Never had puposas prior to today but they are amazing! Carne Asada tacos are the best I've had. The beef tomales are large and tasty. My wife had three enchiladas. One beef, one pork and one cheese. She loved them (and she's a picky eater). Rice and beans are authentic. Service was promo and friendly. An outstanding place to eat!!

Outstanding. I second the previous poster's recommendation. The revueltas pupusas are amazing, and the platanos fritos are a great accompaniment. Friendly environment and good service.

The most delicious pupusas. I can't really comment on the Mexican side of their menu, as I never order from it, but the Salvadorean portion is delicious. The revueltas and queso pupusas are amazing and super cheap—about two dollars each, and two of them is more than enough to fill me. Cheap meal right there. But I'm never content with that; I always have to order the platanos fritos too, because they are so worth it. That right there is a perfect meal.

Better Sal than Mex. Crowded place, even later at night.

I tried a bit of Mex - asada and carnitas tacos - and a bit of Sal - pupusa revuelta.

The tacos were quite big. The asada had a large slab of avocado, which was nice, but it was fairly bland. The carnitas came with a generous blob of guac, and had a bit more flavor, but was still pretty average.

The pupusa was outstanding, though. Creamy, salty, funky, and a bit crispy where some cheese had oozed out onto the griddle, with the cabbage slaw and thin salsa providing a perfect crunch and tang. Great stuff.

Great Lunch. Friendly, good service, delicious food -- everything I've tried has been good. I'm partial to the #32 lunch special -- chili relleno, chicken enchilada, rice and beans and drink for less than 6 bucks, can't beat it. Papusas are wonderful too. Highly recommended -- I have eaten here pretty much every week for the past year+

Having been to El Salvador and eaten authentic pupusas, I have to say that Mexsal's pupusas have an authentic and delicious taste! Perhaps the only place in Utah county to eat 'real' pupusas.

Home cooked and authentic. Most of the customers were Latin American - I was one of the only gringos, and realy, I'm not even that much of a gringo...

Don't let the location scare you. Thanks to a recommendation from a reviewer here on Urbanspoon, I tried the pupusas. I only wish I would have ordered more. You'll definitely want to add them to your order. Very friendly waitstaff, although a little slow. Great food, and you can't beat the $5.50 lunch specials that come with a drink. The location in a south Provo strip mall might scare away a few, but the restaurant itself was very clean, and I saw at least four Provo police officers separately stop by to pick up their food order.

Pupusas. So...my friend recommended this little restaurant for lunch but only if I got the pupusas...which I did and I was not sorry. One pupusa will only set you back about $1.95 and they are filling and delicious. Its basically meat, cheese, and beans sandwiched between 2 corn tortillas. Then you top it with salsa and some type of coleslaw. They are delicious! Loved it and recommend it!

10 out of 10. Excellent authentic food. The free homemade chips and salsa were awesome. The service was good and fast.

Note: We had trouble keeping our 1 year old in the high chair because there was no lap belt. So if you plan on bringing a wild little one think about throwing in a belt.

When it comes to Mexican food, I’m a pretty picky person. This is one of those rare little gems with both Mexican food and El Salvadoran eats with both quality and quantity. Everything that my family had tasted amazing. Even the rice and beans, which at most places is downright disappointing, were packed full of flavor. The star of the show for all of us or the Pupusas. El Mexsal is now our go to restaurant in the area that no one in my family will complain about. Even the staff were very friendly, quick, and helpful!

I have been coming here for years. My late little sister and I used to get food to go here all the time, and I have yet to have a bad meal. I came here with a cousin the other day so he could try it, and neither of us were disappointed! The waitress we had was so sweet, and I love their rice and beans! It's definitely a darling little hole in the wall with great food! Would recommend! The only exception is their guacamole. It had no flavor other than tasting the tomatoes, so if you're a guac fan, this isn't probably the place for you, lol. Everything else is steller!

THE BEST PUPUSAS EVER!! I have tried so many places in utah and this is my favorite: for the price and taste you can’t beat it. chips and salsa free to start and then yummy pupusas and I also love the fried plantains!! 10/10! Service is wonderful!!

Really good food. The bean and cheese pupusa was really good. The cheese enchilada was okay. I’d try something else next time and they have several vegetarian options to choose from. It’s looks small from the outside but it’s a pretty big place. We went at 5:30 on a Wednesday and it was already pretty full, but we didn’t have to wait to be seated. The server was great, very attentive and the service was fast.

My wife and I have now been here quite a few times since it is walkable from where we live. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Provo. All the servers are bilingual and very kind and helpful. The food is really astounding. The pupusas are always hot and delicious and come quickly. I really like the pupusas revueltas, they are only $3.15 each but lots of food - 2 plus chips and salsa is plenty of food for even me who typically gets lots of food. Chips and salsa comes gratis with dine in and is fantastic. I've also gotten the Bistec Encebollado which was amazing, the meat was cooked well and the rice was heavenly. Last but definitely not least - try the horchata salvadoreña! It's like chocolate spiced horchata and it's delicious. No bike racks, but since we just walk it's not been an issue.

El Mexsalxs food tastes wonderful. They give you large portions for an amazing price. The servers are really nice to. Was si hapoy to have orchara again. Dinner for 3 adults, but had more than enough for lunch for the 3 of us the next day. Yummy!

Really good Mexican and Salvadoran food in Provo. We started eating there because one of our sons had pupusas on his mission and we heard they serve them there, which they do. They are delicious and have gone there many times over the years to introduce people to pupusas. In fact, we just went there this week. The food was still wonderful.

Delicious Papusas! The pork was wooow 😍😍😍 savory and soo delicious! I wish I had bought more! I ordered the Cheese, Beans, and Pork Pupusa (Revueltas). I ordered the Roast Tacos (Tacos de Asada) and was not impressed. It was dry and not very savory. It came with only 1 taco and seemed over priced. I also tried to order the Empanadas de Camaron but they are only available on Saturdays. Update: Ordered Papusas Revueltas - delicious but the pork seemed a bit skimpy. I think next time I’ll ask for extra pork because it’s so savory and delicious. 🤤

This is a small, casual dining place. Food was very good and not greasy. Our server was friendly and attentive. Portions were very generous. Lots of choices of combinations! I had a chili relleno (a favorite of mine wherever I go), a tamale, and a beef enchilada, with rice and beans. It was so good, I ordered another to take home for my hubby. I ate some of mine for lunch and took the rest home for lunch the next day! 😋 They had really scrumptious looking pastries/desserts, but I was too full to try one. Next time!☺️ Good place for college students, you g people. Good vibe there.
