Love the atmosphere and staff. Modern, upscale decor throughout without compromising comfort. Digital menu is a nice touch. Bar selections offer a great array of liquors. Food is delicious. Portions are plentiful and presentation shows great attention to detail. Great for lunch or dinner.

Great fresh sushi! The atmosphere is a cozy relaxing place of comfort. They take the time to make every dish look as wonderful as it taste. I am amazed that this type of restaurant is in the Roanoke valley!!! Great food; great find!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I have only been in this area for about a year and have been in search of a sushi place good enough to become a regular ever since my move. I have tried numerous places from Roanoke to Lynchburg and finally have found Formosa to be my place! The prices are a little high especially when seen for the first time but the whole way through my meal everything proved to be completely worth it, definitely the best sushi by a long shot! The staff were also very nice and quick to help make a suggestion for first timers, I really can't say enough how pleased I am with this place.

This is easily the best sushi in Roanoke. The atmosphere is awesome and they take extra care with the presentation. Yes, it is a touch pricey, however it is worth it. One special roll was enough food for me so take that into account. Definitely try it for yourself at least once!

This sushi simply put every other sushi experience I've ever had to shame. Let me tell you, even the rice was incredible. THE RICE! No one cares about the rice, until you taste it here. Honestly, it's hard to eat other sushi now because it seems mediocre. Not only is the food stellar, bu the people there are absolutely incredible, too. We thought it was open later than it was, so we got there after they had closed. However, they ushered us in and gave us the best experience. Our server (I believe he was the owner) was the nicest man, very patient as we asked him a hundred questions about the menu. Honestly, the sushi seemed pricey at first, but it's really not even that much more expensive than your typical sushi restaurant. Worth every penny we spent. We ordered a shrimp appetizer to start, I ordered the sushi regular for my meal (Cali roll, nigiri, soup, & salad), and he ordered a special roll. It was about $50 for everything, and we both left very full and so incredibly happy with the quality. It's been 2 weeks and I'm still thinking about it.

Seriously the best sushi I've ever had (and I've had a lot.) the owner and his family are so nice, and everything is neatly prepared. Comes out looking like a masterpiece. The volcano and rainbow rolls are my FAVORITE. And the spicy Kani salad, omg so delicious.

This is the best sushi place we have ever been- and I went with an Asian guy who also loved it!! I had the Rock Shrimp for an appitizer and ended up having it as my entree too, along with the fantastic seaweed salad. So delicious!!! My Asian love had sushi sashimi tombo - an exotic beautifully displayed assortment of sushi- lighted with LED lights!!! Beautiful!!!

All the extracurricular aspects of Formosa make it a nice place - but I wasn't impressed with the food or the prices. They have a nice selection of lunch dishes with different choices for sushi or cooked dishes like rice or noodles. I decided to have the Sushi Special with miso soup. The sushi special is a six-piece California roll and 4 pieces of nigiri that are selected by the chef - my four pieces were tuna, albacore tuna, flounder, and salmon. The soup that came out before the entree was good - served hot with plenty of flavor and not too salty, which can be a problem with miso soup. However, the sushi was a disappointment. The California roll lacked flavor because the crab meat in the roll tasted very pedestrian. The pieces of nigiri were very small and the rice began to crumble apart as soon as I would pick up a piece. Overall, the entire plate of food was small. The flavors were okay, but I found myself thinking, "that's it?" after I finished.
