Review Hoai Hue Vietnamese Restaurant - San Diego

It’s been decades since I’ve been here and they are still standing so you know they’re good! Came here for lunch and got what they are known for, a bowl of Bún Bò Huế and added on Bánh bèo. If you’re craving food from the central region of Vietnam, you can always count on this place. Parking is limited. They have a structure but it’s tight with a small entrance/exit and cars can be backed up into the road going in/out. I would park on the street on Menlo.

Nice restaurant to get good Bun Bo Hue or Mi Quang. My kids really like the BANH BEO there too. Always able to find open table. Parking is on the side and front of the restaurant. Price is decent. Friendly customer service.

So I drove an hour to try this place cause a friend recommended the bun Bo hue (which is my favorite soup of all time.) even though it was 90° today I still drove to try it. And it did NOT disappoint!!!! I order the bun Bo hue and the bun rieu. I needed to see if it was good…. I loved both dish! The had the blood cubes in there! That is how you know it’s authentic! The bun Bo hue was not spicy but they have the chili oil on the table for you to add it. Which I much rather prefer instead of it coming out too spicy! I am definitely coming back here!

Surprisingly great food. We are looking for Hue traditional food, luckily found Hoài Huế by Google maps. We ordered Bánh bèo and bánh bột lọc for appetizers, then Bún bò huế, and Mì quảng. All the food are amazing, strongly recommend to everyone who wants the excellent Huế food.

This is the best central Vietnamese restaurant in Southern California. Hands down. If you were in Hue or Da Nang in Vietnam, you'd have to go to 5 or 6 restaurants to find all the food prepared here. Not only is the selection amazing, the food itself is amazing and authentic. I remember when Hoai Hue was take away only and just down the street in a much smaller location. They moved here in 2009 or 2010. I've been a customer the whole time. I make it a point to eat here whenever I can and can't recommend it enough. Banh beo, mi quang, bun bo, or whatever you get, it'll be amazing.

If you're looking for exotic Vietnamese food, this is the place! They offer variety of specialties from the middle of vietnam that you can hardly find in the city with reasonable price. Parking can be troublesome though.

The gold standard for mi quang! Mi quang is a noodle dish from central Vietnam with an extraordinary variety of textures, flavors, smells etc, as it is part soup and part salad. Think flat turmeric noodles + seafood/pork rib broth with hints of coconut + shrimp/pork belly/toasted nuts, shrimp crackers together with a mountain of fresh vegetables and salad. It is truly a sensual feast

We ordered to go. Bún bò Huế. Bánh bèo. Everything was still very good after almost 5-hour of driving home. We ate the bún bò Huế before I had the chance to take picture.

I tried Special Bun Bo Hue. The broth was favorful but a little bit salty. Full of topping, big vegetable dish, and reasonable price.

If you want a different type of Vietnamese food that tastes delicious and is different from what is typically offered everywhere, go here! One of our favorite places to eat in San Diego.

Food was great. This is my go to for Hue food. I would pass on the rice dishes.

We came here a couple of weeks ago for my birthday. This place is a little tucked away in a strip mall with good parking. About 2/3 of the tables were full at 6pm on a Saturday and the staff was super nice and attentive. The food was amazing. Banh beo chen is one of my favorites and it's not as common aside from a few places in SD. This dish was the main reason we came here and I wasn't disappointed. We also ordered banh bot loc which were delicious. The bun thit nuong was also very good (pork patties nicely seasoned) with the nuoc cham on the sweeter side, and lots of fresh toppings. The mi quang was also delicious - I had never had this particular item before but will order again. It was loaded with chicken, shrimp, and noodles in a savory chicken egg broth and was extremely good. Prices were very reasonable. Two mains and two appetizers was a large meal for two people and around $17 per person. Would absolutely recommend stopping by and we'll be back soon to try more of their menu.

Hands down this place has the best bun bo hue in San Diego. The broth is flavorful and satisfying. The meatballs and shrimp paste are delicious. I have not dined in at this restaurant since the pandemic. I usually order takeout and the service has been quick. If you're adventurous and want to try a Vietnamese dish that is not pho, give this place a try.
