Review Chez Maman - San Francisco

Had an awesome time at this restaurant in a sweet SF neighborhood with killer views! The French onion soup was next-level, and those mussels? So good. Would definitely visit next time I’m in the city.

Cute cafe in Potrero hill with outdoor seating and an assortment of French dining options. We went for lunch and got a salmon panini and a chicken burger. The garlic aioli with the burger was divine. The salmon panini was decently flavored although I think there were way too many capers. Service was quick, but also had the pace of a typical French cafe (time to chat/have conversation).

Great restaurant, with friendly service. We were seated outside and it was very nice. My husband and I ordered the half roasted organic chicken and the hachis parmentier. The hachis parmentier was very delicious, the beef was very juicy, and the potatoes with crispy cheese on top was perfect. The chicken my husband had was also very delicious. They were both very generous portions and overall we were very satisfied with our dining experience.

I have a group of former colleagues that I consider a 2nd family and we try to go out and celebrate birthdays and special events together when we can. Chez Maman is always our go-to place and for good reason. The whole area is residential so parking isn't bad at all until you get later into the evening. It's super easy to get to right off Hwy 280. We've literally never had a bad meal or bad service there. The staff are always sincere and super nice. They don't take reservations which is the only thing I can complain about, but that's it. I love this place and the memories I've made there with my work fam will always be priceless to me.

Had a wonderful dinner and service was great! We had a party of 6 and everyone had a wonderful time. Food was delicious, hot and came out timely. Would definitely eat here again.

A wonderful restaurant. Every time we go back it is always incredible. The staff friendly with a European vibe. The food delicious. The roasted chicken with a lemony gravy on the mashed potatoes is like heaven. Great wine, beautiful view of downtown SF followed by a crème brûlée. That’s life.

Amazingly delicious!!! We want you on the Peninsula. Please!!!! A fantastic French neighborhood diner. The food reminds us of dining in the French countryside. We stared with a warm goat cheese salad; mildly peppery and the subtle crunchy creaminess of the fried goat cheese. I had the chicken and subbed Brussel sprouts for the mashed potatoes. The chicken was fall apart tender and juicy and the Brussel sprouts were crispy and tender inside. The Apple tart was a puff pastry with chunks of apple; I would have liked razor thin slices of apple but the chunks were more substantial. My molten chocolate cake was very molten and chocolaty. I want to try the mussels and duck next time. There is too much on the menu to try. I wish they also had a cassoulet. Mountain View would be perfect for your next restaurant.

Some of the dishes here standout more than others. I was really looking forward to the escargot appetizers and while the dish looked amazing and loaded with butter with large snails, the individual snails were extremely tiny and cooked down to something you could barely even see. The lamb sausage appetizer comes with a salad and it’s ok. True to it’s word the sausage made of lamb is pretty unique with a little gamely flavor. Didn’t find either of the appetizers above to be worth their value and would definitely skip. For the appetizer, I ordered a veal. The veal was split in to 3 thin flat sheet and covered with a butter sauce and mushrooms/veggies. The sauce was delicious, the veal was ok. Because each sheet was pounded flat, it was a little dry and tougher than I would have liked. Sauce and vegetables were very tasty. The duck confit however was phenomenal. Delicious deep rich flavor and supremely tender meat. This is a must get. To finish for dessert, the gelato was very tasty and reasonably priced. Staff was friendly and service and food came quickly. Overall I would come here again, but pick strategically focusing on the best main courses they offer and skip the appetizers.

To be honest, I think went here almost a decade ago but can't remember so we went back! It was quite worth the trip. This is a charming little French bistro that has a conventional bistro fare done exceptionally well. started with the French onion soup and it may have been the best I've had, right up there with Absinthe. It alone can merit this 4-star rating: incredible flavor, could have eaten a pots worth. Also shared the warm goat cheese salad with arugula, cipollini onions, balsamic vinaigrette, it was SO-so, good but not great. For my main, I had their legendary burger. It was very good but not as epic as I'd hoped. had it with goat cheese and bacon and it didn't quite come together as well as hoped. Service was terrific, welcoming and efficient. Would go back here to try some more of the menu items, it was a good experience overall. Pro tip: Go here early during the week, otherwise the lines are long. We waited for 30 mins and got there around 8pm on a Wed. July 2015.

Wow, what a fantastic brunch spot. There is outdoor seating which has skyline views and the service is excellent. The Croque madame with salmon tasted incredible! I would definitely come here for some good quality food at a reasonable price.

This is our neighborhood French bistro. The food is S tier (aka very good) and good value for your $. It is always busy (understandably so), outdoor seating makes it very akin to Parisian vibe but you have a gorgeous view of SF instead. Always busy so expect to wait if you go during busy hours. I’ve tried pretty much everything in their menu as I like to take out-of-towners here. I love their mussels, steak, Camembert, chicken… just go try anything you won’t be disappointed.

Visited Chez Maman for a friend's birthday last weekend. I thought the food was fantastic! Requested my steak medium, and it was perfectly done. The food came out hot, and all the dipping sauces were delicious. The crème brûlée was incredible, probably the best I've ever had. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I would absolutely come back to this restaurant!

Cozy neighborhood french restaurant with some of the best french onion soup I've had. Definitely recommend the soups, tartare, and duck. The wait can be a bit long at times, but it's definitely worth it. The pork chop was my main dish, it had a delicious rich flavor without being too heavy.

I’d like to start off by saying that I love the outdoor seating! The heaters kept us very warm while we enjoyed our food. It’s been many years since I’ve had escargot or mussels, so they really hit the spot. I couldn’t choose just one dessert, so I ordered three and they were all incredible! In addition to our waiter, the staff was very welcoming. Different members of the staff would check in on us, which made the entire experience all the better.

Tried it over the years and very consistent..friendly service. Great food. The west location is slight better but more busy. Love the brussel sprouts, burger, chicken. You feel good and upbeat after a meal here

This is now our go-to spot to satisfy all of our sudden crave for authentic traditional French food. Needless to say, the foods were so good that they bring back vivid memories of our travels in France. The service was excellent, as the staff were very attentive. It's not one of those superficial and overly flamboyant SF establishment that will break your wallet. Rather it's a down-to-earth neighborhood bistro that people can go back again and again. We love it and we are certain that you will too.
