Review Pho Tay Do - Richmond

Justin Nguyen-Le
Best pho I've had so far in Richmond. The server was awesome. Vietnamese coffee was also the best I've had so far in Richmond. I rarely ever come to a pho restaurant and not add any hoison sauce or Sriracha. The broth was perfectly flavored. Nice, hot, savory and balanced. Noodles were overcooked a bit, but the broth made up for it.

What an absolute gem of a restaurant!!! The service was incredible (just remember to bring cash- the 7Eleven around the corner has got you covered if you’re low.) and the food was amazing! We especially loved the papaya salad with beef and our pho which was rich and complex. Perfect for a date paired with an adventure at the ice rink :) couldn’t recommend enough.

Bún riêu (sour crab noodle soup) and papaya salad are tasty. Cash only. Recommend this place. 👍

5/5 - highly recommend eating here at least once. Let me start by saying that the 5-star atmosphere is not an indication of this being a michelin star rated restaurant. But it is an authentic, small, cash only, family-run place with hand-made decorations and TONS polaroids of customers (which have their own story). Combined with amazing food and service makes the atmosphere 5/5 perfect for the restaurants in the US where you tend to find the best Asian flavors. Go here and you'll understand. Pho Tay Do does not disappoint on any measure! The Pho is the star here and rightfully so. The broth is well balanced, savory and delicious but will not overpower the additional ingredients you add. The options are all amazing, and if you are new to Pho you can keep it simple with brisket or a round-eye cut (Pho Tai, #15, was fantastic!). If you eat a lot of Pho, get the #1- it is hard to beat. Like so much of the world's best food it is packed with ingredients that are considered the "junk" parts of animals (e.g. tripe). But they are used masterfully, and combine to make Richmond's best Pho! The egg rolls and fried rice were also great, and if someone is not up for soup they will find things on the menu to eat that are also good. But please try the Pho! P.S. parking is in the very small lot on or the street, so it is somewhat limited.

Extremely pleased with my experience at Pho Tay Do. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. The establishment was clean during my visit from the restroom to the kitchen (which I could see from my table). The guy working the waiting area was very nice, you can tell that he remembers the regulars. I'll definitely be back.

Friendly service, amazing food, and very reasonable price! Egg rolls are so good The traditional Vietnam coffee is so special! The only thing need to be prepared is CASH! They only take cash!

If you haven’t been here… go now! One of the best experiences I have had in RVA. Move over Olive garden because when you’re at pho tay do you truly are home. Owner Denzil and his staff go to every effort to make sure you are taken care of with one of most the positive environments ever. Don’t forget your cash as it’s cash only and beware the chili oil as it bites back!

Cash Only Restrooms available Limited Free public parking Group Friendly Family friendly Limited Space Vietnamese food/Cuisine A local favorite, Pho Tay Do is a family operated business in a small house, and on a small lot. Converted into a restaurant this place has a waiting list that keep customers gravitating to this area. Menu items are plentiful and very authentic. The vietnamese food are made fresh to order. Patience is key since they operate inside a small kitchen. Staff here are very attentative and friendly, I give them props for the Lunch Time rush. Overall a hidden gem and a one of kind Vietnamese restaurant located in Richmond, VA.

Dropping by Richmond area, found the place through google review. It’s at less busy street, looks like a normal house. Not fancy but very friendly environment. The service is great and they offer unique menu. We had green papaya salad, shrimp rolls and pho. The appetizers are ok, not super impressive nor bad. I like the broth of pho, almost perfect and the best broth I’ve ever had in US. Noodle was a bit over cooked though. Majority of the customers look Local.

Pho was great, very tasty broth that had me drinking from the bowl by the end. After seeing the fried spring rolls the table next to ordered, I know I made a mistake by not getting some. Finished off our meal with Vietnamese cold brew with condensed milk that hit the spot after the warm pho. Service was incredible. Our waiter made us feel like old friends and kept things moving smoothly in the small dining room. Cash only and bring extra because your going to want to leave a big tip.

Got shrimp rolls, and brisket/ eye of round pho. The broth is some of the best pho broth I've tasted. Loads of flavor, and really don't have to add stuff to it and you'll still think it's amazing. But I added Sriracha, hoison sauce, and they had some house made chili oil with one other sauce (not sure what it was made of but I dove it and loved all of it lol) You'll have to be patient and more than likely wait. But the food is exceptional

Customer service amazing!!! The meat here is tender and flavorful. The broth is top-tier.

A great cash only place, always a delicious bowl and great appetizer options. The staff is always so friendly and makes you feel really attended to.

Fresh and delicious vietnamese food. The decor is a little eclectic and the staff is friendly, helpful, and quick. The food is packed with flavor and presented well. There are chopsticks at every table and you will have to ask for silverware. This place only accepts cash so make sure you plan accordingly.

Just went to eat here. It was really good!! I got the pho ga and everything was excellent! The broth, noodles, and the chicken was really good. Would definitely come again.

There wasn't much meat or vegetables, but the broth was thick and refreshing. Highly recommended!!!^^

The restaurant is really cute inside and was packed when we went, lots of locals go for lunch I think. Food was amazing and super affordable!

Looks like a dive but the food is quite opposite. They need to be featured on the show DDD's. Authentic fresh delicious food. Family run and casual atmosphere. A must return asap!!

The best Pho I have ever had! Very nice staff. I will definitely be back!

Family owned, always treated like family! Best Pho ever made by the best people ever! Bring cash!

The best place to get pho, I've been going there since about 1995 with my pops.
Jon Felton
Cool little spot with the best/most consistent pho and noodle bowls in RVA!
Christina Garnett
This place is the best! We love the family and the Phö! We go religiously.

It’s the best place for a traditional ‘Pho’ in Richmond. The bone broth that defines a ‘pho’ , is just right. People tend to comment on the bean sprouts, basil leaves, etc , which is ancillary. Pho Ty Do has the base ( the bone broth) just right

Absolutely the best pho anywhere. Great friendly service.
Rock Higgins
Best Pho in town. Trust me. Little hole in the wall, mom and pop restaurant. Only take cash, so come prepared. Cheap. Good. Never had anything bad there. Worth the hunt to find it.

Love Pho TayDo! Always great service and great food!!

Best in town! Our favorite place for Pho. Small, family owned and absolutely perfectly prepared.

Some of the best Pho I have ever had!!! Legit place

Best Chicken Noodle in RVA!!!! I wish they took cards! Other than that, it was very good!
Billy Crum
Delicious pho and a great family owned restaurant!
Stephen Sepe
A hidden gem! Wish they took CC instead of cash only.

Broth can be a deal breaker for me on Pho. This establishment understands how to balance a nice broth. I wish I had the secret (hint, hint).

I've tried them all and keep coming back here, it's the best!

I LOVE Vietnamese food and this is the best in Richmond by far. The Pho is phantastic!! The rice paper rolls with bbq pork are also divine!. The place is quaint and service is friendly and efficient. They only take cash so come prepared. But the prices are very affordable so enjoy! Don't let the location and exterior scare you off.

I have nothing but positives to say about this place. The Pho broth was the best I've had, and we know it's all about the broth. This seems to be a neighborhood restaurant so they have to succeed by cooking what their neighbors will want. They also keep the prices very reasonable. My wife and I had a filling meal for $13 including tip. There was no problem with service or friendliness. I would definitely go again.

The best Pho ever!!!!!. I love....this place so much. The service is always fantastic and the Pho, is the best I have tasted in Richmond. I can say that once you eat here you won't want to go anywhere else, the other places really don't compare. Yummy, yummy, yummy!!!!!

Do you want my business?. I've been to this place many times and now I have to rant. I normally do this with the restaurant but social media is my only way to converse with the owners after complaining.

The people who own/work here could care less about you or is it just the caucasians? To just get to the point, they are rude and could care less about you. I don't like any chain restaurants but these guys could go for a field trip to a nice local place an learn what restaurant hospitality is,

I don't want to give a dime to this place again and I'm feeling the same thing about Pho So 1. Both act like they are doing you a favor. I'll give my money to others, I've already given enough to An!

So amazing!! The broth could stand alone. It's the most flavorful pho Ive ever had. We've eaten at many Vietnamese restaurants all over the US and I have to say this is one of the best! The decor and atmosphere are very unique and not at all representative of the quality of food but the staff are very kind and the place is clean!

Fresh and delicious. Frequenting this restaurant, especially since a return from travel in Southeast Asia. Their papaya salad is the best in town and all of their dishes are freshly prepared. Please note, they only take cash.

3 weeks and three different pho resturants. Pho Tay Do is hands down the best of the three I've had. Get the fried spring rolls for sure. Best tasting pho I've had so far. Quaint atomoshere and decent service. There were two draw backs though. Pho Tay Do is a small resturaunt and by consequence they have forgone getting a liquor liscence (a good Ipa would compliment the spice wonderfully). The other is contradictory to the fact I love the quaint atmosphere. Since it is so small you can hear almost everything. Which isn't too bad unless the everything is a loud
Screaming kid who's parents don't seem to care about( not the business owners fault)

Best pho I've had in my early adventures. Great cheap date. Also please tip your servers a minimum of 20% no matter where you go. Unless they are rude. Thankless low paying job. I digress.

4 and 1/2 out of 5

Pho was great! Spring rolls were very fresh. Dipping sauce tasted like pure fish sauce which was disappointing. Restaurant located in old residential neighborhood turned business district which is a little weird. All considering I would return for the Pho.

Blue House. This place is also known as "blue house", and is known for the weirder meats you can't always get at a typical vietnamese place. Very quirky place as others have said, and well worth a visit if you like vietnamese and don't mind an odd location. Cash only!

Try this pho several times...not that tasty. OK at best, wished it was better because I like to patronize the small "mom & pop" shop...they simply miss the mark.

Good food in a delightfully quirky atmosphere. Located on Horsepen - behind Full Kee, behind Pho So 1 - is this unique Richmond gem.
I'll confess, from the outside I wasn't exactly sure it was a restaurant. But the sign said Pho and Open, so in I went. On every wall were murals and artwork done by the owner. Many showed expected Vietnamese themes, but many featured alluring women, and there were some unexpected outliers such as the as yet unfinished Garden of Eden (I really can't wait to see the completed work). By this point, I am sold. This place already has me hooked with its quirky ambiance.
The waitress was (and is) a delightfully charming woman who seems genuinely pleased to greet you, and she is pleased to guide one through some of the more exotic and unfamiliar choices (there is more than just pho).
There are a considerable number of places that specialize in pho in Richmond (apart from those that just offer pho among their other entrees). I rank Pho Tay Do at the top. The broth I find to have a more aromatic anise flare than most, and the quality of the ingredients is always spot on. The vermicelli and broken rice dishes are also quite good, though my experience has mostly focused on the pho.
This has become one of my three favorite places in Richmond. It's a rare find, and I heartily recommend it.

This is a mom and pop shop with authentic Vietnamese food. Small dining area which means quicker service. Prices are awesome compared to Mekong and pho so 1 those restaurants that cater to the untrained pallet and have horrible customer service particularly pho so 1. If you want authentic, cheap, and great service go to pho Tay do.
