Review Uncle Vito's Pizzeria - San Francisco

Tim
It’s a decent pizza but the crust is a little soft and not not crispy like some would prefer. We have the Greek pizza which was very salty overall but that might be normal for that style of pizza. They seem to have a big rush around the normal eating times but people still line up and wait it out. Over all the place was full of energy in the visible kitchen, but it’s not loud. Some interesting art on the walls too.

This is a cute little Italian pizzeria. The service was quick and excellent. The Mountain pizza was pretty good, just a tad undercooked and the peppers and onions could have been done a little more. The flavor was fantastic though. It’s also right on the cable car line for easy transportation access. Also close to Chinatown.

Superb pizza, best i had in my 23 day roadtrip through California. I had the Red Eye, really good taste and dough. My daughter loved the pasta. They serve Heineken beer, which is also good beer. No dessert, was stuffed. Recomended pizzaria!

Food was plentiful and delicious. Service was great. We had Lasagna, Fettuccine Siena, Spaghetti Marinara, side salads, Garlic bread and Hawaiian pizza. You get the most bang for your buck with the lasagna as it comes with salad and garlic bread. Everything was delicious!!! Thanks for a great night.

Quaint and cosy Italian restaurant. The ingredients of the pizza was fresh, but the crust wasn't very crispy. The salad and fried ravioli were delicious

We were glad we found this place near our hotel! We found it to be delicious and good value for money, especially the amount of food they give you! Just be ready to queue as the place is a bit small and popular. We waited 20 mins for a table for 2 and the wait was worth it.

5/18/22...First time visit. Had delivery to hotel which was FREE! Spaghetti with meat sauce was very good. The fries were ok, but would be better hot as they had cooled because of being delivered. The side salad was very big and good. The fettuccine with pesto, chicken and sun dried tomatoes was good. All in all a good find. Worth the visit.

Ordered a to go, one topping 10 inch pepper pizza with ranch in the side. Order was ready right on time and tasted fresh even after walking back to my hotel. Definitely a little heavier than a bigger chain, but it adds to the flavor. Definitely better sharing than eating alone.
neesh
highly highly recommend the pizza! the spaghetti and meatballs leave a little to be desired, as I can make better spaghetti at home but their pizza deserves 5 stars!!
Allison Vennerberg
Solid neighborhood joint. High-quality ingredients and super friendly employees. Takeout orders are ready quickly.

Last night we shared a medium pizza. Most delicious pizza we have eaten. Had to wait 30 minutes for a table but well worth the wait. Re visited this evening and the pizza didn’t top notch again.
Gillian Courtney
Review from my mom: hot, good, here. We tried this place because it was free delivery to the hotel and for sure it’s not the best pizza in the world but it was very solid. We also had the fried ravioli which were crispy and cheesy and delicious. Cesar salad, fried ravioli, and large mountain pizza were enough to feed our family of 5 and we were very happy. Safe for peanut allergy!

Got the fettuccine pesto for takeout and was delighted to find the complimentary garlic bread. There's definitely enough pasta for two (unless you are bulking) and warning the sauce will splash everywhere. I wished I had ordered some protein along with the pasta, otherwise rich and creamy piping hot goodness.

Great Place in San Francisco to taste the Italian Flavor! My family and I enjoyed the Pizza and the wine! Definitely we recommend it!

Giving 10 stars for the fettuccini pesto! It was creamy and delicious. Pizza was okay. It’s kind of a busy place. There are couple of seating options downstairs and I think they have seating upstairs as well. Portion size match the price. Pasta was enough for 2 people.

The pizzas on the menu didn't really appeal to us but their make your own option was easy and the pizza was great . The fried ravioli was awesome!

Great pizza

Three of us ate on a Weds evening. Place was good and busy, waited a while to be served, but it was really worth it. Good service, great tasting pizza.

Had the 16" calzone between two of us and our son had the pepperoni pizza. It was lovely would go back.

This is a proper pizza joint in the vicinity of Union Square which has been serving great meals to locals and visitors for a good while.

While the decor isn't anything special or memorable and the restaurant is a bit small (sometimes there's a bit of a wait at the door while they clear the tables), the service is efficient and quick. Had The Hawaiian pizza and was very impressed with their dough - very tasty and there's lots of cheese that goes on top of it!

Would definitely recommend this place if you're near Union Square and starving for good pizza!

Puts profit before customers.
I went there for dinner. When a small table opened up, the waiter wanted to give the table to a party of three that had arrived after me. When I pointed out that I had been waiting longer than the other party, he told me that he was just following orders. Apparently, management is more concerned about their profit than their customers.

Great pizza and friendly service. This is what I knew about Uncle Vito's Pizzeria. In near of Union Square a place, which is one of the best in San Francisco, who makes pizza.
Steve Holland
Long wait but so worth it! Mountain and Cheese pizzas of particular note. Waitstaff super busy but nice. Fun to watch. Highly recommended!!!!
Rob
The place was busy so we thought that was a good sign. But no such luck! Soggy pizza, watery, flavorless spaghetti with meatballs. Service was weak and not very attentive. We would not go back.
Dharit Gandhi
A very small place but totally worth it!! Highly recommend their cheese ravioli pesto.. One of the best I have had so far!! The pizzas are amazing too!! The wait will be totally worth it!!
Daniella Cadena
Awesome little place, little because the line to eat was big! but it's totally worth it. Pizza Tia Mia was beyond my expectation... Yumm yumm yumm!
Chris McPherson
Stayed at Marriot right down the street I could see Vito's from my window. Most of the reason I chose to eat there. I was surprised by the line so I figured I made a good choice. Food was good but place is really small if your Trying to eat there which most people out of town will want to do. Pizza was better than average that's why I gave it a 4, won't recommend if your looking for a sit down restaurant environment.

We had the pasta special of the day and the Greek pizza. WOW. First trip to San Francisco and our taste buds were blown away! Fantastic. So tasty and flavourful. Another table had a salad that looked huge, full of ingredients and amazing and a cheese pizza, this made me want to go back to the days of "just cheese" pizza when I was a kid because it also looked delicious!!
Carrleigh Ray
YES PLEASE!!! We had the fettuccine alfredo and a small pepperoni pizza. The sauce on the pizza was wonderful and it was amazing how saucy the fettuccine was. But we're exceptional. I don't think I would be out of my right mind to go back two nights in a row.

First time in san francisco and we just wanted to go out for pizza and seen the rating on this. It was a Saturday around 7 and it was packed inside they were very very busy line up out the door but we decided to stay and glad we did. It was delicious. I had the calzone amazing and my husband had the mountain pizza also amazing. I highly recommend this place for pizza but be prepared to wait

The pizza was fine.. On the day the service was slow ... Worthy of a return visit.
RB
Tasty little Italian haunt. Love it, as it reminds me of the old Italian Family pizza joint. Motif is sparse but food is great. Highly suggest for a quick Pizza or Pasta special. You can't go wrong!
Kendra Conroy
Very good!! Well worth the walk up the hill from Union Square. Super friendly service.. The Pesto pizza and the garlic bread with cheese was magnifico!! And even better because it was the cheapest meal so far!

I'm definitely a fan of Uncle Vito's Pizza and I would return but the reason that I gave four instead of five stars is because from the service to the food, I've had better somewhere else, but that doesn't mean that it still wasn't good. When we arrived to eat it was crowded but we didn't have to wait too long. The garlic bread seems to be frequently talked about in the reviews for this place, plus one of my favorite foods is garlic bread so I had to try it. From what I remember, the portion wasn't to big and the bread was covered in garlic, butter and herbs, but it at the same time wasn't anything special and like I'm going to say about everything, I've had better garlic bread at other places. I got a personal pizza and it was good, nothing that unique but the thickness was good, the cheese was good, and if I was in the area and in the mood for pizza I would get it again. The service was fine, not memorable, from what I remember the entire experience once we sat down was pretty quick.

Best calzone I've ever had... Period

My "goto" place on Nob Hill. I travel to SF a lot and often stay on Nob Hill. I look forward to Uncle Vito's because it is just plain good. Scratch that...great. Unassuming, tasty pasta (I love artichokes), and really good pizza. Tremendous value for the heart of San Francisco.

UPDATE: Three years later and I still make a point to come here when I'm in town. Don't expect the Ritz, just good food in a quaint mom and pop pizza joint.

Best little Italian dive! The pizza is amazing and I had the eggplant parmisan which was delicious!
Wretchdz
Bloody rude.. Uncle Vito is rude. You ask for no onion and receive such uncalled for animosity that you feel obliged to leave?
Speednut
Good pizza and salads. Had the Hawaiian pizza which was very good with nice crust and a good amount of toppings. Not greasy at all. The Greek salad was good as well with good toppings and dressing. Good place close to Nob Hill hotels.
Nikki
Right size, good price. Got a personal (8") pizza. Greasy (in a good way) w/super stringy cheese. Not the best, but hit the spot anyway.
TJB
Tried it because of delivery service and late arrival to hotel! Used again because food was great! Picky kids and they loved the pesto cheese ravioli and calzone! Hamburger got great reviews from hubby and the side salad was huge-ask for extra dressing!
Steve
Great pizza! What a nice end to a hellacious day of travel to get a speedy delivery to the St Francis. THANKS!!
Kwai Lam
Exceptional pizza. Very fresh, good sauce and cheese and crisp crust. Nice service.

Piping hot. I really enjoyed Uncle Vito's during my trip to SF. It was a block from my hotel and they were open when I was searching late one night. I ordered a small "Mountain" minus onions and enjoyed a few Sierra Nevada drafts. I was sat upstairs which was cozy. The pizza came out quickly and was so hot, I had to let it cool off. Total bill was $23 which is hard to beat in downtown SF. I will definitely return next time I stay in Union Square.

We stayed in San Francisco for a long weekend. This place was within walking distance of our hotel. Lucky us! Food is great. We ate here twice. Sandwiches, lasagna, and spaghetti - all great. Place is small and you need a bit of patience. Reasonable food prices too. Recommended.
David Kersey
DC man's humble opinion. The pizza is very good. I had the mountain and enjoyed it very much. I dont want to compare it to any other type of pizza. However, It's more hand-thrown like NY than Chicago style. Nice doughy edge and the sauce was good but not to much.

If your traveling and need a pie....this is your place, you won't be disappointed. I say the traveling part because the locals know its great.
Aaron Ziegler
One of the best pizzas I've eaten. FRESH Ingredients, and all from scratch. Highly recommended.

Came in from out of town and ended up at uncle Vito's. very authentic Italian and great food.
Kurt
Terrible. Three of us for dinner last night. We ordered:

* Cheese Ravioli Pesto - the ravioli was average, at best, but the entire plate was completely smothered in an excess of pesto cream. There was probably more sauce, by volume, than ravioli.
* The Mountain 10" Pizza - came out fresh and hot, but there was so much grease the crust was soggy and mushy. It's your basic combo pizza and tasted fine for what it was; nothing fancy or adventurous.
* Greek Salad - okay - large, but too many toppings.
* Side of meatballs - truly awful. Almost no flavor, the texture and consistency was incredibly weak. Some of the worst meatballs I've ever had anywhere. Too bad, because the meat sauce on them was actually pretty tasty.

Service was okay, prices were decent, food sucked, overall.

Great pizza and service!!!. The pizza was amazing!!! And the service was great, friendly staff! Would definitely recommend if you're looking for good pizza!

I really cannot comment on the pizza. With that being said though, while visiting San Fran the wife and I after a long day were in the mood for some reasonable Italian food and it just so happened that Vito's delivered to our hotel. I would definitely give them an A+ for convenience. About 40 minutes after placing the order food was at the doorstep. I ordered the fettuccini alfredo with Italian sausage and the wife the chicken sandwich with Swiss and fries. The Alfredo, I've tasted better out of a jar. The past was al dente which was good but for an Italian joint even pre made pasta you'd expect it al dente. Anyway, the sauce was watery if there was parm or romano I couldn't tell and well the sausage was just flat out bland. The wife's chicken tasted just so so according to her and was really dry. As far as the rest of their menu I really have no idea. I however would not recommend this place unless your willing to settle for less than mediocre. Total cost $26.

Left my heart at Uncle Vito's. Been going to Uncle Vito's ever since it was recommended to be by the Fairmont Hotel. So my wife was a little tired one night and I went out on the cable car to bring back dinner. Uncle Vito's is not that elegant. But food is excellent. As a Chicago boy who loves pizza, their pizza was the best. Imagine coming back to the hotel via. the cable car with a couple of bags of food. What a great experience. My last night in SF took my wife to Uncle Vito's. Go sit upstairs with a view of the cable cars. Come on, the food, the music, the cable cars...Wish I could go back right now. You have to go and eat at the little mom and pop restaurants in any city you visit and Uncle Vitos is one of them.
Christopher Vera
Good neighborhood pizza joint! Tried the Mountain pizza and antipasto salad. Both were very good but no need to drive across town for it.
Mark Anthony B Hobbs
Very good pizza and excellent service. Good for a spontaneous casual outing.
Kevin Goolsby
Ok pizza, bad service. We went to Uncle Vito's based on the reviews from urban spoon but were disappointed from the start. Our server could have cared less about us or his service for us. He only showed up twice during our dinner. Failed to ask at the delivery of our food if I needed a drink (which I did). And then had to be flagged down to get the check. Needless to say We will not be returning on any future trips to San Francisco.
Donna Woleben
We have been there twice already. We ate dinner there last night and lunch today. We enjoyed the food both times. The guys really work fast and hard to get you in and serve you.
David Cipriano
Very busy, popular place. Location is small but the wait was well worth it! Pasta and pizza were great and fresh. If you are impatient, this may not be the place for you but you will be missing out on some good food.

Nice Finish. We had been in San Francisco on vacation, and we went to Uncle Vito's on our last night there, wish I had gone there sooner. Small place, and a little dark, but I was impressed. My starter salad was big enough for a meal! Honestly for the amount of food that we got, this was our best deal in San Francisco. I recommend it to anyone for good cheap eats.
Jeff Saxe
Whole family enjoyed the pizza and spaghetti with meatballs. And the order was cooked as we requested and packed perfectly to take to the hotel room. Well done, Vito!

Intensely zesty.

-----25 Apr, 2015-----

Mountain is best eaten in. The mountain fresh veg made the crust soggy last time I brought it back to my hotel.

-----17 Mar, 2010-----

Best Slice Ever. This is currently my absolute fav pizza in the entire country right now. The plain cheese or pepperoni were consistently outstanding. Zippy sauce, creamy cheese and amazingly yummy dough. Serious flavor in the dough. The veg pizza got too soggy on the trip back to my hotel so I stuck with the plain or single ingredient pies after that.
Professor Awesome
Uncle Vito's: Mangia baby!. Vito's is a great pizzeria. The crust is just right: not too thin, not too doughy or thick. The 16" large is way bigger than 16"! They delivered 10 min earlier than promised. The toppings and cheese were awesome. Price is very reasonable ($20 for a large 3-topping is a great buy for what you get). Highly recommended!
Randi
Yo Vito!!!. Greek Salad was typical, but the feta was fresh and fluffy. Pizza dough and sauce was just right. The pepperoni was spicy. Great for late night chow hounds.
Nani
Delicioso!

Great pizza dough. Man, I'd come back just for that. We just happened to stop here because we were near it and hungry..... And boy were we glad we did. Excellent pizza.
Marvin
Had a personal pizza today and it was good. I can't say it was the best pizza I've ever had but it was one of the better ones I've had. I would definitely go back.
Chip Brown
Quite tasty.

Great little italian restaurant with excellent pizza/pasta dishes and nice wine. Busy place to eat in but worth the wait. Total bill for 1 starter, 2 small pizzas + bottle of house wine came to $40. Bargain.
Carlos Torres
Best Pizza and pasta in Nob Hill. Try the house wine too.
Thomas Stovicek
Yum!. I have a very excellent pizza : )

Our Sunday was a could've, should've day. First we slept in a bit later than we should've, second we could've gotten bagels for breakfast the night before. We strolled down to Union Square to catch a bus to the Fisherman's Wharf where we going to rent bik
