Review Miguel's Cocina - San Diego

We got a very nice table right by the window with a great view of the old town. Vegetarian options were limited. We had veg enchilada and it was great. Margaritas are served in small quantities as compared to other restaurants on the same street, but it was strong and tasty. Service was really good.

The food is fantastic, and the service is commendable! We had a delightful experience with their happy hour menu, featuring generous serving sizes at $7 per item. It's important to note that this menu is available exclusively in the bar area. Overall, a thumbs-up experience! 👍🏻👍🏻

We got the 3 taco meals and the 3 mini burritos to get a sample of everything. The food was so satisfying to eat. I traveled with kids and the staff were able to have the spicy sauce on the side. The highlight is the salsa and chips, super crispy and a good size for dipping.

Came here while visiting Old Town and figured we'd try a new restaurant. The staff were very friendly and the service and atmosphere were excellent. They served complimentary chips and salsa and even queso. I got the sampler platter for my entree, which comes with nachos, ceviche, empanadas, taquitos, and fried calamari. Sounds good, but the platter was too expensive for the quality of food. The nachos were basically just half-melted cheese on a few chips, nothing special but tasted pretty good. The ceviche was okay, but didn't taste fresh at all. The empanadas were great, no issues there! The taquitos tasted decent but they came out incredibly soggy due to all the tomatoes and tomato juice all over them. Seemed like the whole platter was sitting there for a long time. Lastly, the fried calamari was a disaster. The breading tasted exactly like the crust on a whole wheat slice of bread. It wasn't light, salted, flavorful, nothing. All I could taste was that bread crust flavor. I couldn't tasted any squid at all. I wish I could recommend this restaurant to people because the service and atmosphere were great, but the food was nowhere near as good as it should be for the prices.

This place was the closest to where we parked so we chose to eat here! It wasn't too busy, especially compared to the other restaurants in Old Town. We were seated quickly and got through our whole meal in about an hour. My husband got the classic margarita, and I got the lavender citrus mule. Sooooo goooood! The waiter said it is relatively new, and I hope it stays a staple. I'm not much of a drinker but I loved it! Chips, salsa, and queso were placed on the table and were really good. The chips were top notch, I'm pretty sure they make them in-house. The salsa was better than the queso, but both were tasty. We ordered the tacos norteno taco plate and the chicken mole taco plate. It comes with rice and refried beans, which were super flavorful, and 2, I'd say, medium-sized tacos. Of the 2, the chicken mole was the best. The norteno tacos didn't really have much flavor, but the griddled cheese gives it points. The chicken mole tacos were so flavorful, and there was a lot of meat. The service was also very friendly! We sat inside, but they did have outside seating for nice days as well as bar top seating and a seating area where you can watch them make tortillas. I would come here again if in the area.

Pozole was a total disappointment! It looked and tasted like a guisado de puerco. Calimari was different but it tasted really good. Service was great and atmosphere was good.

Given where this is located and all the hype of old town, this was a little disappointing. Food was solid but not amazing. Service could have been better. Wait times were long, parking is horrible, but had a great vibe and environment. We had high expectations and wish they had met them.

This place was right in old town, San Diego. Good location, service was good. The margaritas were the strongest and tastiest out of the other three Mexican restaurants I ate while in San Diego. The guacamole could have been better, but the dish I ordered was absolutely delicious. It was three different mini burritos with a side of rice and beans. One burrito was a sea food burrito, another was pork, and the other was beef. All are prepared differently and all equally very good! I'd definitely go back to this place while I'm in San Diego.

Food was absolutely delicious! Staff was very friendly and the view on the outside patio was phenomenal!

Beautiful building with amazing outdoor seating and a cozy vibe that feels very welcoming! Great drinks menu and wonderful food... Definitely a great place to go in Old Town đź‘Ť

Family-friendly environment with a nice selection of food and drinks. It was my first time at this location, and I enjoyed the Poblano Chile Relleno with rice and beans. The Chile was stuffed with seasoned ground beef, with diced potatoes, melted cheese on top, and a flavorful tomato sause accented with queso fresco. I definitely would have it again.

Great place to grab a bite to eat. If available, get a seat next to the water. The service, food and atmosphere were top notch. The lemonade was fresh squeezed and delightful with the tasty food!

The Old Town location is the best one in San Diego! The food menu is extensive and everything on it is pretty much on point. The servers are always great even though they are muliti-tasking and being pulled 100 different ways. The classic white cheese sauce is a must to start any meal off!

Have visited this location quiet a few times and really enjoy it. The food is great and the chips, salsa and queso are delicious! We usually get pretty good service for the most part. We look forward to coming back next time we are in Old Town and highly recommend it to anyone visiting. I suggest planning on having there be some sort of wait time because it’s usually busy. A little insider secret is there is parking in the back for customers only. Such a win!

Good place to stop and eat. The food and environment was great. Service was just alright.

Great food, good service!! Enjoyed their happy hour menu. Good serving size and $7 per item. You have to sit in the bar area for that menu. 👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you for such an amazing night. The food was great even for my kids. The outdoor seating area was warm during the light rain. The staff was friendly. They made a small mistake and we got one person’s food for free including dessert. The reservation was smooth and on time. Different choices with different ingredients styles and prices. I would not say it was pricy given the taste the location and the decoration. I recommend and will definitely come back again.

Pleasant atmosphere. Small parking lot.. handy in Old Town. Food was delicious. Returned for an end-of-an-era gathering. We had a set menu. One of us was allergic to some of the salad ingredients. Normally they just skipped the salad part. But the waitress said that she would substitute a cup of soup. That was excellent as most places don't do that especially with a set menu. Highly recommend.

Best Mexican food I've had in a very long time. Queso with chips was delicious, the enchiladas were wonderfully tasty and comforting, and my wife enjoyed her fajita combination plate quite a bit. 5 out of 5, absolutely wonderful.

Was attending a family wedding and we wound up at this location the day after. Great service for a group of 20. The food was prompt, every plate was hot - and - the chips & salsa were the best I've ever had. Love their jalapeno cream sauce!

E has now left the country, and while I’m going to miss her company so much, I definitely wanted to spend some stress-free time with her before she left. Hence, a weekend trip to San Diego was in order. She’d been wanting to go there for a while, so I was glad we were able to make it happen. Since I had my sister’s car until the 26th, I was able to drive us down without having to worry about public transit.

Yum city
Really enjoyed this eatery. Nice people. Good food. Easy to order off the menu. I wasn't that hungry and they have an al la cart selection. I recommend the swordfish taco.

We originally found Miguel's Cocina through Tequila Trail 2012. I picked this place to celebrate my birthday with friends and it was a great choice! The patio area was roomy and filled with sunshine and smiles of course, because they get to spend time with meeee! After eating out multiple times in the last week, I decided to go a little healthier with a southwestern flare and ordered the Fiesta Salad for $13. This was a crispy flour tortilla shell filled with mixed greens, black beans and roasted corn, salsa fresca and guacamole, and topped with grilled pollo asado.

This place was excellent. My wife and I went on a Sunday afternoon and were very impressed. The Calamari and Nacho appetizer was fantastic. They had complimentary chips and salsa and cheese dip. The chips were some of the best chips I've ever had.

We split a beef tostata. It was more than enough for two people (especially after all the chips/salsa and apps). Fantastic. Great service, great food, great price.

Finally great professional service.. I don't mean to imply that there are not many wonderful restaurants who also cater out there, but after trying to contact 3 different caters with no response I contacted Miguel's. They were quick and timely about responding back to all of my inquires. They set up an appointment with me to check out the venue where i needed the the catering and promptly scheduled me to have a tasting. If anyone out there is looking for great food and professional, prompt and extremely pleasant staff I would recommend Miguel's/Brigantine.

Appetizers Very Nice. Stopped in with a group of 6 recently for margaritas and appetizers. All were very tasty and the service very friendly. Their margaritas were better than Coyote's across the street. A beautiful evening

We found Miguel's Cocina from San Diego best restaurants. Miguel's was voted best chips and salsa and it didn't disappoint! They cheesy dip they bring you at no extra charge is fabulous! They have a really good and inexpensive happy hour that is worth going too. The 3 taco happy special was really awesome and for $3. Cute atmosphere and great service! Definitely will be coming back!

4 of 7 silverware sets were had food chunks dried to them. had 3 tacos for 3 bucks off the special menu. They pretty much sucked. The queso dip was good (free) but the salsa is average at best.

Our server was ditzy and inattentive. She didn't handle a food allergy order correctly, (listed as a gluten free friendly restaurant, but shouldn't be, very little to choose from and still put gluten items on my plate) our server also didn't know the menu, and never brought several items asked for like refills on drinks.

Ambiance was nice, but that is really not why you go out to eat, it's because you're hungry.

The food was not great. It wasn't flavorful and wasn't fresh. Not impressive at all. Didn't enjoy it.

We were sent here by our hotel's recommendation. We will let them know it was disappointing.

Great place, great food. This was a great alternative to the Mexican "greasy spoon" restaruants we tried in San Diego. Quality food, great service, great atmosphere. I would eat here again and again...the carnitas were awesome, as well as the enchiladas suiza and fish taco.

Without question the best fajita I have ever had.

Mexican food eateries are a dime a dozen in Old Town San Diego, but Miguel’s Cocina stands out from the others by offering upscale cuisine and mighty margaritas in a warm and charming setting without the formulaic décor and overwhelming liveliness of neighboring spots. The Old Town location is one of six Miguel’s in San Diego County, not including Miguelito’s in Coronado, which is considered a “Miguel’s Jr.,” if you will. The Miguel’s brand is part of the Brigantine family of restaurants, and has been around since the original opened in Coronado in 1973. Chef Rigo Gutierrez heads the kitchen at the Old Town location and has been with the company since the first Miguel’s opened more than thirty years ago. San Diego’s Old Town is inundated with Mexican restaurants, many of which cater to tourists in search of the “ authentic ” Mexican experience, which typically means mariachi bands, sombrero hats, and vibrant piñatas, all within the confines of a boisterous and color
