This place is close to where my youngest daughter lives. We went there on a very rainy cold afternoon for lunch. Weather might be cold outside but Alex and his team gave us warm and friendly service. Menu is varied enough that you can find something that you will like. They have some nice local beers on tap; some local area wines and also kombucha.
My daughter ordered the chef salad. Grilled combo of prawns; baby calamari; tuna; salmon and octopus. Delicious! My wife ordered the lamb and pork gyro plate. The dish came with hummus and pita bread as well and also very good.
I had the brisket sandwich. Beef brisket; grilled onions; mushrooms; Swiss cheese and horseradish mayo in a crunchy French roll. Bread was perfectly grilled and had a nice crunch on the initial bite leading to nice warm chewy tenderness. Alex the owner told me that it takes about 8 hours to make the beef brisket and there is a fine balance between cooking the beef long enough to be very tender before drying out. He was spot on. The beef is very tender and flavorful but not mushy. Horseradish mayo was a nice touch with all the melded flavors.
This is a great spot and I will definitely be back as the food is fantastic and Alex and his team are great.
Today was my 5th time here! I always get something different and it’s always so good! Gyro! Chefs Special! Lamb plate! (before I stopped eating meat) Veggie plate! And today a salad! So so delicious every time. Amazing service. Authentic. Detailed food art. Passion. Creativity. And love in every bite. And kombucha On tap! I love places like this. Today I got to shake hands with the owner and he made me a special treat to go! These things make it easy to fall in love with Gastro Mania even more. I have a special place in my heart for this spot! Thank you Gastro Mania for coming to Portland. You are across town from me and still I manage to make it at least once a month or more! Fabulous!
Great lunch spot with tons of menu options. I was initially skeptical, but the Octopus Salad and Lamb Gyro were delicious! Not too expensive either. Their kombucha tap was down which was disappointing, but overall I would come again.
Great experience. Amazing food at a great price. The salmon gyro plate was amazing. They were busy and asked me if I could wait like 25 minutes or so to get my food, I said yes, but then the food was ready in much less time. Happy customer, I would be quick to recommend this place for lunch!
Excellent quality, tasty food, with great prices, great selection, and large portions. They are also among one of the few places that understand CRISPY french fries. The gyro had an unusual spicy sauce (jalapeño based I believe) which I quite liked, and the pita was fluffy and tender.
My only minor quibble is they only have one outdoor table, which was taken when we took our dog, so we took the food home.
Wow, the Octopus plate was fantastic! The octopus was tender and seasoned perfectly. The ink rice was great too. Don't miss the octopus if you visit Gastro Mania. The gyro was good too, but the octopus was out of this world. So tender! #Portland
Hands down, one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in Portland! Wife and I love coming here on mini dates (our children also love their food). Food is always consistent, fresh, and delicious. Great attention to detail on the presentation and flavour. We also love all the Kambucha choices.
My favorite gyro in town, and their other plates are all really good too. The other one shown is their salmon salad....and as you can see, you get a REAL piece of salmon. I've worked nearby for 5 days, and have been there 3 times already haha. Fair price too for all the flavor.
Amazing lamb gyro. Best in town, heck best I've ever had. Highly recommend. The gyro plate has sauces bursting with flavor and such a lovely pallette. Sweetness and spice!
This restaurant is one of my favorites! I’ve been here several times and the food and service never disappoint. I almost always get the salmon gyro plate, and the salmon is reliably cooked to perfection and everything else on the plate - hummus, pita, salad, rice - is also delicious. Huge portions and excellent prices.
I am bummed by the fact that they recently switched to using “100% recyclable” paper plates (you can’t recycle food-soiled paper plates) instead of reusable ones which they say is to reduce overhead costs and to save water(?), which doesn’t seem to make much sense, and even still it’s extremely wasteful.
This was an unexpected gem of a find. Everything was delicious. The lamb and pork gyro was amazing. Sauce wasn’t overpowering. Everything was well balanced. The bacon wrapped dolmades were the best part. My partner got the lamb plate. I’ve never had rice so good. Service was excellent.
Really top tier lunch spot. Prices are great, portions are generous, service is quick, 10/10 recommend. That lamb plate was one of the best I’ve ever had, well balanced with some salad, hummus and rice. Delicious 👌
