Looks like a dive but the food is quite opposite. They need to be featured on the show DDD's. Authentic fresh delicious food. Family run and casual atmosphere. A must return asap!!
The best Pho I have ever had! Very nice staff. I will definitely be back!
I LOVE Vietnamese food and this is the best in Richmond by far. The Pho is phantastic!! The rice paper rolls with bbq pork are also divine!. The place is quaint and service is friendly and efficient. They only take cash so come prepared. But the prices are very affordable so enjoy! Don't let the location and exterior scare you off.
I have nothing but positives to say about this place. The Pho broth was the best I've had, and we know it's all about the broth. This seems to be a neighborhood restaurant so they have to succeed by cooking what their neighbors will want. They also keep the prices very reasonable. My wife and I had a filling meal for $13 including tip. There was no problem with service or friendliness. I would definitely go again.

So amazing!! The broth could stand alone. It's the most flavorful pho Ive ever had. We've eaten at many Vietnamese restaurants all over the US and I have to say this is one of the best! The decor and atmosphere are very unique and not at all representative of the quality of food but the staff are very kind and the place is clean!
Fresh and delicious. Frequenting this restaurant, especially since a return from travel in Southeast Asia. Their papaya salad is the best in town and all of their dishes are freshly prepared. Please note, they only take cash.
3 weeks and three different pho resturants. Pho Tay Do is hands down the best of the three I've had. Get the fried spring rolls for sure. Best tasting pho I've had so far. Quaint atomoshere and decent service. There were two draw backs though. Pho Tay Do is a small resturaunt and by consequence they have forgone getting a liquor liscence (a good Ipa would compliment the spice wonderfully). The other is contradictory to the fact I love the quaint atmosphere. Since it is so small you can hear almost everything. Which isn't too bad unless the everything is a loud
Screaming kid who's parents don't seem to care about( not the business owners fault)
Best pho I've had in my early adventures. Great cheap date. Also please tip your servers a minimum of 20% no matter where you go. Unless they are rude. Thankless low paying job. I digress.
4 and 1/2 out of 5
Blue House. This place is also known as "blue house", and is known for the weirder meats you can't always get at a typical vietnamese place. Very quirky place as others have said, and well worth a visit if you like vietnamese and don't mind an odd location. Cash only!
Good food in a delightfully quirky atmosphere. Located on Horsepen - behind Full Kee, behind Pho So 1 - is this unique Richmond gem.
I'll confess, from the outside I wasn't exactly sure it was a restaurant. But the sign said Pho and Open, so in I went. On every wall were murals and artwork done by the owner. Many showed expected Vietnamese themes, but many featured alluring women, and there were some unexpected outliers such as the as yet unfinished Garden of Eden (I really can't wait to see the completed work). By this point, I am sold. This place already has me hooked with its quirky ambiance.
The waitress was (and is) a delightfully charming woman who seems genuinely pleased to greet you, and she is pleased to guide one through some of the more exotic and unfamiliar choices (there is more than just pho).
There are a considerable number of places that specialize in pho in Richmond (apart from those that just offer pho among their other entrees). I rank Pho Tay Do at the top. The broth I find to have a more aromatic anise flare than most, and the quality of the ingredients is always spot on. The vermicelli and broken rice dishes are also quite good, though my experience has mostly focused on the pho.
This has become one of my three favorite places in Richmond. It's a rare find, and I heartily recommend it.
Best pho I've had so far in Richmond. The server was awesome. Vietnamese coffee was also the best I've had so far in Richmond. I rarely ever come to a pho restaurant and not add any hoison sauce or Sriracha. The broth was perfectly flavored. Nice, hot, savory and balanced. Noodles were overcooked a bit, but the broth made up for it.
What an absolute gem of a restaurant!!! The service was incredible (just remember to bring cash- the 7Eleven around the corner has got you covered if you’re low.) and the food was amazing! We especially loved the papaya salad with beef and our pho which was rich and complex. Perfect for a date paired with an adventure at the ice rink :) couldn’t recommend enough.
Bún riêu (sour crab noodle soup) and papaya salad are tasty. Cash only. Recommend this place. 👍
5/5 - highly recommend eating here at least once. Let me start by saying that the 5-star atmosphere is not an indication of this being a michelin star rated restaurant. But it is an authentic, small, cash only, family-run place with hand-made decorations and TONS polaroids of customers (which have their own story). Combined with amazing food and service makes the atmosphere 5/5 perfect for the restaurants in the US where you tend to find the best Asian flavors. Go here and you'll understand.
Pho Tay Do does not disappoint on any measure! The Pho is the star here and rightfully so. The broth is well balanced, savory and delicious but will not overpower the additional ingredients you add. The options are all amazing, and if you are new to Pho you can keep it simple with brisket or a round-eye cut (Pho Tai, #15, was fantastic!). If you eat a lot of Pho, get the #1- it is hard to beat. Like so much of the world's best food it is packed with ingredients that are considered the "junk" parts of animals (e.g. tripe). But they are used masterfully, and combine to make Richmond's best Pho!
The egg rolls and fried rice were also great, and if someone is not up for soup they will find things on the menu to eat that are also good. But please try the Pho!
P.S. parking is in the very small lot on or the street, so it is somewhat limited.
Extremely pleased with my experience at Pho Tay Do. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. The establishment was clean during my visit from the restroom to the kitchen (which I could see from my table). The guy working the waiting area was very nice, you can tell that he remembers the regulars. I'll definitely be back.
Friendly service, amazing food, and very reasonable price!
Egg rolls are so good
The traditional Vietnam coffee is so special!
The only thing need to be prepared is CASH! They only take cash!
If you haven’t been here… go now! One of the best experiences I have had in RVA. Move over Olive garden because when you’re at pho tay do you truly are home. Owner Denzil and his staff go to every effort to make sure you are taken care of with one of most the positive environments ever. Don’t forget your cash as it’s cash only and beware the chili oil as it bites back!

A local favorite, Pho Tay Do is a family operated business in a small house, and on a small lot. Converted into a restaurant this place has a waiting list that keep customers gravitating to this area.
Menu items are plentiful and very authentic. The vietnamese food are made fresh to order. Patience is key since they operate inside a small kitchen. Staff here are very attentative and friendly, I give them props for the Lunch Time rush.
Overall a hidden gem and a one of kind Vietnamese restaurant located in Richmond, VA.
Went for the first time today. I had the pho Ga it was amazing and very tasteful. The service was impeccable.
Dropping by Richmond area, found the place through google review. It’s at less busy street, looks like a normal house. Not fancy but very friendly environment. The service is great and they offer unique menu. We had green papaya salad, shrimp rolls and pho.
The appetizers are ok, not super impressive nor bad. I like the broth of pho, almost perfect and the best broth I’ve ever had in US. Noodle was a bit over cooked though.
Majority of the customers look Local.
