Food is delicious! Be cautious when you ask for spicy. They don't play with their spices! I eat spicy and it was too spicy for me. Happy hour plates are $5 with one drink minimum each person. This is a great deal. Happy hour starts at 9 pm so make sure to ask for the special menu because they didnt offer it to us I had to ask for it.
Thursday afternoon in July during brewfest. Great service, cold beer, and amazing food. We had the seafood combo soup spicy👍. The other dish is a curry that hit the total comfort food realm. It is a clean restaurant and fits perfectly into downtown Portland. I’m looking forward to trying more of this restaurants menu.
I find that most Thai restaurants in Portland do it well enough because Thai food is just generally pleasing to most tastebuds. Thai food is like the southern comfort food of Asia. That said, what I like the most about E-san is the service. The experience feels authentic and the service is very friendly, which is not a guarantee for Thai restaurants. The portions are also very large.
I stumbled upon this place while visiting Portland and I was absolutely blown away. They have an extensive menu of all the Thai essentials, as well as some more unique specials. Both the curry and the fried rice dishes I tried were exploding with flavor. They meshed sweet and savory components perfectly, and had a good amount of heat. My only critique is that the service could have been a bit more attentive. You will definitely get a high-quality meal from E-San and get more than your money's worth. This is some of the best Thai food I've ever had!
Good food, fast.
We had no reservations but got a table no problem. Our order was taken quickly and arrived quickly too, in fact everything here happened fast. The dishes were great, wantons were impressive in size compared to what I'm used to. I had the pineapple rice which I enjoyed a lot.
One we were finished the bill came quickly and payment was sorted fast as well. It wasn't rushed, but I liked not being kept waiting for my bill to come and the wait staff to come back and take the payment.
Great place, not too loud at all. We've been here a couple of times and the food is always phenomenal. The service on this last time was mediocre, but the food was amazing. I'm not going to judge this place on that alone since we usually have great service.
I personally ordered the number 42, yellow curry with pork. Level, hot. It was for sure very hot. My buddy Brandon got the pineapple fried rice, with level extra extra hot. It was tearing. Lol.
We will be coming back here. Absolutely.
Food and service were fast. Huge menu and can customize each dish to your own spice level. These meals were the freshest and tastiest we had our whole trip! The place came recommended to us from a friend and we are so glad we went! The portions are huge and we had to force ourselves to stop eating so we would have leftovers!
E-San has been a terrific lunch destination for a period of time that's long enough that I can't estimate a specific number of years. Great food in a wonderful old building. Service has the perfect combination of efficiency and friendliness.
They will actually serve you pineapple fried rice IN a pineapple.
A true Portland joint.
Also they offer hot or iced thai tea, which if you've never tried it hot, you must. All the same spices without the sugar!
Also worth noting is their Evil Prince and drunken noodles.
Very good place. Always packed at lunch!
Only downside is it's near Burnside so lots of homeless and needles.
Otherwise, good prices, good portions, and ridiculously good flavor.
Fast service and good taste, the waitress was courteous to greet us and tell us about the options.
Parking is a pain in the downtown area, if you stay close by it’s same as Uber.
Pad Thai and chicken pepper was was decently cooked and yellow curry was tasty and spicy.
