This is the best local butcher in San Diego. Period. They are truly farm to table. Plus they make great sandwiches everyday to order from their own meats. And yes you can get a beer with that as well if you're eating on the patio. I just got true Wagyu beef (pictured below) with an A9 rating. I've never seen that sold directly to the public outside of Japan. For all of your meaty needs, go see them!

I wish I had a bigger stomach! These sandwiches were worth the drive. We are sampling their homemade hot sausages tonight. Next time we visit, we'll try the steak sandwich.

A buddy and I went to sample some of the meats and sausages at Heart & Trotter after I happened upon their advertisement stating they were cooking outdoors Sundays from 12-3 pm. A very nice, clean & well run shop with one of the nicest selections of specialty meats, sandwiches, sausage, bone broths, ect. One of the locals suggested we sample the Pastrami, so we ordered a 1/4 lb of thinly sliced with a side of stone-ground mustard. I'm telling you, it was like butter; melted in your mouth! And the sausages were exceptional in every way (Kudos to the chef for how flavorful her sauces were too.) They had an excellent selection of some local beers that helped to make the visit all the more memorable! This is a place you really, really want to check out for yourself; you'll be glad you did!

We love this place! Their meat is phenomenal, their service is fantastic, and their butchers are so knowledgeable about the product itself. They could tell you exactly how it should be prepared or what cuts are best for what recipes. They even offer classes! I recommend across the board to anyone looking for higher quality meat than what you find in a grocery store. This is the place to go. We will definitely be back again and again!

We stopped on for a burger on a Saturday and were very impressed. The staff was super friendly. They have a large variety of meats, weigh they state are sustainable and hormone free. We were just checking it out, but have a few cuts we will come back for. Oh, and the burner was delicious!

Okay.. let me set the record straight. No, H&T is not cheap. However, their quality is second to none here in SD. Perhaps folks need to reexamine what is "expensive" with respect to meat.. I was in there the other day and grabbed a giant bone out pork chop that was plenty for my wife and I for diner and it cost $11.50. May I also add that it was the most beautiful piece of pork I have ever purchased from a butcher! Cooked in a cast iron with butter = INCREDIBLE!! Next level stuff, the fat was sublime. $11.50 divided by 2 is cheap!! Cant get an extra value meal for 2 people for what it cost us to have a world class cut of meat!! So to everyone I've heard complain about their prices, check yourself! And to the dude who wants to see more selection of hamburger meat and hot dogs and has the balls to tell these dudes to "step there game up" I say, why don't you step your game up bro..

Great place with great service. Has good selection of meats for grilling and smoking. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. I always call ahead to verify if they have the meat I'm looking for in stock. If they don't currently have the meat, they have provided the date that it will be back in stock every time. Small butcher that provides to a large area, so recommend calling ahead. Best butcher around by far.

An amazing butcher, very knowledgeable. The quality of meat carried is amazing. Awesome unique selection of sausage. The best part about H&T is the sandwiches and burgers. In my humble opinion they are the best sandwiches in San Diego.

They offer great meats and cuts, just be sure to plan and call ahead a couple days so they can set it aside for you. I roasted a chicken from here and came out better than any other I'd done. Did a blind taste test of their tri tip against one from Smart & Final at a party of about 25 people. The H&T meat was preferred by almost 90 percent of the guests. The staff are happy folks who enjoy their work.

I have tried a few of their offerings. Got the ground beef last night. It was worlds different from "grass fed" meat you get at vons. The flavor is enough that you don't even need a ton of burger toppings or seasoning. It has plenty of great flavor on its own. I will be back!

This place has some amazing tasting meat from pasture-raised animals butchered by passionate people. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly and everything we've had here is delicious. I have dreamed of a place like this. No more confusing Whole Foods meat for me! I feel confident that I'm getting quality stuff and not contributing to unsustainable practices and animal abuse. Score.

I just had the best roasted chicken. For the quality and the size (the bird was huge) I'd say it was pretty fairly priced. Took some the ground beef, too... I'm just going to continue working down the list of awesome options they have, hopefully leaving pictures of deliciousness along the way. The dedication to local and proper options for those of us who choose to indulge in meat but don't want the chemicals is truly awesome. So happy to have these guys in the neighborhood.

Bought 5 slices of roast beef for about $1 a slice. Bought one sausage and it was almost $4. The roast beef was the nastiest blandest roast beef I've ever tasted, I threw it away. I wish I had a dog I could of given it too, it really hurt me to throw away food, but it was truly awful. The sausage was tasty but I felt it was a bit expensive, I would rather buy from sprouts, or S & M sausage. Great idea, but the quality was definitely not worth the price. So disappointed

If only I lived in San Diego I would be buying from here at least twice a week. The gentleman that helped was very friendly and helpful sorry can't remember his name. The pork bacon was very good, I wish the beef bacon was available. I will be coming back next time I am in town!

I was so pumped when H&T moved into my neighborhood and they have not disappointed me one time. Everyone that works here is a gem, and I love walking in and chatting with James, Trey, David and, head chef, Lhasa. They bring meat back to the basics. Their sausage is delicious, and where else can you ask for a specific cut off meat and they cut it off right in front of you? It doesn't get more fresh than that. Thank you for providing a place to purchase meat that I can trust.

I have been to this shop multiple times and just finished my first of (hopefully) many classes at the shop. These guys are doing things right. They are sourcing local, hormone-free, humanely raised and slaughtered animals. They care about the process. If you are a Vegan or Vegetarian, I respect your decision to not eat meat; but please respect mine to support a local small business doing things the RIGHT way.
