My experience at the Red Rooster was without question a negative one, but what made it especially infuriating was that it would be SO easy to fix some of these problems - so easy, you wonder why it wasn't done before I walked in the door.
I came here with my mom for dinner this week. This is a place we often pass on the way to downtown Ridgefield for lunch, and from outside it looks like a more upscale eatery that would have a great Sunday brunch. I was surprised when I looked at the website and realized it was more mainstream/blue collar, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does make me wonder why they ultimately went in that direction when they had such a gorgeous building to play around with.
They've clearly spent a lot of time and money on the interior, to great effect. It has a rustic farmhouse/stable vibe with wood everywhere. Some of the partitions have metal bars, so it kind of feels like you're in an Old West jail (but you're not unhappy about it). My mother, who is super particular about her dining experiences and has had to suffer through a lot of hipster gastropubs outside of her comfort zone, was enchanted. I've never actually seen her get up from her table to walk around and look at the decor. She was especially taken with the giant clocks. For Red Rooster's sake, hopefully she writes a review to counter mine, because she had a great time here and plans to come back.
I had an ominous feeling when I sat down in my chair...and immediately felt a stinging pain in my hand. A quick inspection confirmed that there was a sharp object slightly protruding from the edge of the seat, which was noticeably stained and worn down. At that point I absolutely should have just switched seats but figured I'd just avoid that edge. I of course forgot about it 20 minutes later and was stabbed again. The second stabbing is on me. At the end of the meal, I did bring it to the waiter's attention, who thanked me and said they'd look into it. I've attached a picture of the chair here, and you can see that it should have been replaced a while ago. Again, an easy fix that should have been rectified before a customer almost drew blood, especially since it's so noticeable. If you have the financial resources to open multiple locations (they have restaurants in Wilton and Newtown as well), you should be able to spring for freshly upholstered chairs.
For my entree, I ordered the elk burger. It wasn't very good. This particular piece of meat had literal pockets of grease in it, where you'd bite into the burger and you'd get sprayed with grease, almost like popping a pimple (I know. I was grossed out too.) It didn't take long for the bottom of the bun to be completely soaked with the grease as well. Most of us have made a burger before and know to squeeze out the grease during the cooking process. Again, an easy fix. My mom got a pesto tortellini dish with shrimp. She of course loved it and would order it again in a heartbeat. It's stunning that this person was sitting two feet away from me and somehow ate at a completely different restaurant.
After we'd ordered the entrees, I belatedly decided to get a cocktail. We didn't have the menus anymore, so I went to the restaurant's website on my phone and located a drink called the Part Time Lover, which featured tequila and aperol. Two minutes after I ordered it, the waiter came back sheepishly and said that drink hadn't been on their menu for several months. Not a huge deal, but the idea that this restaurant didn't get around to updating their online menu is a bit concerning. And - for the third and final time - an easy fix. That seemed like a sign to stay stone cold sober, which I did.
The service was perfectly fine - the issues I experienced had nothing to do with our waiter, who did a solid job, and the food did come out pretty quickly. Frankly, it was the only saving grace, in my opinion.
I don't know how to magically teleport myself to the restaurant my mother ended up eating at, but that's probably the only way I'd come back here.

Pricey, but interesting food. Ordered the elk burger and a Mediterranean salad. Both tasted excellent. Ordered Bellinis and were given mimosas. Our waitress was happy to fix the mistake when I pointed it out to her.

A laid back atmosphere.
Very old barn style meets industrial. Food was really good and the menu is reasonably priced with an excellent selection. They have booth and table seating as well as the bar. Nice place to bring the family. I saw elderly people to toddlers here and everyone seemed happy. Wait staff was great too!

Very unique looking place, great drinks, amazing food, outdoor seating, cozy place. I think it’s even better than the new town location. Empanadas and mashed potato pizza are some of my favs
Highly recommend coming here, even if it’s out of your way.

If give 0 stars if I could. I went in this past Saturday afternoon to make a reservation for Sunday (the next day) at 1pm for 4ppl. The host person initially told me that they only take reservations for 5+ people, but then said he would take ours. Wonderful. I asked if it was possible to have a booth in the middle of the bar area so my nephew could watch the games on the televisions (our reason for wanting the bar area). We did not want to sit in the dining room. He said booth numbers 3 or 4 were right in the middle. Great. Very appreciative. He put us in the reservation book. We arrived at 1pm on Sunday. A different man at the host desk immediately began to take us to the (empty) dining room. I told him we had a reservation for 4ppl in the bar. He said he hadn't looked at the reservation book, didn't know where it was, and made no attempt to find it. Not only were booths #3 and #4 not available, but NO BOOTHS were available and NOTHING had been held for us. He again offered to seat us in the completely empty dining room, as that "was all he had". We declined and left. Very disappointed. Too many other good places in town to bother with them again. Clearly didn't want our business.

Charming old house converting into lively pub. Wonderful staff and delicious food. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and amazing - also the best fried Brussels sprouts I’ve ever had. Great place to watch the game too. Highly recommended!

This place went above and beyond for my son's rehearsal dinner! I had such a hard time finding somewhere in Ridgefield with availability that was not over the top expensive($235 a person without apps or alcohol). On a whim I called the Red Rooster PUB and I am so so glad I did! They were very accommodating from the start of that first phone call. They assured me they had an area that could fit my 30 guests away from the other restaurant guests. The space was perfect! They had it beautifully set up when we arrived with appetizers for my guest. They were very attentive with the bar orders and the service was extremely quick, Diana and Cord were assigned to us and they did not disappoint. We allowed our guest to order whatever they wanted from the menu and again, the service was so quick. Everyone had their food together and it was delicious. As a wedding planner in another state, I get to visit many restaurants for rehearsal dinners and catering for weddings. I have to say that I was taken back at how well run this restaurant was and what an amazing job was done on the food and service. I give them a 5++++! Thank you so much for making a stressful situation turn into a wonderful night to remember.
