The place was very nice. Or server christine was nice and polite. The food was tasty. A little spendy, BUT I am able to get my husband away from the xbox for 2 hours out of 365 days a year so it was worth it. We made it our valentine's night.

Me and my wife ate there while appointments at mayo. Very expensive but we treated ourselves something we hadn't done in years without the kids. Be prepared to purchase each individual item, sides start out at $9 each, smaller items such as mushrooms are $3. For 2 people our tab was $152.00 Food was good but not as good as my steak, we had the new York strip. I rated three stars just because I had to use a knife to cut a $58 steak!!!! It was $58 because they said it was aged... By the way I always leave cash for a tip!!

So this is a very elegant restaurant to take someone you care about to, it has a dark red and deep wood tones and stained glass decor. The seats are fairly comfortable, the steak I had was cooked the way I would expect for a steak house, the meat was a little chewier then I would have expected but the flavor was good. They had brilliant esparugus spears that were cooked well and not mushy. The chocolate tort was odd yet very tasty and appealing, with a slight crunchy texture and a deep chocolate flavor garnished with strawberries, blue berries raspberries whipped cream and touched with a single mint leaf that was fresh and minty. The torte went perfectly with the rich dark roasted coffee. The only thing preventing me from giving this a full five stars would be the menu lacked less pricey steak choices, the while their might be something to higher grade steak, with other options they could bring people in to their establishment to experience their great cooking ability. Over all, this restaurant has good food, a comfortable atmosphere, and good service. It does have a full bar, if you want to have a relaxed drink. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that has a very special occasion, the price is steep, be prepared to pay for the experience.

No doubt the Lord Essex was a standard in days gone by. Our meals were cooked to order, excellant fillet & lobster as well as was my wife's salmon. Yet you can't help but feeling its very tired atmosphere, the hotel, the decor, etc. Not complaining just telling it like it was for us. Could this property prosper by a complete remodel, I sure it would. Then at 8:15PM upon leaving the restaurant, it might have been full, not 1 other single dinner on a Friday night. Albeit this is a totally unique community, but hotels & restaurants are not today, they are modern, feel fresh, lively, charming, engaging, etc.

I must admit for the prices this place was terrible. The service was amazingly slow. I Ordered a $47.00 dollar prime rib medium rare, and it came to me well done. They said that it was medium rare. There was no pink or red in the middle at all. Like it was last nights prime rib served tonight. I will never go back as the food was so not worth the money. Save your money and go elsewhere. I have had better steaks at the Outback and for 1/4 of the cost. Dinner for two was $169.00 with tip. I don’t mind paying for good food but this was terrible food. Buyer be ware.

B-day/Anniversary dinner, not a peak evening or time. Just under 3 hrs. very relaxing, the staff allowed us to languish over every course(6). Very accommodating. Great dinner, prepared to perfection. Last time here was in 2005. Same, maybe even better experience. Thank you Kim!

An excellent steakhouse. I was most impressed with the excellent service, but also the incredible food. It is a hidden gem of Rochester, never did I think such a fun beautiful English style steakhouse would be located right here downtown in the Kahler Grand Hotel! If you have not been save your dollars and go! Excellent excellent excellent.
