My 78 year old mom LOVES the catfish from this place. She has to be really careful when eating fish due to the bones (Sugar's catfish has very few, if any bones) & she really enjoys the flavor! One request...please bring back the catfish bites!😊 She really enjoyed those! And the whiting is pretty good too. My daughters & husband enjoys the shrimp.🐟

This week was only my fourth visit to purchase fried whiting. The service here is great the fish is excellent and the prices are reasonable. I got a three piece fish with two slices of butter bread for my auntie the cost was $9 plus tax. They also serve fried catfish

The fish and mac were delish. The salmon cakes were salty. It seems like canned salmon was used and the bones were left in and not manipulated enough to not be noticeable. I am not a fan of eating the bones and remove them when I make it myself. There wasn't enough binder either. I don't know if it was because the salmon cakes sat on it, but, the toast was a little salty. I would go back but avoid the salmon patties and maybe toast.

Visiting family in Richmond, Sugar’s was top on our list. We ordered fried soft shell crab, soft shell crab sandwich, oysters, catfish sandwich, catfish salad and cornbread. Everything was delicious. The wait on a 90 degree evening was appropriately long, with good music and other customers with whom to share what we ordered and kvetch about the heat. Took home to enjoy with Richmond beer. We’ll be back!

First time visit was this past Friday. The wait was a bit long because they were changing to evening shift. The food was well worth the wait. It’s as good as it looks. The pictures are accurate. They are pleasant and friendly. Everyone in line patiently waited while enjoying the music and smelling fresh fried fish.

We ordered a salmon cake sandwich, and the family fish meal. Always a line when we drive by, but it was worth the wait. Sorry they'd run out of potato salad. Great overall!!

Sugar's fried catfish and trout were perfectly done. They did not have soft shell crabs on this trip darn it. As elsewhere, prices have gone up, but Sugar's is still a very good value.

What's not to love. I'm from the southside of Chicago and this felt like home. The food is excellent, the people are awesome...service was actually quicker than I expected. I'll be back. And if you try this stop, you will not be disappointed. Relax and enjoy. Folks are just out to enjoy some good fish, beanpie, bread pudding, and cobbler! 👍🏽👍🏽

We were not sure what to expect...but, boy, we were so glad to have found this place. Went on a beautiful sunny afternoon after a morning full of drizzle. We were moving to Richmond and had spent all morning unloading a uhaul. We had to wait a line of folks all wanting the same thing, seafood. We placed our order and found sunny table where we waited, and waited, anticipated, and waited. It was a bit of a wait, so be ready for that, but so so worth it. Fish was great, okra was great, shrimp was great! It was all pretty good. The okra...man loved the flavor of the breading. This is not a quick order, order, on your way kinda place. You go hear to struggle for what to order off the menu, for the anticipation of waiting for your food, for sitting and enjoying the company of the friends that you are sharing this adventure with. Will definitely be going back.
