I stopped by for the first time today and my experience was so personal and extraordinary. I had the privilege of meeting the owner Barbara. I walked in with the goal of getting a quick lunch and opted for the white chili and cornbread, which was outstanding! While waiting for my chili, I mentioned to Barbara that one of these days I will have to try their gelato. She then took the time to showcase samples of several of their options and YUM! I will be back. This place is a real gem. I highly recommend checking it out.
Hope my Richmond area friends will eat at Stoplight. After 2 visits I plan to be a regular whenever I'm in town. Last night Chef Barbara greeted me personally. When I reached out to shake her hand, she "elbow bumped" instead because she was wearing gloves for handling food. I followed her recommendation to eat potato soup and the Mozzarella-Pesto sandwich topped with sliced chicken. Both were truly gourmet and delicious. The gelato is made on-site while you dine. The "gelato chef" is also a Computer Science major at VCU. He loves his job because "I enjoy seeing the expressions on peoples faces when they eat the gelato I created." Needless to say, the gelato was outstanding. The café and restrooms are immaculate! You are missing a treat if you don't go to the Stoplight Gelato Café.
The gelato is excellent with a bunch of odd, but amazing flavors constantly being created and added to the case. They will let you try them all too! The coffee is good and the food is good as well, though the food can take a while (cause it's made fresh).
The atmosphere is cute and homey, and very welcoming. I adore this place and hope it remains a Richmond fixture!
This place not only makes the best gelato I have ever had in the United States (I’ve traveled through Italy and France, trust me I know what GREAT gelato tastes like!!!), but the owners are very active in the work to support their immediate community. Stellar quality of food paired with excellent human beings = 5 stars don’t do this business justice. ˚✩‧₊✶*¸.✫ Thank you SLG !!
Such a great spot for lunch or a sweet treat. The owner and staff are the friendliest, most genuine people, and the gelato flavors are incredible. Pictured is their limited edition unicorn gelato, which tasted like birthday cake!!!
Never met an 80 yr old restaurant owner until now. Barbara not only served our group some great gelato but then told her story on why she decided to start a business in her 80s.

The woman who runs this place is truly inspirational. She is caring and honest and so hardworking! She made sure my sandwhich was fresh and just how I wanted it. Their Gelato flavors are fantastic- there is a great variation of flavors to chose from, as well as non-dairy options! Awesome spot that deserves all the support the Jackson Ward neighborhood has to offer.

I love this Gelato place. So many different flavors, great #vegan options... My favorites are pistachio, lemon basil and strawberry basil. Ms. Barbara(the owner) is almost always there and her puppy is adorable.
My wife and I were very first customers on the opening day of their new business. The staff were very friendly and gave us tastings of their flavors which were extremely delicious! We felt welcome and so comfortable and just enjoyed our time together! If you want some delicious Gelato & want to be Happy & Relaxed, go to The Stoplight Gelato Cafe !! I LOVE THIS PLACE. Literally the cutest, happiest place in Richmond. Barbara and her staff are the absolute best, Lola (her puppy, who has permission from the health board to be in the store front) happily greets guest during the weekend, and the ice cream is SO good! Made with tons of love.
The place has a lot of character and charm. There are a plethora of choices gelato. Oh and you can try as many as you like. And there are some unusual flavors. For instance I had a raisin balsamic. It was absolutely delicious. The people were very nice. Our daughter lives around the corner. This will become a tradition when we go to visit her.
