Review The Blind Burro - San Diego

Jessica Noyes
Stopped in for a bite at The Blind Burro with family, our first time there. The setting was fun and lively with plenty of bar seating and a few TVs, making it a great spot to watch any game. Also, the service was wonderful, our waitress was on top of everything. As for the food and drinks, the best thing we ate was the cheese crisp appetizer (not pictured here) and a family side of street corn, while our short rib tacos and cup of pozole soup were just okay. The food was rather salty and our drinks were not that flavorful, nor strong. Overall, the menu had some great selections, but the quality just didn’t quite match up to the price.

Nachos were too thick and were quite hard to chew (be careful not to bite on it too quick). The powerbowl had an interesting taste, but I appreciate the big serving. There weren't a lot of customers when we were there, but it took a while to get our orders and receipts.

Located on the corner of J st. & 7th Ave. near Petco Park. We've been coming to "The Blind Burro" for many years now because it never disappoints. Today, I had their 'Burro-ito Barbacoa' which is slow braised beef burrito (a bit spicy) accompanied with a 'Strawberry Margarita'. My husband had their 'Carne Asada Chimichanga' which is a deep fried steak burrito. Both are pretty big in size and tasted delicious with fresh ingredients... We liked the Chimichanga a lot. Shout out to our server 'Alyssa' who was very attentive and did not rush us at all. The restaurant is always clean and organized with outside seating and plenty of TVs throughout so we enjoy watching sports here...the restrooms are also clean every time we've visited. It's always a great time here, which is why we return.

I had their nachos which were quite yummy and plenty for two. More traditional Mexican ingredients made it unique. I was there after a game let out, so it was very loud and busy, The crowd was lively and a bit claustrophobic. The only reason I gave the atmosphere a 3. But expect it to be different at other times or under other circumstances. Do very much recommend giving them.

Great place to take the kids. We had a group of 10, they were able to seat us right away during comic-con week. Luck or Great service. Either way, they were great 👍

Great service, good food, and fresh tortilla chips were very yummy . Pictured food and drink~40$, so the pricing is meh.

Came on a Monday during Happy Hour where they have $4.50 beers, and about 5 items under $11 each. We went with: Fish Taco - came with one, but pretty large and filling Calamari - seasoned really well and nice and crunchy! Came with two dips which we really enjoyed. Queso Crisp - which was like a crispy chip pizza thing with toppings. Pretty interesting take as it was sliced like a pizza! Overall ambiance was pretty fun with lots of TVs playing and very attentive staff.

I definitely recommend the lobster tacos. The salsa and chips were incredible. I ate on those the entire meal! The rice and pinto beans were pretty good as well. The street corn was okay. It was highly recommended but there was a lot going on. Also, you kind of bet on margaritas at places like this but the pineapple margarita was, again, okay. The service was good and the outdoor dining options were amazing. I'd return and try new menu items.

Stopped in during Comic Con to get the Barbie Margarita (watermelon) and Ken shot. They were delicious. Staff was very friendly too, I asked if they had anymore Barbie promo menus because I wanted to hang one in my room and they found one for me to take home! Love them for that

Overall good first experience. The restaurant itself is super cool, and very spacious. Nice menu with a large selection of Mexican favorites. Food was served hot and very fresh, with what seemed to be high quality ingredients. Didn't give give stars because everything was spicy and wish it was optional, because tortillas had an odd flavor and were not as freshly soft as they should be, and because I was hoping for a slightly more authentic Mexican flavor. Outside of that, it was a great time.

This place was great! We were visiting from out of town, just looking for somewhere to eat. I came across this place and it was really good! Their chips and salsa was good & their tacos were good too. Server was very friendly. I’d come back.

A nice local restaurant for a happy hour with a solid Mexican menu. The classic dishes were done well. Hearty serving of stacked nachos. Great flavor on the quesadillas. Come here for a relaxing experience with a laid back ambience. Friendly and efficient service.

Great Mexican fusion spot, recommend salsa flight! Outdoor and indoor seating! They got a cute Barbie theme menu and decor going on right now! Friendly staff!

great spot to sit at the bar watching the world go around while enjoying a killer Jalapeño Margarita and some fish tacos.

The chimichanga is delicious and big enough to share. We also had the street tacos and enchiladas.

Biggest, tastiest quesadilla I've ever had! Waitress was very nice and helped suggest menu items as we were from out of town. Great happy hour deals too.

We just walked in but I would recommend setting up a reservation the place gets very busy and I can tell you why the food was excellent. We sat at the Bar, the service was great and the Bartender were very friendly. I ordered the Seafood Enchiladas and the portion was huge. It came with three generously stuffed enchiladas with shrimp, scallops and a local fish. The sauce was great combo with the slaw they placed on top. The chips were good too, crisp but not greasy. We finished the meal by splitting an order of Charros and those were over the top. I would go again.

This place serves tacos and has a good Tequila selection. I had the surf and turf tacos with street corn on the side. It was delicious. These tacos are filled with lobster and steak. The steak was tender and the lobster was good. The street corn was delicious! I wanted more of it. My girlfriend and I both had a mule which was delicious. We ordered seconds of it it was that good. For dessert, we had churros which are served with cream on the side for dipping. They were fresh and really delicious! I would recommend this place to anybody.

So good! A new menu! We had the carne quesadilla and ceviche both really good. The good quality of food is noticeable. They have good prices downtown for wine ($9), Cadillac margarita ($14) and Coors light on draft ($5). I'm a local and go often. Open seating area and great people watching!

Absolutely do not recommend. We had gone here for lunch before, and it was fine. However, we got here well before rush during happy hour, and in 45 minutes we had to flag down our waitress as she sped by us to ask to get drinks. She was way more interested in hanging out near the bar. We ultimately had to grab another random waitress to ask them to get our waitress so we could get food before happy hour ended. Terrible service for meh food. It's also incredibly dark.

This place was great. The portion was kinda small, but was very flavorful. A place I would try again.

Great Cal-Mex location in the Gaslamp Quarter. Make sure you get an order of the bottomless chips and salsa. They are well worth it. The strawberry margarita was the best we've ever had - no joke. Our table ordered the Baja Ceviche which was stuffed with crab and HUGE. We also got the Surf & Turf Tacos & the Mexican Panzanella Salad with grilled chicken. Everything was delicious. Large portions. Friendly & attentive staff and you definitely get your money's worth. This is one of those places you visit every time you're in town.

I loved the Cadillac & the ceviche both delicious. Tried the carne asada nachos which were huge lol didn't really care for them but the asada was on point. The chips were good. Didn't like candied jalapeños. Cool ambience. Tried other drinks but didn't really care for them either. I'd probably go again if in the area for the Cadillac and ceviche

The worst waitress/server EVER! When asked for a pitcher of water, she stated give me a minute... never came back, never stopped by to see if we were happy and seemed put out when we asked for our check... BTW was not impressed with the Chicken Torta for 14.00. Never again!

I’ll be honest this place doesn’t even deserve the 1 star I’ve given... if your not an American citizen they are not interested in good customer service. We did in all honesty turn up to the bar with a person aged 34 with no ID to be told if one of us was to get her a drink or she was seen with alcohol we will all be removed-this was not the issue but the way we were told was!!! Now as the place was I’d say 20% full capacity we found a table to accommodate our party of 12 and sat down quietly... to then be approached by an aggressive member of staff and told to move which we were happy to do as we were paying the bill at the bar- as doing so a member of staff then approached the customer again at the bar and again said please remove yourself from our premises as we’ve been aggressive - as a travel consultant from the UK I’m shocked at this service and will NOT be recommending this bar to anyone and I will be making everyone aware this before they come to San Diego

Been here before and food was good. This time it was just OK. I ordered the Carne Asada Cali Machete (extra long quesadilla) and it was meh. Pretty bland and skimpy on both the carne asada and the filling in general. There was just way too much tortilla vs filling. Another at our table ordered an al pastor torta and there was barely any meat on thiers as well. The rest of our table ordered tacos and said they were both good and plentiful. Warning on the corn, if you're a fan of tapatio you'll be fine, otherwise, it takes over the taste and the heat makes it inedible. On an up note, the churros are some of the best we've found this side of the border!

Our server needs training in service. She was terrible. Food was over priced and I would just say ok. I probably wouldn’t go there again!

Absolutely disgusted so rude service is shocking . Rude staff. We have come over for business for Microsoft to be treated disgraceful. They deserve to be closed down . Dreadful .

Excellent service, great SoCal vibe and food and drinks were on point. Great spot for Mexican while trolling Gaslamp.

Loved everything about this place! From our wonderful waitress to the chips and salsa and our delicious lunches! The drinks are fantastic, too! Great ambiance and music, and awesome service!

Brilliant! Friendly people and a wonderful menu! We will definitely be back. Ps. Also conveniently close to Petco Park.

Pulled off an amazing wedding gift surprise here yesterday with the help of hostess, server, manager and staff- presented him with Metallica tickets after convincing him we were looking for a secret speakeasy, complete with hand delivered clues- he was in total shock and awe! The food and drinks were equally amazing, but it really was the service that put the experience over the top! So grateful for their willingness to help, despite it being a concert day! Thanks so much!!
