Kate is the absolute best! The beer is always delicious and so is their food. The pho wings are a must try. If you’re looking for a neighborhood bar vibe this is definitely the place.

This week was my second visit to West Coast Grocery Company, to try their Sweet and Spicy Pho Wings, featured for Portland Mercury's Wing Week 2021. These wings are supposedly many people's favorite, this year, and I can see why - they are definitely one of the most interesting and different, especially when you combine the crispy-fried, pho-seasoning-dry-rubbed, chili-ginger-sauced wings (which are really good, on their own) with the thick, creamy "whisky chili garlic crisp" ranch. It was intriguing (in a good way). Despite the name, I didn't think they were very spicy, at all, which is fine, and even less so, with the ranch, but maybe after so many wings, my spice calibration is off. For me, I would say these landed as my second favorite, overall, after trying *ALL 24* of this year's Wing Week participants. The one that I like just slightly better, I think, comes down to my specific preferences. To each, their own. My first visit to WCGC, was for Burger Week 2021, for the Beer Cheese Pretzel Burger. They were, unfortunately, out of pretzel buns, by the time I got around to them, but the substitute bun was reasonably similar to a pretzel flavor, just lighter colored, and presumably less chewy. I feel like my photo turned out well, but unfortunately, I don't think I can attach it to this review after-the-fact (without deleting or duplicating it, and my poor, fragile ego won't allow that). ...but you can probably find the picture, fairly easily, here, or on my Instagram, listed down below. I do still intend to try their normal menu, as I have been impressed by both of these experiences. If you like my photograph(s), feel free to follow my foodie Instagram, for more (casual, and almost exclusively small / local) greater-Portland-area foodventures! Instagram: jonathan.grubb

First time patrons. Enticed by the PDX Burger Week burger this beautiful, clever establishment offered. Trying to indulge that pretzel bun thang, and coincidentally, that was the name of their featured burger. Um. Despite the pictures printed in the Portland Mercury and the explicit detailed description online, we got what appears to be a Franz or Costco bun. The name of the burger is BEER CHEESE PRETZEL BURGER. No pretzel. They didn’t inform us and I even asked staff when I saw another plate go by if that was the burger. The cheese sauce was runny and flavorless, soaked the whole plate. I opted for a bunless burger after table delivery. Best part of the whole thing was the bacon. Actually, only positive. *reply to owners comment. Charlie, I appreciate your quick response. So glad so many people took the opportunity to visit WCGC. The issue for us was that we went there specifically for the pretzel bun, as the name stated, and it wasn’t disclosed that you were out. I even asked your wait staff, while ordering when a plate went by, if that was the burger and they said no. We would have gone somewhere else this round, or ordered something else off the menu.

Great brew pub! Tasty brews and a friendly staff to boot! Justin and Katelyn were awesome bartenders. The food was also great especially the pork cracklin. A nice new addition to my neighborhood. I love what they've done with this space too. Great place to enjoy food and brews.
