A lovely breakfast restaurant and family friendly. We had breakfast here 2 days in a row during our 5-day visit of the city.
It was really lovely and the food was very tasty. The staff there was friendly, and despite how busy the place was, we were taken pretty good care.
The only caution is that on a weekend, there will be a bit of a wait depends on the time you visit there.
Overall, it was great and the waffle was delicious!!

OMG after long searches for a perfect what I rate 10 breakfast restaurant, i happened to find this gold mine while passing through. All the food is amazing because I watched as it was coming out. If you want a cinnamon roll from heaven this is the place. If you want a country style breakfast with all the trimming, this is the place. And if you are a family of four and on a budget this is the place for you. I will make it a point from here on forth to put this place as one of my stops when passing through.

Possibly the best $50-$80 meal I have had in a long time! The patty melt was delish. The blueberry cornbread waffle was just right. And service was with a smile, yet professional. The owner (Terrell) led me in, and was checking in with a lot of diners. She is also the model in the picture below. Amazing! Thank you…will be back. ✌🏽💗🙏🏽

Get the tamale and eggs! It's a bit on the pricey side, but Cafe 222 is a cozy diner with good coffee and great food. There are really friendly staff here too. It can be a nice send off if you're staying downtown on a trip.

Like the old song goes “Still Got It Girl” & this classic spot fits the bill. Friendly, warm, inviting and service with the smile, this breakfast eatery is delicious. Very large soft buttermilk pancakes, soft scrambled eggs with swiss cheese, and perfectly cooked turkey bacon. Quick service with seating inside and out, check it out, you will thank yourself later.

Great waffle! Great service! Great atmosphere! Everything is in order and everyone knows what they are supposed to do. I opted for basic waffle with fresh fruit and yogurt. Many other tempting menu options, from healthy to more greasy options. Recommended.

Place is very casual, café style, outdoor and indoor sitting arrangement and gets crowded, but the food is good. We went during cómic con, so that didn't help. Waited about 40 minutes on a Saturday around 10am. Server was quick bringing drinks and taking order. We had cornbeefhash, pb banana French toast and kids strawberry pancakes. ALL was exquisite and well worth the wait. Our bill was about 70 with tip included.

I have walked my dogs past this cute cafe more times than I can count and we finally made it over for breakfast this morning. So happy we did - wish we had done it sooner.
It’s a small cafe with (as I counted) 7 tables and six counter seats inside and another 7 tables outside. We were fortunate there was no wait for a table inside. Atmosphere feels a bit crowded because you are right on top of the next table over but that’s more a space issue and trying to fit more tables in than anything else. If you don’t like others hearing your conversation this isn’t the place for you.
That being said the service was fantastic and the food was scrumptious. We had the Biscuits and Gravy and it was probably the best I’ve had in San Diego. Tastefully peppery and plenty of gravy for the dish. It also comes with potatoes covered in gravy which I’ve never really experienced before but were good. I might ask them to skip the potatoes and give another biscuit or two next time as the potatoes seemed heavier than the fluffy biscuits. We also ordered the Breakfast Burrito covered in “Mexican Sauce” (read red Enchilada Sauce) and served with retried beans. My partner loved this dish and I had a taste and concurred it was tasty. It has green chiles inside which are mild. My partner is super picky about anything claiming to be Mexican so the fact it was a positive review on that is saying something.
Couple other menu items we are interested in trying next time are the Waffle with Fresh Strawberries and the Stuffed Banana Peanut Butter French Toast. We saw both dishes coming out to other tables and they looked delicious.

Had breakfast here with a friend while visiting for the weekend! Im we sat outside on a Saturday morning which was nice and mild. The service was fantastic!! And the food was really good (at least the scramble that I had and the blueberry pancakes!) I would definitely go back again!!

We had brunch at Cafe 222 at around 10:45 AM on a Tuesday. It was easy to find free parking but I expect that won't be the case on the weekend. The restaurant was not crowded so we were seated immediately. There is both indoor and dog friendly outdoor seating, but most of the outdoor seating isn't fully covered. It was drizzling when we arrived and we had our dog with us. The host was very kind and seated us just past the host stand in a fully covered outdoor area. He even brought a bowl of water and a few treats for our dog. We ordered the peanut butter and banana stuffed french toast and chili and cornbread waffle. We loved everything we ate! Peanut butter and banana lovers will really enjoy the french toast. You get three big pieces of french toast that are jammed packed with creamy peanut butter and ripe, soft bananas. The bread looks like simple sliced wheat bread but it's perfect as french toast. The chili and cornbread waffle was also excellent - a great savory option. The waffle was very soft and tender and it has a good corn flavor. The waffle was covered generously with chili and cheese and a dallop of sour cream. I would highly recommend Cafe 222 for brunch. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and fast. Plus, the outdoor seating area is dog friendly.

Loved this place! Great breakfast and awesome service! It was a few blocks away from the hubbub of the Gaslamp District, so it wasn’t as busy as some of the other places! The crowd that they did have was moved to their seats quickly and served! All in all a great experience!!

Awesome food! Amazing customer service! Super busy spot, but the food was piping hot, served to perfection. The servers, hosts and everyone we came in contact with were super
Coffee tastes good and my cup was always warm and full.
The skillet potatoes were perfectly seasoned and really delicious.
The waffle was crispy, fluffy, chewy, and not at all overly sweet... in essence the perfect waffle!

Loved this little place! The decor and breakfast diner vibe was great and the service was superb! We had the Churro waffle and blueberry cornbread waffle, both were amazing! I'm from Louisiana and was in town for a conference, we decided to try Cafe 22 on our last morning of the trip and we weren't disappointed!! If I'm ever in Sandiego again, this will be a mandatory breakfast stop!

Cute place, easy to find, very busy but quick wait (less than 15 minutes), staff are very cute-friendly, quick and good with check ins.
Seating inside and out, outside has heaters for those cooler mornings.
Food was beautiful, we got a Churro Waffle combo (very yummy, loaded with cinnamon & sugar, topped with a dollop of whipped cream a slice strawberry & then drizzled with chocolate syrup, 2 eggs & sausage), Joe's Special (a good sized frittata with a mix of spinach, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, jack cheese, topped with a sliced tomato & a dollop of sour cream, with a crispy blend of potatoes, bell peppers, & onions & toast), and Super Biscuits & Gravy (their large & fluffy house-baked biscuits smoothers in a chunky peppery pork gravy with 2 eggs any way you wantthem, 3 sausage links and those awesome potatoes).

Great breakfast joint. Outdoor service is quick and easy and the food never disappoints. The peanut butter French toast and the chicken fried steak-solid choices. I’m not sure what kind of magic they do to their turkey bacon, but I’m here for it!

Found this place in a local travel magazine and was excited to try the cornbread blueberry waffle - it did not disappoint!! Absolutely delicious! We also tried the famous peanut butter and banana stuffed French toast. Totally worth the calories! The place is a bit small yet they were a bit overwhelmed… was a tad concerning but would probably go back if ever in the area.
