From the fantastic staff, to the ambiance and especially the fabulous cuisine we always recommend Frederick's Restaurant! The menu accommodates my husband who eats everything and also a vegetarian like me. :) We both leave very happy!!
We had an unexpectedly kid-free, turkey-free Thanksgiving Day, and I'm so glad we got booked at Frederick's! Don't get me wrong, they offered a full Thanksgiving dinner with trimmings had we wanted it, but who can say no to Norwegian salmon with lemon-caper sauce or beef tenderloin expertly cooked? Our dinner was perfection, as was the wait staff and ambience. Holidays with family have their place, but I think we'll be starting a new holiday tradition very soon! Thank you!!
We were served hard crust soft bread, ordinary, but satisfying. The amount of butter served was nicely sufficient; however, the taste was not full, but rather flat of flavor. Additionally, we only had an entree each, but every bite was delicious. The special was trout, parmesean-crusted with avocado relish, vegetables and quinoa to accompany the fish. The chef had done something unique to that crust, as I have previously had that dish, and this chef's preparation was superior. If only we had room for dessert, as it must have matched. Yearn! One warning: the restaurant is hard to find unless you hunt it from the parking lot in back. The lighting was really nice.
For me the best restaurant in Town
Escargots
Fish Parmesan
Beef tenderloin
Glazed Ribs
Any thing you order is delicious
I had tried many times and don’t change my mind
Delicious
Frederick Costa (owner) is one of the most cordial and accommodating individuals we have ever encountered in the restaurant business. These people have unbelievably good food, bend over backward to please their customers, and provide a quiet quaint environment in which to dine or lunch.
Do not miss anything on the menu. We are frequenters and often also enjoy specials.
Do not miss.
Wow.. This place is underrated and under appreciated. I had one of the best meal here and would gladly paid more for it. It's one of the better place we tried. I had the duck breast and it was delicious . My date had the steak and I had to say it is better than Ruth Chris
Always a pleasant expierence.. Occasionally, my wife and I drop in to Frederick’s to relax after work. It’s always a pleasant experience. We often sit at the bar and enjoy a drink and a couple of small plates. The Chicken Lettuce Package and the Baked Brie & Goat Cheese in Puff Pastry are just two of our favorites. The service is exceptional and the atmosphere is refreshingly quiet and comfortable.
Good, but.... We went there for a large birthday party las Saturday night; We were the first to arrive, only to learn the reservations made personally nearly a month in advance and confirmed only the day before were not ready or even listed. OOOPS! The manager quickly solved the problem by setting up their large room, elegant and spotless. Thankfully, it was available.
The dinner itself was very nice; We all started with the spring-rolls which were very tasty and delicious. The fish sauce had no taste and was questioned by the entire party as to it's freshness. The bread was also delicious, frsh and tasty. I had the tenderloin with crab-meat and Hollandaise sauce - it was yummy! The accompanying vegetables were superb - crisp, fresh and flavorful. My daughter had the same (w/o crab) and was far too rare for her taste (medium rare instead of well-done) but she ate it anyway as she was starving by the time it all arrived.
Generally, all the waiters were professional, competent and very friendly.
All in all, I would recommend this place for it's food, ambiance and elegance, but not for the reservation-taking abilities. Apparently, they have a lack of communication somewhere along the line.
Had it not been for the Groupon I don't think we would have tried this place but that would have been a real miss. This place is absolutely terrific. The four of us ate there last week and we were impressed. Our favorites were the beef tenderloin and the calamari appetizer. The wine list was large, the bread was served with some good butter. The beer selection though was non-existent. The service was somewhat slow- they definitely don't rush you, be prepared to make a night of it there (I.e. Don't go if you're trying to make a movie). I was somewhat disappointed with the snails appetizer. It was not done in the traditional manner, more of a soup like serving in a ramekin. But all the other dishes were plentiful and well presented. Try the cherry ice cream too!
Excellent service. Most of our previous experiences here involved wine paring dinners, which don't always give a true reflection of a locale's daily routine.
The clientele (09ers) is definately older, dining room was more crowded when we arrived at 8 (on a Friday) than when we left. Seafood entrees(sea bass/blackened redfish with cucumber) and deserts were both definate hits. Service was very professional and helpful without being obtrusive.
I always enjoy looking at the reserve wine lists just for fun...the crowd here probably can afford to actually order them. Regular list could be broader in scope with some good values to be found.
Good Food Great Service. This remains one of my favorite places to eat. I have to mention, however, that the food quality seems to have declined just slightly since they opened the second location, Frederick's Bistro. I'm wondering if some of the kitchen talent may have moved over to the new location. Perhaps I just caught them on an off night. The best way to try Frederick's is to get on their email list or check their website frequently and wait until they have one of their quasi-montly 5-course prix fixe gourmet food and wine specials. I have been to four of those and every time has been excellent, featuring chef specials not on the regular menu. A wine pairing is served with each of the courses and sometimes they will invite a winery or guest sommelier to do the pairings. They also are generous to keep your wine glass from getting empty before the next course. If you go on a regular night, some things on the menu are better than others. They really seem to know what they are doing with seafood and the scallops are always excellent. The cuisine is supposed to be French fusion, with a Pacific Rim/Vietnamese flair. I suppose that is why the seafood stands out. The other thing I really like about this place is how well trained the dining room staff are. I thought I was back in Paris. One time my wife accidentally spilled a glass of water and they were on top of it in a split second and had reset the entire table with new linen within 30 seconds and with hardly another patron even noticing what happened. Smooth.
Have been there twice and both times was pleased with the food, atmosphere and service. Menu was a little pricey for lunch but well worth it! First timers would recommend trying it for lunch since menu prices cheaper than dinner prices.
Frederick's Restaurant offers a fantastic happy hour selection of eclectic appetizers and custom cocktails. The intimate atmosphere is relaxing and service, table settings and seating arrangement is wonderful. A perfect getaway for a relaxing evening. Located in the heart of Alamo Heights, the premier community in San Antonio. Go there!
Took my 97 y.o. Mother here for her birthday. I’m glad I can’t afford to eat like this everyday. Food was scrumptious & Omar was so attentive. Our new favorite restaurant in San Antonio. Thank you, Frederick’s!
Me and hubby went there for an early Valentine's celebration, they have reservations, place is small about 16 tables, which make the atmosphere romantic and cozy. We order the baked oysters, Duck at La'Orange and New York steak, everything was delicious, service was good, we will definitely go back!!
Frederick's serves finely prepared foods with highly attentive service. The atmosphere is a bit 'old school', but you just can't beat the quality. This is a tried and true, go to location for very good reason!
French and Asian fusion fine dining restaurant with a long history in Alamo Heights. The food is always spot on. There are rotating specials to take advantage of seasonal ingredients. Service is always on point. However, the wine list is severely over priced.
Happy hour prices are more reasonable, especially with the large variety of food items.
Absolute favorite happy hour in town. The escargot is a must and you have to try the smoked salmon platter.
Looking at the little strip mall this is located in, you wouldn't assume you'd find a real French restaurant.
It's got all the classics, from escargot to terrine cake to local market fresh fish cooked several different ways.
They also have a full bar and wine pairings for your meal. Make sure to dress nice as they do have a business casual dress code.
I have been going here since they opened. Food has been constantly wonderful for all these years. The wine choices are unbelievable, they have all wines at a good price point. Their salmon and steaks are my family's favorites. Service is always exemplary and wait staff make you feel like you are only customer in restaurant. Always a joy when I have a meal here.
May 2023. Menu has been updated and the food is still so good. Wine list has been improved and I'm going to have to come back to pair some of the new wines with the new food offerings.
Upscale small restraunt, fine dining. Food is delicious and cooked to perfection! Elegant table setting. Low lighting intimate dining yet all tables enjoying themselves thoroughly! Not a cell phone in sight. Great service and huge wine list! 🙂 loved it!!
