Review Miguel's Cocina - San Diego

Ervin Eliud
Our restaurant experience was truly exceptional. We adored the interior decor, and our waitress was incredibly attentive. It was a family lunch outing, and we were thoroughly impressed by both the food and service. I'd definitely recommend it, though it might not be the best choice for vegans, but they do offer some customization options. The spacious and inviting atmosphere added to the enjoyment of our dining experience.

This is a must go to have excellent Mexican food. I cannot say enough of how great the food was. We had a half hour wait because we were a group of 7, but was it worth every minute of the wait. The staff is great, we had a three year old with us and they were fabulous with him. He placed his own order and even asked for a refill of his water, and they were just amazing with him. This place is a must go to.

The food is good especially when our flights just arrived in late afternoon, have good price and quick service became important. My boys ordered brunch very American, I ordered Mexican food that is why I picked there. I like it very much. The veggie and cheese wrapped by squid with rice and beans covered by melted cheese. Taste good.

Great food and excellent mocktails. Sat next to a large party who felt it was okay to talk loud and use vulgar language. Glad we didn't have children with us.

The food was delicious and tasted freshly authentic. The flavors were good but could use some more spice/flavor to make it perfect. The lighting for an evening meal is welcoming and the noise level was pleasant enough for conversations. Fun and decorative upper deck that is popular for a lovely SD summer night. You can wear classy. or more casual and fit in. Great vibes. I had the chicken chimichanga and my coworker had the Fajitas Supremo. I would recommend! Great unlimited Salsa and chips and drinks.

Great food! Excellent taste on all the food we ate. Awesome and cool restaurant. Super authentic Mexican food!

The waiter was the best! The food wasn't as good. I ordered the shrimp ceviche, and it was not very flavorful. Just needed something. I wanted a side of beans, and they were perfect with lots of onions and cheese on top. The atmosphere on the deck was very nice with perfect weather. Although I noticed it was very hard to read the menu without using the phone as light. Would definitely return!

Great service, delicious food, many choices on the menu for all types of eaters. All 10 people in our group enjoyed their meals. Good portions at reasonable prices. I had the shrimp enchilada which were excellent.

Blew away expectations, the salsa and queso upon sitting down was not only awesome but both were super tasty. The salad with shrimp and pork with mango...mixed in a caesar, was delicious! Don't question the combo, it works. The carne asada taco / relleno combo was spot on. Great service.

When you are so close to the Mexican border in San Diego, you have to try Mexican food. This restaurant was a little off the touristy place, but still close to the water. It has two levels, a little cramped, but the service was good and food was excellent. Of course, we had the ( high priced) margaritas, they were good but small. I ordered the barbacoa, which was a little bit different than El Paso style, but it was good. Good, quick service, a must try if you are near the bay in San Diego. I think it is a local chain because they had one right in the middle of the touristy area.

The staff was super friendly but pretty slow. If you’re going for your lunch break, I would let them know you need to order sooner than later but the food comes out pretty fast. I got the chicken fajitas and everything was so fresh. The guacamole was 🔥

Did not eat there ordered off the Fiesta to go Menu. Menu prices have increased, but the quality of the food has remained top-notch.

Staying local to this restaurant, I did a Google search of eateries close by, saw the reviews and thought we'd give it a try. The reviews aren't wrong. We were quickly greeted and seated in the upstairs outdoor area, brought menus, glasses of water and a complementary bowl of tortilla chips, salsa and the cheese sauce, all of which were gorgeous. We were automatically brought out another bowl of chips and sauces, again complementary when we'd nearly eaten them all. We ordered the chicken fajitas x2 and the chimichanga burrito x2. All four meals arrived quickly and the fajitas served on a sizzling skillet which was an impressive sight when being served with the sizzling sound and steam which filled the air with gorgeous aromas. The meals were huge. So huge that three of us had to have to-go boxes so that's lunch sorted for tomorrow! Not wasting it as it was really nice. The chicken wasn't dry, had loads of flavour and there was mountains of it. For drinks, three of us had the mocktail that had pineapple and coconut syrup. I want to say it was called a Carmen Miranda but can't be sure. Regardless, it was heaven in a glass and good value at $6. Service was friendly, helpful and quick and I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again if in San Diego again. The total bill came to $103 for four of us eating just a main with drinks. If I could get the cheese sauce back to the UK, I'd buy it by the gallon.

They have a pretty good happy hour, but make sure that you asked to be seated outside. It’s a view of the parking lot, but definitely better than being cooped up inside. Great variety of authentic Mexican food that’s either shareable or for that big appetite.

We got the calamari rellano (spl?) And a carni asada burrito with refried beans and cheese! And it came out to our table hott, fresh and yummy!! The atmosphere is absolutely friendly, with 2 stories of table seating including outside dining. Outside is a small area so if you have a big group, I'm pretty sure they will seat you inside..

Outstanding Quality

We ordered the Monthly Special that included beef carnitas tacos with shrimp. The shrimp are the super fresh, high quality kind. They cut into small pieces and cook in a sauce that makes them crispy on the outside. Super delicious. Home made corn tortillas made this an all around wonderful dish. We’re going back again to have same dish. Cold, fizzy beer on tap, too.

We visited Miguel's with about 10 of us, including 3 grandkids. For easter there were unlimited mimosa's for everyone and the brunch menu was very good. I recommend the 'carni asada' eggs benedict! It was great. We all had good service and really good food!!

Stopped here on way back to car rental return. Very convenient. Pretty interior with friendly staff and warm ambience.

We had swordfish tacos and battered fish tacos with rice and beans. It was decent food but not spectacular.

I would still return for the location and reasonable prices.

Food was Ok, nothing to rave about. Read the great reviews and was disappointed when I went there. Service at the bar was ok. Don't know if I would go back if in the area again.

Been awhile but wasn't as good as last time I visited. I had gotten fajitas last time and loved them. Ordered burrito & taco dish that left no impression. I might just stick with fajitas next tome..

The queso and salsa are great! Loved the fish tacos. Employees very friendly but a bit overwhelmed! I would come back!

The swordfish tacos were amazing! The view was spectacular! The staff was super friendly!

A wonderful surprise!. My son and I happened upon this place one evening and decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! From the chips, cheese sauce and salsa to the dessert, it was all spectacular! Mu son is a picky eater, but he gladly ate every bite on his plate. We will definitely be back!

Absolutely great food! Their salsa has a nice bite with just a hint of cilantro. The white sauce is amazing. I'll eat here again.

Good views from upstairs. Good service too. Food is bland. However, customers not used to good Mexican food may like it (think Tio Leo's and El Torritos crowd)

SOOOOOO GOOOOOD!. Was on lunch break from a meeting and did not want to leave. The food was excellent! Had the shrimp enchilada, the chile relleno, and the chips and salsa with the hot jalapeno cheese dip. Very nice atmosphere and staff were friendly. Pics to come!

Perfect for the Risk-Averse. You're 15 miles from the border. There is no reason to eat this kind of food here.

Awesome! Thank you Miguel's! You Made My Life Bright!. Traveling with a 7 year old in tow. Have a G.I. Tract issue you don't want to know about. Was 350 pounds...and now 200. Friends say I look like I'm wasting away. Eating has become a chore. Then I get to Miguel's, and I eat. I get to eat with no follow-up symptoms. I get to eat food for days and days with no punishment!

I get to eat incredible Mexican food. I get to feel as if I am in my Grandmother's kitchen sucking down Seviche before some party where the important guests won't even leave me a leaf of cilantro.

Okay, the tortillas aren't made from scratch. But, who cares when what fills it is a happy party in your mouth? My son actually looked up at the waiter and said, "She looks like she eats a lot, but, she can't even eat a teaspoon of rice because she's sick all the time." The waiter looked at me, smiled and said, "So precious, we can tailor you portions. Anything on the menu can be scaled down to meet your needs." What a fantastic person! I am sooooo tired of American portions. I really hate being viewed as a cheapskate because I am no longer a gluttonous person. Never -in three days of eating at this restaurant - was I made to feel less than an excellent customer.

So, I get back home and make my own "famous" refried beans. Symptoms and more symptoms. So, I call the restaurant. I spend time with a "hostess," and manager and then the chef! And they are happy to hear my story and help me figure out what the differences are just so that when I go to the doctor next week, I can present some data.

Any restaurant which allows me to enjoy, relish and celebrate eating is great. A restaurant which takes time to help me be heathy enough to come back again is priceless. I only wish I could add a portion of refried beans on my tab for anyone who goes here.

Great chips, great salsa, great service. Even if there is a line of people waiting to eat at Miguel's Cocina, don't leave! The food is fantastic; service is impeccable and it has great prices.

Miguel's Cocina - Pt Loma. We've lived in Pt Loma for over 25 years and Miguel's Cocina is one of our favorites. We've eaten there dozens of times and the service is great and the food is even better. If there is a line it's worth the wait

Great chips and salsa! Quick service. The best I've tried in the city.

The very first Miguel’s Cocina opened in Coronado back in 1982 and the concept has been growing and feeding folks from all over ever since. No matter where you are in San Diego you are never too far from a Miguel’s, with locations in 4S Ranch, Coronado, Old Town, Eastlake, Point Loma and now Carlsbad, there’s plenty of ways to indulge in the restaurants signature items. Winning numerous awards over their 30 years for their fish tacos, creating a truly addictive white sauce and providing authentic Mexican dishes at every location has kept them growing over all these years.
