Traffic is horrible in downtown, Padres are playing and of course parking is horrible as well. Locals like me are normally skeptical going to restaurants in downtown because they say the food served are for tourists only. I was wrong. We were 30 minutes late from our reservations. First thing I noticed, the Friendly staff. To me it's important to have a staff that are accommodating and friendly. The ambiance is wonderful. And of course the highlight for the night...the food...no need for salt and pepper, everything is in perfection and delicious...Kudos to the Chef and to all the staff!!!

We enjoyed the unique ambiance of the place and were waited on by an attentive staff. The food was very good with generous portions. There just no better place, in my view, to dine out than in the Gaslamp Quarter downtown San Diego.

Great brunch spot in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Fun NYC feeling atmosphere, great people watching from the second floor rooftop, service is on point and the food and drinks are top notch. Fun, elevated bar/restaurant in a perfect downtown location.

We stopped by the Rustic Root in San Diego and Abby was wonderful!! She allowed us to sit upstairs and overlook 5th Ave. to have a few cocktails. The view was amazing and being December, the holiday decor was fabulous. We were near a fire-pit and very comfortable in the open air 59 degree balcony. Will definitely stop back when we are in town!!

Excellent food for the price point. Good selection of wines and a nice collection of cocktails. We had the manager Vince sit with us for a few minutes and we had a great discussion on service and good food . Fall off the bone ribs. A tomahawk pork chop and really good brussel sprouts. Again, many thanks Vince. We'll be back when we are in town!!!

We made a reservation to eat dinner at Rustic Root for Thanksgiving because they were offering a Thanksgiving meal as well as their regular menu offerings. I’m not a huge traditional turkey kind of guy so I opted to order off the menu while my companion ordered the traditional turkey dinner. But wait, I’m getting ahead of myself….. First off, Rustic Root had three hosts up front when we arrived and they were smiling broadly and welcoming to us as we arrived at the restaurant. I let them know we had a reservation and they immediately were able to walk us to a dining room table. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for fall with leaves hanging from the ceiling throughout the premises. Chill EDM (electronic dance music) was playing at a moderate level and it was a festive scene in 80% full dining room. After sitting down we were quickly approached by our smiling waitress who took our drink order. Quick tip: Their Moscow Mule was really good. We also ordered a side of Brussels to share before our meal. For dinner we ordered the traditional Thanksgiving meal and the Bone-in Pork Chop. The roasted Brussels were really the only thing we weren’t crazy about during our visit. It wasn’t that they were horrible but the spicy honey made it a bit too sweet for our liking. The turkey dinner was absolutely humongous and came with corn, beans, cranberries, a biscuit, mashed potatoes and potato salad. My pork chop came with an amazing Demi-glaze. I subbed a jalapeño corn bread for the broccolini side and it also came with roasted sweet potatoes. The pork was beautifully cooked and the picture doesn’t really do it justice. It’s a good size meal. The sweet potatoes went well with the pork and I absolutely LOVED the corn bread. My mouth has started watering just thinking about it again. Looking forward to our next visit for sure!

Came here for dinner on the 4th of July. It's a nice rooftop vibe! They booths on the edge have fire pits, as it gets chilly in the evenings. The food here was so good. My wife started by getting the braised pork belly, which she said was the best she's ever had. She also got the wild boar bolognese, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and was a heaping portion. I started with the cheddar & chili roasted cornbread. It was DIVINE! It had a honey drizzle that it was coated with that made it amazing! For my entree, I had the bone-in pork chop. That is a seriously good pork chop. The broccoli and sweet potato were seasoned well, and tasted great also. Katherine gave good, prompt service. Come for the rooftop, but also try as much food as you can off the menu!

This is a late review, it’s been a year since we visited. Don’t really recall the food, so probably decent but nothing to write home about. Cool outdoor space with interesting topiaries. Very boozy brunch vibes - lots of people in cowboy boots and hats and various groups ready to get their weekends started!

We waited for a roof top table even as the main dining space was basically empty and were glad to wait for ten minutes, the vibe was great and service dynamic. Food came in fast after ordering, a little too fast. Great selection of drinks and appetizers but I'd prefer a few more meat and poultry options to the entrees selection. The appetizers are generous in portion, we ordered the spicy prawns, burrata, and Mac and cheese. It hit the spot. The appetizers filled us up to the point that a couple of us shared an entree. The fried chicken was moist and delicious, so were the scallops with cauliflower and the lobster pasta. Overall good experience.

We did a rooftop dinner for 2. I had the shrimp as an appetizer. She had the meatballs. For the entree I had the Bobster roll, she had the...........shrimp and grits (sorry I had to remember what she got). Food and drink pacing was just right. Unfortunately I cannot remember the waitress we had (the only thing I remember is she is from Tallahassee) but she was fantastic. Very attentive, came around at the right times and was just a peach to have conversations with. 10/10 will recommend/be back again.

Came here for brunch, was hoping to get the more extended menu (probably the dinner options) but I was still satisfied with the brunch menu. The pancakes look amazing, although I tried the burger, and my wife tried the chicken sandwich. The burger had a super soft bun, and was very juicy. I was digging the size, it comes with a double patty. The chicken sandwich was dank, it had a nice crisp and a perfect spice to it. We split the chilequilles as an appetizer and it was packed with flavor, we loved it. When we first arrived and sat at a table on the roof top our waitress passed us 3 or 4 times and never acknowledged us, no eye contact, no "ill be right with you" so we got up and sat at the bar. Glad I did because the bartender Sean was delightful and gave great service. It was my birthday and the manager who's name I forgot, was super friendly and had a quick chat with us, wishing me a happy birthday. Service like this, and friendly managers, gets a easy 5 stars from me. Thanks guys, see you for dinner soon!

The food was amazing! The hash scramble was incredible, the salads were perfect with not too much dressing, the rice had some kick, the honey cinnamon latte was unique. Ambience was cool, music was loud which is good for fun, but might be a bit loud for important conversations or those that are hard of hearing. The staff was always visible and helpful. Chairs were a bit high so if you're short or have accessibility issues, be sure to mention that prior to seating. Such a unique place!
