Review Provisional Kitchen, Cafe, And Mercantile - San Diego

Had a very nice experience at the restaurant. The service was exceptional and very friendly. They were able to get us, a party of three in, and we're very nice about showing up without a reservation. While we were there, it was very busy and people seem to enjoy themselves. Next to lots of other really great places to see!

This is a good place to stop at for more higher end experience. Service is a tad lacking. We only saw our waiter twice. Food is great. However, portions are smaller then norm. Great atmosphere and plenty of seating. Kid and pet friendly. This is a place you go to when you want more of a relaxed dinner.

Super cool looking resto that had a happy hour special so we got some drinks and a margarita pizza. Drinks were good. Pizza was ok, I’d try something else the next time I’m back. They had a live performer come in just as we were about to leave and that was special. Really enjoyed the live singing which is unique about this spot in Gaslamp Quarters.

Fantastic spot in the heart of the Gaslamp on 5th between island and J in The Pendry Hotel. Great food, friendly/quick service and really really good people watching if you’re sitting outside. Fun place to grab a bite of in downtown San Diego.

This place by far is one of the best breakfast spots in Downtown! Service was just amazing, the food and selection was fantastic. Drinks are for sure a must.

BRUNCH TASTING MENU!!!! Happened to notice this at the top of the menu and decided to try. Incredible, unique savory and sweet dishes that were perfectly portioned and we could barely finish the final dish. Menu changes every weekend and will definitely be back to try more. Service was exceptional. Was sat outside and it was pleasant with good people watching. Have been to Provisional for brunch multiple times throughout the years and it always delivers. Highly recommend.

Delicious weekend brunch. Menu has plenty of offerings from fruit and yogurt to cheeseburger. We sat outside and “People watched” from the sidewalk. The breakfast pizza was delicious and the cheese wasn’t overwhelming which was nice. The Cesar salad dressing tasted authentic and yummy. Fries were great! The dessert menu looked amazing but we were stuffed. Our server Cesar was exceptional and super friendly. Great ambiance for girl’s brunch, family or couples.

The wife and I were in San Diego w/her parents and they put us in charge of brunch the next day, so I went online and found this spot. It looked very nice inside and had good ratings, so that's where we went. It is part of a hotel, and as we walked up, we were greeted by the host and sat right away. For drinks I had a margarita and the wife and mother in law had mimosas. Both were good. The waiter initially forgot about my drink, but after I reminded him, he brought it over and said it was on the house, which was nice. We all ordered breakfast...the father in law had the pendry breakfast, which he enjoyed. The mother in law created her own omelet which she also enjoyed. The wife had the provisional egg sandwich. She liked it and said it was very crispy. She also ordered a side of pesto aioli breakfast potatoes, which she thought was ok, I thought they were pretty good, but I wouldn't eat a lot of it. I also had the provisional egg sandwich w/o the avocado. I also enjoyed the sandwich. We all enjoyed this spot, and next time we're in the area, we will definitely go back and try other things. Service was also good.

I normally avoid hotel restaurants as they often seem to be lacking. PK is exceptional. The $22 breakfast sandwich is worth it! A truly farm fresh egg fried to perfection placed on smashed avocado 🥑 sour bread toast. Topped with Gruyère and bacon 🥓. Delicious!

The food tasted as good as it looks. Service was quick, server was super nice and took great care of me. Atmosphere during dinner time was calming and not too loud. The portions were a little on the smaller side for the main course but the Wagyu definitely hit the spot, cooked perfectly and the espresso on it made it taste amazing. The roasted carrots were fantastic as well.

Visited for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the calm atmosphere inside compared to the hectic atmosphere on the street. The food was good and the drinks were great. The waiter isn't well aware of the menu, they could use a training on their menu to their staff. Otherwise a great place, would definitely recommend it

Chef Vicent is amazing. Wonderful restaurant with a creative menu. The staff is friendly and the food is exceptional. We attended a dinner for Stags' Leap Winery. Every dish was perfectly paired with the wines. The next night we hosted a cocktail reception at Provisional Kitchen. First class! Highly recommended.

Most amazing food ever! I had the vegan avocado toast with a side of pesto potatoes. The pickled vegetables had the right amount of acid. My husband ordered the carnitas hash with the egg fried over hard instead of poached! Service was also amazing.

Excellent service! The raw oysters were fresh and sweet! All the other dishes had good presentation and tasted yummy! The desserts were exceptional! They were not overpoweringly sweet like most restaurants. My favorite was the mint chocolate macaron and rice pudding.

Stayed at the pendry for 4 days and ate downstairs at provisional a couple times. Good vibe, food, and drinks. Great service, esp Nam for helping us girls with long nails opening those little Tabasco bottles.

Had breakfast on the patio and was bowled over by the service and quality of the food. The cacio e pepe toast was simply amazing. So unique and delicious with softly scrambled eggs, lots of black pepper and fresh parmesan. If you like the pasta by the same name, you must try this dish. Service was outstanding. Can't wait to come back and check out the dinner menu.

Great food in a beautiful setting. I was staying at the Pendry which is attached to this restaurant. Came for breakfast and had the Chilaquiles. They were super delicious. The salsa had a nice heat to it... Maybe spicy for some but perfect for me. Service and hostess were great too. Overall a good experience and definitely want to come back to try lunch and dinner.

I decided Provisional at The Pendry Hotel for my pre-theater bite last evening. One of six restaurants and bars, Provisional Kitchen, Café & Mercantile is probably what you’d call the hotel restaurant since it is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. It is beautifully decorated and sunlit, sort of Southern elegance and California modern with huge chandeliers and marble top tables and long tuffted velvet jewel toned banquette. Rachel my server was so wonderful and kept me watered and fed and entertained. She started me with a delicious amuse, peanut butter cracker with a mushroom reduction and a salmon roulade. The perfect bite. I started with celeriac bisque with seasonal crab, pine nuts, and citrus béarnaise, a great twist on cream of celery soup. I ordered one pour of the Mouton Noir 'OPP' 2014 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Oregon, a great robust Pinot. Then I was on to the yummy Hudson Valley foie gras with caramelized crispy buckwheat, local herbs and sliced kumquat. A slam dunk. I also had a dessert which turned out to be torn chunks of sponge cake on top of dollops of chocolate hazelnut creme, Dulcey blond chocolate cream, lemon cream all with scattered caramelized hazelnuts. I nearly licked the bowl.

Best matcha pancakes I’ve ever had. And Kevin is the best server - so kind, cheerful, and attentive!

Fabulous food, atmosphere, and impeccable service from Collin and the rest of the staff!!

Fabulous 100-day dry-aged tomahawk ribeye. $69 was a steal. You’d pay $300+ for this same meal in Manhattan. Great service, too.

I LOVE this place!! The food, the staff, the atmosphere. It was so awesome that I ate there 3 times in 2 days.

Discovered this gem of a restaurant our last evening in San Diego. Great atmosphere, lively yet pleasant ambience. Conversation actually possible and thankfully no wall to wall TVs. The food was exceptional.. Sea bass was perfect as was the skirt steak. Deconstructed Key lime pie was perfect dessert. Great wine list. This restaurant will be number one stop on next trip to San Diego.
