Bring your appetite because this place is totally legit, best down south cooking I've ever had since leaving Louisiana. The portions are huge, the smoked brisket was delicious, the ribs were falling off the bone tender, and the chicken was crisp and tasty. I don't like driving downtown, but this place is easy to get to from the freeway and I will definitely be back.

Best fried chicken! This is a restaurant that is very faithful to the basics. Not only Chicken itself is so fresh but also the way they cook is so tasty. Crispy and savory on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. I had Gumbo and pecan pie too. Shrimp and sausages in the gumbo are cooked so well. Very busy on weekend. Now they open at 3pm-9pm since they are short of people.

Great first experience. We had the fettuccine jambalaya pretty spicy good kick to it. Bucket of fried Nashville chicken, with mashed potatoes and max and cheese.

Pete's Fried Chicken: chicken was crispy, juicy & flavorful, kale greens = tender & good compliment to the chicken, biscuit = moist & crispy at the same time. BBQ Half Platter = big protion of meat, meat had nice flavor. So did the mashed potatoes. I love the outdoors seating. There's a calmness outside with sun, nice breeze under the cover of trees and patio lights. Restaurant clean & spacious. Service was nice.

I had heard good things about this restaurant and decided to check it out. I came in around 3:00 and there were only 8 or 9 people seated so I didn't have wait at all. The menu included a mix of traditional southern comfort food (listed on the menu as "Old School") like Catfish and Fried Chicken and some modern takes (New School) on old favorites such as Fettuccine Jambalaya and Blackened Salmon. I wanted to try everything but I had my heart set on the fried chicken. It came with a huge buttermilk biscuit, southern style kale greens and honey butter for $14. The three pieces of chicken were cooked perfectly with rich, crunchy crust and moist meat. I make great fried chicken and this was better than mine. The greens and the biscuit were well prepared but tasted even better with the sweet honey butter. Although I had to order at the counter the staff was extremely friendly and pleasant when they took my order, brought me my food and refilled my sweet tea. There is a rather tersely worded sign outside of the building explaining the "rules" but I didn't see any of that attitude from the employees. I will be back.

The best burger I've had in Sacramento so far. And I tried quite a few places known for their burgers. My wife got the Fried Chicken and she had great things to say. For sides, we got the Mashed Potatoes & gravy and it was quality stuff. We also got the Hushpuppies for an appetizer and those were worth while for sure. The staff was great and really helpful. But if you want a great burger, go here.

I had read about the best chicken in Sacramento CA. I came here and ordered Peteys chicken, buttermilk biscuit and Kale greens. OMGoooodness! It came out fast, hot, crispy and super fresh. I'll try the 1/2 pound of catfish next! Wow! And the staff was fantastic.

Tasty! Lots n Lots of flavor here! Went here at opening time for lunch and it get crowded fast! If your in a hurry at lunch time come early & get in line, there's no saving tables. This place is definitely worth the wait. Keep in mind this is not a BBQ, this is southern cooking.

I'm from Georgia and this is some of the best quality southern food I've ever had. The fried chicken is moist and the breading is perfectly flavored. The collard greens were easy to chew but still had texture. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

Really enjoyable contemporary and traditional southern dishes. The fried chicken, Nashville style was crispy with moist and flavorful chicken. Came with pickles and a side of cooked greens. The mac'n'cheese was cheesey but a bit bland - hot sauce brought it to an amazing place. Decent selection of beer and the Arnold Palmer was super refreshing.
