Review Tony D’s - Rochester

Roger Lareau
Some selections are pricey but the food is well prepared. If you want a pizza you can keep the price down. Specials will eat your wallet. Svc was great. Liked the venue for ambiance BUT as it fills with patrons the noise db can really rachet up to very distracting. Still recommend it if you can tolerate the noise.

We feel that the menu change from the old Tony D's is probably not for us. Very eclectic. The night we were there, there was a bone in rib eye big enough for 2. We did order it. It was phenomenal! 4 star for food because much of the menu is not our taste. 4 star for atmosphere because it's too loud in there. The waiter Nick, (he's a 5 star), was outstanding and very helpful in choosing our order. We may go back for appetizers some time.

The new location does not have the same appeal that the old one had.... Behind the bar it was pretty much a hustle of making drinks for the wait staff...not a lot of attention to the cutomer service at the bar....just making and pushing the drinks, which I get...but it never felt like that at the old spot and the bar just seemed a little more the hub downtown, not the service desk. Inside, loud way loud. Pretty full no need for music over the sound system, just made it that much louder. Hostess very accommodating and gracious. We went outside, outback....much nicer vibe. Wait staff excellent and food still very good....an occasional train didn't distract. There is a small area outside that served as a cigar cigarette lounge, that's a nice feature and although there were 5 guys smoking over there you would never know it, no smell in the air. We didn't feel like we were hustled out from our table after dinner, nor did it seem to be the case anywhere, people were taking there time. Prices were reasonable for food, add your drinks then it get a bit pricey

Had a wonderful evening on the outdoor patio. Great food and service. I especially loved their garlic rapini and pine nut specialty appetizer which came with a side of delicious garlic bread. A garlic lovers dream haha :)

Good food, large portions. Service was great. It was loud but its expected from the crowd, not a bad thing. View of the river is nice. Bathroom was clean, kitchen was visible from my table, the cook was portioning pasta with his bare hands not a glove visible on any of them, and the pizza cook was drinking from a cup from a shelf above the prep table he made the pizza on. They accommodated special requests on the dish to remove anchovies and made buttered noodles for my child. Even though there is no kids menu so that's a plus.

I can’t say enough great things about the staff at Tony D’s. They worked with me to accommodate my very, very large party for the next day. Even when plans changed and my party turned to just a very large party, Nicole, Linda, and Seth rolled with it and made it all work. The food and service was as great as the hospitality. I highly recommend for large (or very large) groups but even if it’s just your family, you can’t go wrong!

This new location is great! The menu has a lot to offer with plenty of modern takes on your Italian American favorites. The dishes felt fresh and unique, yet still familiar which should please any crowd. The portions were surprisingly generous as well. I ordered the Atlantic Cod (fish and chips but Italian style) and was surprised to see three large pieces of fillet on my plate for $28. I would have been happy with a serving half that size, and not the mention he fish was perfectly cooked. The same goes for the pasta and other entrees that I saw at my table as everyone had something to take home. The service was friendly and attentive, although there could have been a little more care with table maintenance as we had some empty glasses on our table most of the night. Our server Sarah was very friendly and personable making great suggestions with the menu. Finally, the decor was very well done and on pace with other restaurants in the area. The space feels fresh, modern, and not stuffy by any means. The Italian influence felt well placed without being a caricature of the culture. We had a great time and look forward to coming back soon.

It had been years since I last went to Tony D's. First, their Italian bread was better than most. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken on the side. There was enough for 2 more meals. I liked it well enough. My husband ordered pan fried cod. It's not often that he orders fish and he had no complaints. Our server whose name was Matt was outstanding. He was personable and was able to answer any questions we had. The only complaint we had was the noise level. You have to speak up in order to be heard.

Hands down the best food I have had! The beef tenderloin was amazing. So tender, juicy and flavorful!! The drinks were just as good. Had the strawberry basil and summer lovin' both so refreshing and delicious.

Food was absolutely fantastic. Service was impeccable. Atmosphere was amazing. The entrance had film, car, music and art memorabilia on the walls which was really cool. Kristin was our server and she was fantastic. I will definitely be coming back.

We had a baby shower for fifty and the food, the service and the atmosphere were all amazing. It was a reasonable price as well. We had beans and greens, chicken cutlets, salad, pasta, cannolis and a mimosa bar. All terrific.

Tony D's always has been a great spot. The food is great the service impeccable and the atmosphere inviting. Our family celebrated a birthday with 13 people and it was great. Everyone left happy!

Good food, excellent staff and very very loud atmosphere. Everyone for the most part enjoyed their dinner, the main courses were the star but the sides were all lackluster. The staff was outstanding, friendly, knowledgable and just all around great to deal with. The only real downside is its just too loud, they need to install some soft material in the ceiling to cut down on the hard sounds bouncing around, when you cannot hear the person across from you its too loud, everyone in our 8 person party had the same issue. Overall a great stop.

This was my first time visiting the new location. I was not disappointed. I loved the food and previous location. Jay has nailed it. The venue and the menu are great, including the bone-in veal parm!

Dined at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and helpful. The host who greeted us was outstanding. Most importantly the food! The food was delicious! Fried artichoke appetizer was the perfect blend of heat with the whipped ricotta. Veal Bracciol was tender and full of flavor. Finally, the red wine by the glass selection was incredible.

Second year in a row visiting Tony Ds while in Rochester for DCA Championships and again they did not disappoint! I went in a party of 14 and they handled our group exceptionally. Our server Christopher was a joy and very patient with us. So thank you for the great wait service. On to the food, the food was really good! I created my own pizza and enjoyed it thoroughly. I also had the best Caesar salad I've ever had in my life highly recommend starting your meal with that. Along with the food the drinks were very tasty and not badly priced. I recommend the Blackberry Mojito or the Georgia Peach Moscoe Mule. The only reason I'm leaving a four star rating is because of the slim menu choices. As an Italian restaurant I was a little thrown off because there weren't any pasta selections, just whatever house special pasta was being made that day. I think adding some classic everyday pasta favorites would be a smart choice. Overall I enjoyed both of my visits to Tony Ds and plan to stop in at least once any time I take a trip to Rochester from NC. 😊❤️

The food was good. Atmosphere great. Service excellent. I take exception to a charge on the bill. One of our meals was a pizza which tasted great. However, we felt it was a little dry so we asked for a side of sauce AFTER the meal was delivered and sampled. We were charged $2.00 for this side. It was probably less than 1/4 cup and it was a pizza entree. We spent over $200 that night for 4 of us. I don't complain about the overall cost. It's just the point of the $2.00 charge. It wasn't an extra topping or an extra side as far as I'm concerned. It was a request based on the condition of the meal I feel. Overall? I'll probably go back again. Still a little ticked off with, what I consider, a senseless charge.

Shay was our server and she was excellent! She made our stay very welcoming and was very helpful going over the menu and answering our questions. The food was top notch and I can't wait to go back again! Well done!

Went here last night with some coworkers and an out of town guest for a business dinner. Absolutely fabulous!!! Awesome Greens and Beans and the filet was to die for. We followed it up with sharing a slice of their lemon cake and a house cannoli. Definitely going to be going back. Thank you for the excellent meal! Our server, Henry, was also great!

I wanted to thank Tony D’s for an amazing night last night. We had 17 people at the table, mostly 7th grade girls, celebrating my daughters 13th birthday. I used to frequent here pretty often but lost a little touch after they reopened. Things are better than ever. Zack was a tremendous server and was just awesome with the kids. They devoured the pizzas that were brought to them. My other daughter and I had the Penne ala Vodka which was one of the best I ever had. My wife has Chilean Sea Bass special which was, in a word, outstanding. I was very happy to see more entree options on the menu now. Much thanks to Jay and the staff for making my daughters birthday dinner an absolute blast. We will be back much sooner than later.

Everything was fantastic! Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and amazing food. One of my top new favs in Rochester and definitely a place I'll bring my family and friends from out of town to so they see some of the excellence Rochester has to offer.

It's still our place to hang out on Thursdays despite Tony and Chris not being with us anymore you have to bring back, some positive energy into the bar as most of the regulars don't come there anymore, also it would be nice to see a picture of each of them in the bar

Beans & greens were AWESOME and that was the appetizer (?!?!?!)! I had that and the 10 ounce crusted steak with roasted potatoes and sautéed spinach with garlic/olive oil! Took home the best leftovers! Worth EVERY bite, and penny! Service was fairly prompt (real busy), and we had a great time with our waitress! Would go again!!

I got a beautiful bottle of Brunello recommended by Kenny. The pizza was delicious. Daniella provided great service at the bar. I was in town visiting and would have gone back Monday if they were open!

Food was excellent as always. They do have an odd new policy on bread. They don't bring it to your table it is upon request. If you don't know to ask you don't get any. Would be more helpful if your server asked if you would like some bread for the table.

Warm, friendly and attentive staff, fantastic food & wine. Sat at the Chefs counter, a very fun night.

Love the olive salad! Always have... greens and beans are the best! Meatballs and chicken wings, none the better anywhere... great night, great service!
