Food tastes good. This is a roadside cafe. Ambiance over there is nothing as such good. But yeah pocket friendly and fast pick. Overall okay.

Bunk lived up to my expectations!. With 2015 finally here, I set out to do something I have never done. I made a list of a bunch of various Portland restaurants that all have a high diner rating (85% or better), that I would like to try. This list includes, fine dining joints, to dives, as well as a list of various food trucks. As everyone knows, Portland is famous for their food truck selection. So, yes, I am going to try various dining establishments, just because I can. I love food, and I want to explore all that Portland has to offer. This being said, my wife and I started our 2015 Portland Culinary tour at Bunk Sandwiches.

I had heard that Bunk Sandwiches had a delicious variety of sandwiches on their menu. Some of which were award winning. In my mind though, you can only do so much with a sandwich. It is just a sandwich. That aside, I went in with an open mind, and high expectations. The Bunk location that my wife and I visited was on Alberta street, next to the Salt and Straw, which we also tried and reviewed. We went on a Sunday night, at about 7:30 pm. The place was virtually empty, except for the one patron at the bar.

My wife ordered the Pork Belly Cubano minus the pickles, while I ordered the Pulled Pork with everything on it. We found a seat and waited patiently. About 7-10 minutes later, our sandwiches were sitting on our table in front of us. I could tell by looking at my Pulled Pork sandwich that this was going to be messy. As in, the sandwich was piled with the pulled pork, and topped with the apple cabbage slaw, with the pickles hidden away on the bottom of the pork. Without delay, I quickly grabbed a stack of napkins in preparation for the delightful, delicious mess that was about to unfold. As I took the first bite, I could definitely taste the apple cabbage slaw. It had a sweet, but tangy taste to it. A taste that I would not like by itself, but paired very well with the pulled pork. The sandwich itself was hard to eat because every time I tried to take a bite, a juicy clump of pork and slaw would fall below on to the tray. Eventually, I stopped fighting with the sandwich and just ate what was left between the two buns, versus constantly scooping up the pork and stuffing it back on my sandwich. My wifes Pork Belly Cubano was also very delicious. Was definitely less messy in nature than my sandwich choice. Based on her reactions as she ate, the Pork Belly Cubano was awesome! Both of our sandwiches were served with regular kettle potato chips, which had the normal super crunchy taste you would expect. Overall, I really enjoyed the food that Bunk Sandwiches has to offer and was thus satisfied. Their offerings are both creative, and delicious. I will say, Bunk lived up to the expectations that I had for this dining experience.

Amazing food... wish the girl at front counter would not text on her phone the entire time you're ordering though... very rude. Was visiting from east coast... I've traveled and lived all over including Tampa and the pork belly Cubano was right up there. Thanks

I would drive 1,000 miles.... The Pork Belly Cubano is the best sandwich I have EVER had in my entire life. It is worth going out of your way to get this sandwich. If you haven't tried it yet go NOW!!

Tiniest place with great food. Ordered the pulled pork and the cubano. Both sandwiches were flavorful, well made, and beyond delicious. The shop is very small, and has one of the oddest seating arrangements I've ever seen.

The Italian. That Italian grinder, oh me, oh my. It's tangy, it's spicy, it's perfectly portioned, it's easily one of my favorite lunchtime foods in the city. Some might think $10 is a little steep for a sandwich, but this is worth every penny.

Don't think, just get it.

Pork... oh beautiful pork... how do I love thee.... Let me count the ways....
After seeing the "Triple D" show featuring this place I knew I had to try the pork belly cubano sammy. And try it I did. It was in a word, porky bliss. Tender, fatty bliss. I don't know that I would wait in line for 30 minutes for many sandwiches but this.. hell, I'd wait an hour. Maybe more if I could drink beer while waiting.
I'm not even going to try to string the superlatives together to describe this sandwich. Just try it. Skip everything else no matter how tempting. If you love piggy, this pork belly wonder will redefine your love.
I love this thing... I'm still thinking about it a week later. I fear they treat the pork with some highly addictive drug because I crave the feeling of shoving another cubano into my mouth, closing my eyes and being transported to nirvana... again and again... and then once more.

Terrific sandwiches only made better by the inner SE atmosphere. And, at least today, no long lines. The quality is worth the cost. One sandwich could nourish two diners.

Went to check this place out while in Portland. Really cool Bar deli. My Italian was amazing, meats were fresh hot peppers slaw was delicious and the bread was perfect. Beautiful day to sit outside as well. It’s Portland so not a lot of parking on the street but it’s well worth it if you could walk or take your car. Either way cool fun place to catch a bite to eat. Great service. Great recommendations on food and drinks. Would I go here again, absolutely.

The sandwich's good, had the Cuban. Probably could use a larger portion (more of the soft pork especially) for $13. Could get double the portion at somewhere like firehouse subs. Whatever spices they used (cumin?) was a nice touch to give a bold flavor to the sandwich

Terrific sandwich place / bar in a neighborhood with other solid food options. Had the turkey club, really fresh ingredients and perfectly done. Tater tots on the side which is always a great touch to offer. Folks I was with had great things to say about their sandwiches and drinks. Certainly a place I would return to when in the neighborhood!

Bunk is certainly something of a sandwich institution in Portland and is always a safe bet. I recently ordered a Roast Beef sandwich which was the special for the day. At first I thought it looked a little small, but then I realized how tall it was! It was a very fine sandwich! And don't miss trying their "super secret recipe" Creole Cole Slaw. It's worth trying to bribe someone for the recipe.

The sandwiches were delicious. The tots were a little over cooked but yummy. Classic Portland RC Cola establishment. There were 2 pinball games and a lovely view.

Solid. Came here on a Sunday, only a few folks, two pinball machines, open booths with weirdly nice tables. Super friendly and slightly quirky bartender took our order, made weirdly good cocktails and brought out our bar food which was suspiciously better than normal barfood. This is the kind of place that first convinced me how awesome portland can be. Theres no reason this place should have such good food, cool people, or great drinks. But it does, and it made our day. Thanks :)

Great beer & awesome food. Family friendly fun atmosphere. During rush times there tends to be a line but totally worth the wait. Loved the music & murals. The one order taker/bartender was slammed, in desperate need of help all while being friendly & level headed!

We had The Bunk Cubano, Meatball Parmesano Hero and Loaded Mac & Cheese. The meatball sandwich and Cubano were both so delicious, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside 🤤. (Actually, I wanted to try the Pork Belly Cubano, but it was not on the menu.)🤔 The lemonade was delicious with real lemons shaken into it.
