Surprising spot tucked away on a triangular block. Basement location that you could miss. Wasn't greeted on entry, but assume that staff is multitasking always. Looks like a group meeting room just to the left inside the doors. Lots of desserts out front. Waited at entry to the dining area and was seated soon. Murals on the walls are fun to see but don't expect window seats since this is below ground. We had a schnitzel sausage combo plate. Pickel soup was comforting and surprising. Braut, potato and carrots were fine, schnitzel was dry. German chocolate cake was pretty tasty. Since it is a drive to get there we will probably not make the trip as often. Attentive service from seating to check.

Such a great experience here. Lisa was so kind and attentive. The food was incredible. The ambiance is so cozy. We got the German Combo with cream of chicken soup, the Jägerschnitzel (chicken instead of pork) with the dill pickle soup, and finished with marionberry cheesecake. Everything was so delicious and the portions were perfect. We felt so welcome here and can't wait to return!

This place is amazing. I can’t believe it took me more than a year since coming to Portland to visit. Everything was cooked and seasoned well, like really well. The cakes are also amazing. The schnitzel was juicy and flavorful The sauce was excellent. The food is at the wonderful intersection of “so good it tastes homemade”, and “it’s so good you can start a restaurant”. The decor is perfectly suited to the food and taste. There is a lot of personality here. Why are restaurants not like this anymore? The food is also very modestly priced. Simply amazing.

This place is truly a gem. The menu is full of so many delicious options. The spaetzle is buttery and savory. The schnitzel is so perfect and they have a variety of amazing sauces for it. Their pickle soup is tremendous and always a treat to get. They have an amazing selection of homemade desserts that taste just like grandma made. The decor inside is cozy and charming. Everything is just so perfect about this place.

Tables full of baked goodies at the entrance. They were as good as they looked!! We all loved the soups and salad! The trout & other entrees were quite good. We all left the spinach on our plates.

The hostess/waitress was so charming. She ran everything with efficiency & charm. The dill pickle soup was awesome. The potato salad was yummy, as was the bratwurst. The food was traditionally German with drinks to match. They also had baked goods to purchase and daily specials.

The food was great. The dill pickle soup was a lovely surprise - creamy yet light, full of flavour. The deserts were amazing. Our server was cheerful, pleasant and very helpful. Don't miss a chance to visit.

The food was delicious, and just what I had been craving; authentic German. If you're wanting to hear some German spoken, this place doesn't disappoint; if you're lucky enough to be seated next to the kitchen, you'll hear German spoken every time the door swings open. Additionally, you will be greeted in German, your meal delivered with a Guten Appetit, and you will be bid adieu with an Auf Wiedersehen. Between the food, the warmth, the prompt service, the language and the delicious beer, I was briefly transported back to my beloved Bayern, and look forward to bringing my fiancé here posthaste to experience the Gemütlichkeit. Vielen Dank!

Ok folks if u want real and I mean real german food. I lived in Germany for 7 years and this is as close as u will get ....they are great...so I posted this pre covid and have been back several times and it just amazes me the food just gets better every time. It's family owned and operated and as far as I am concerned the best german food this side of Frankfurt. All I can say is wow great job Otto and Anita.
