Review Char Steak & Lounge - Rochester

Phenomenal restaurant! My partner and I enjoyed our dinner, and the desserts were fantastic (highly recommend the lemon cake). But what I really can’t over-emphasize is how amazing the service was. We were helped by several people, and they were all just so incredibly warm, kind, and thoughtful. So attentive and it was obvious to us that they really cared. We went back for breakfast the next day, and I had one of the most amazing waffle dishes of my life (and again, the service was spectacular!).

This was one of the best steakhouse experiences I’ve had in a long time! We went for our wedding dinner and it was great. They were very nice, super helpful, and treated us amazing. They even brought out extra stuff for us which was so nice and they didn’t have to! Our waitress Gleyce and her assistant waitress were super great to us and so professional and kind! We didn’t get any appetizers but we both got the NY Strip, mine was medium rare + and my wife’s was rare. They came out amazing and not a lot of places know about MR+ so I was pleasantly surprised! My wife got the Bernaise sauce with her steak, she didn’t really like it and neither did I, but the house steak sauce was amazing so we recommend that, however I didn’t use it since the steaks already were so juicy and tender and flavorful! We also got the mac n cheese, Brussels sprouts, and truffle fries and they were all so delicious! For desert I asked if they had cheesecake and she said no, so I got ice cream and my wife got the crème brûlée. When they brought it out she also brought cheesecake which was so nice because she was able to get some for me that they had free of charge. It was all delicious. They also had a coat check which was nice. Overall this was an amazing experience and I hope they all get the recognition they deserve. I would love to come again!

Stopped in for a cocktail to celebrate my Mom’s birthday and had a nice time. John is a great bartender and made me a nice violet cocktail. Will definitely be back on our next trip to have lunch or dinner.

This steakhouse restaurant in the strathallan hotel easily deserves five stars in the food quality. We room service ordered us a cowboy ribeye for 2 which was excellent. And some purée potatoes, which were super. They charred corn was out so we substituted for the spinach dip, which was heavy with dill and cream..so I liked it, but my wife didn’t. The max n cheese was also too fancy for our 2 year old, but I tried it myself and she has terrible taste in food since it was much better than her favorite Kraft microwave junk.

Love the Vibe. The bartenders are great! The food is good, and the locals who hang out there are a vibe, too. My kind of place.

Great food and phenomenal service from our server Sam. There was a little bit of a wait at the door, even though we had reservations, and it was a bit loud, but all in all it was a great experience and we will absolutely be coming back.

Had a fabulous dinner here...we had ribeye, filet mignon and the lamb....all of the plates were exquisitely prepared and perfectly seasoned. My only complaint is that the bar was unable to prepare the first two cocktails we ordered that were on their cocktail menu... 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, Amy profusely apologized and offered some alternate suggestions. Servcie was top notch.

The food was absolutely excellent. Someone in the kitchen knows how to cook salmon perfectly. Joe the bartender is exactly the type of bartender you would hope for, when you're traveling alone for business- the most hospitable I've ever met. And not to mention the drink creations, are fantastic.

I was in town for work and stayed at the Double Tree. This restaurant was extremely convenient for breakfast every morning. I ordered off the menu every day, but the buffet is reasonably priced at $20. The selection looked good. I enjoyed the eggs and potatoes each morning. The staff is wonderful. 11/10 recommend.

Once we got seated away from the kitchen, the dining experience was predictably excellent. Although the hostess wasn't very welcoming or considerate, the waiter was charming and personable. The assistant was attentive and good humored. The food never disappoints. I did have a strip steak medium that needed no additional sauce. Swiss chard and mashed potatoes rounded out a very filling meal. Don't try to come without reservations!

Date night!! 1stvtime visit, really impressed. Bartenders we're great! Ourselves, Allison, was amazing! Had an issue either my wife's meal and manager and chef came out to talk to us. Very impressed with their professionalism. Highly recommend and will definitely return.

Food was fantastic! Service was great! What a great restaurant! We were a party of 3 and our bill was $300.00. Each of us had one glass of wine with dinner. I would definitely go back to this restaurant!

Restaurant and food were excellent but a bit pricey. However valet service deserves a ZERO! I used it because of a disabled partner. They wanted payment up front which was unusual. At 9PM on leaving, they were nowhere to be found. No keys or information. Finally found someone at the desk who found the keys and said the car was somewhere in the lot!!! AWFUL! Fortunately, a very nice security guard heard me and found my car. Avoid the valet...they need to be fired!

Food was absolutely delish. I had the double bone pork with pickled onions and chutney that was cooked perfectly with a finish that lives up to their name. The sides were also very good, I opted for Mac and cheese and also got a few others to share with our party so they were good sized portions. The drinks were also very well made and presented well

So this was my first time at Char Steak & Lounge. I visited with a group. We had drinks up stairs on the ninth floor. Great view of Rochester from the bar area. Drinks are Awesome 💯 had an Old fashion, it was really good 👍 Moved to our private table in a conference room, it was really nice 👍. Ordered appetizers The GRAND PLATEAU 4 oysters, 4 colossal shrimp, split lobster tail, 4 0z. tuna tartare, lobster toast mignonette, tabasco, cocktail sauce and Fried CALAMARI marinara, breaded ciliegini I ordered the 8 FILET MIGNON with 'AU POIVRE peppercorn brandy sauce with a baked potato. The most interesting thing was we enjoyed some Turtle, it was delicious and I would recommend trying it. The drinks were on point ☝️ The food is great 👍 The service we received was awesome 👍

We had a fabulous dinner at Char. Oysters were delicious! Filet Mignon was tender enough to cut with a fork, cooked to perfection, and delectable with the blue cheese and bacon sauce! The add-on of crab was a great choice - the crab was scrumptious! ! Cabernet was also perfect!We let them know we were celebrating my birthday and our anniversary. Every server made a point to wish us a happy birthday and anniversary - even the young woman filling our water glasses. Nice touch! And the complimentary flourless chocolate cake, ice cream, whipped cream AND champaign was the proverbial guilding of the lilly!! We would highly recommend Char. Cannot think of one thing that would have made the evening more enjoyable.

Best meal I've eaten out in Rochester in a long time... Each course was great! The very fresh tasting West Philly sushi roll, the chef's daily fresh pasta selection(parpadelle with a tender braised rabbit ragu*), the perfectly cooked mid rare wood fire grilled Delmonico with a nice smokey char complemented by the melted compound blue cheese & bacon butter and caramelized onions**, all the way to the smoked chocolate ganache mouse with bacon & maple walnut enfused ice cream for dessert...well done Chefs!!�...Will definitely be back.

My experience at Char was truely magical- Our server Laura was on point and genuine. She was quite knowledgeable, and guided us through the heavenly menu. My 8oz filet mignon was cooked perfectly rare. Food like this reminds me why I'm not a vegetarian anymore! The beef tar tar and red prawn small plates where an absolute treat. My cocktail Tequila and Chill was such a divine elixir, I had to get more than one. To top it all off the chocolate mousse- to die for ! Thank you so much for a magnificent evening to remember !

Service and food were spectacular. I had 1/2 dozen raw oysters and the Tomahawk med. rare. Broccolini, mushroom risotto, and Mac n cheese to share at the table. A couple of glasses of Glenlivet and it was one of the finest meals I’ve had. Thanks all!

The thoughtfulness and detail of flavors and preparation of the food is impeccable. The bone-in filet has outstanding flavor. Even the bread is amazing. The service is flawless. The ambience makes for an enjoyable dining experience, quite relaxing and inviting. Char is a wonderful, top-notch restaurant.

Took a group for dinner. Service was very good...a waiter we actually had a couple times before. Appetizers, Steak, Sides, and Desserts here were very good. Lamb unfortunately was very fatty with scant meat, and oddly seasoned, spartan presentation. Almost seemed greasy. For $41 it should be better, much better. Stick with steaks here and you will be happy.

This place does an amazing job! Food was fantastic with a lot of great options. I am only sorry we JUST found out they serve brunch. :( The only negative was that Strathallan does little to no advertising for this service. Your chefs are way TOO good not to advertise and allow people to enjoy what they have to offer!!!

Had an excellent dining experience last night- in fact I would say it was the best meal I've eaten...ever! The food and service were outstanding. Flawless from beginning to end. And Russel W. was the best.

Had an amazing dinner last night at Char. Food was fabulous and the service was stellar! First class five star night! Duncan our server was a rock star... we loved him!

AMAZING BRUNCH!!! Worth every penny and puts all other local brunches to shame. My family spent years of holidays at Stouffers brunch, downtown, overlooking the river, eating fantastic food with fantastic service. They spoiled us for everywhere else. Now brunch is too costly for what it is, service is meh, food is solid but not great, a lot of quantity but no quality, or too full of themselves or depending on their name rather than offer quality food and service. Char is everything I remember about brunch being a delicious, and event worthy experience. If I had the budget, I'd go every month. Simply fantastic.

Fantastic food and service. The reservation was at 7:30 but they didn’t seat us until 8, but gave us an appetizer of our choice. Also brought us complimentary champagne. The food was awesome and their service definitely made up for the late seating.

The service. Ah.mah.zing. The ambiance- fantastic. The food. Bread - I am not a big bread person but Oh My Goodness - AMAZING. Granted, none in our party ordered off of the specialty steak menu, but if I am paying $35 for a crispy duck, I expect stellar duck. Overall, good experience. However, I've had better at a fraction of the cost.

Execellent food, priced a little more toward the higher end, but well worth it. Best service I've had from any restaurant in Rochester. Highly recommended

Very good food. Pricy for Rochester. Oddly, all 3 steaks were served overcooked. To Char's credit, they were replaced with alacrity and courtesy. Second set of steaks were delicious. Yummy sides.
