Scratch is my go-to bar on Troy hill. The current food and beer selection is their best yet (though I do miss the amazing Sunday brunch). They keep a great balance of contrasting themselves from the Troy hill dives with an impeccably designed interior, and warm, friendly atmosphere, while still providing reasonably priced drinks and a local neighborhood feel. I can't speak to the main menu, as I generally go here for drinks, but everything that I have seen looks too notch. The meals are a little on the pricey side, but not at all overpriced for what you get. They have a separate bar menu, which offers some creative twists on conventional bar food, and you get generous portions for a great price. I've personally tried the pork belly sandwich and hot dog, and both were phenomenal. The service here is great, and the staff has always been friendly and attentive in the year that I've been visiting regularly. I tend to be a creature of habit with my drink choices, but they offer a number of great beers, and the cocktails are on point. One thing that I think is awesome about the beer and liquor selection is that Scratch offers a ton of local options, and often has specialty beers and drinks that benefit various causes and charities. In conclusion! I highly recommend this little gem in the off the beaten path neighborhood of Troy hill!

Outstanding experience. Scratch manages to be both very serious about food and casual enough that everyone feels welcome, even in jeans, or even on a weeknight. Also: outrageously affordable for the quality, which is becoming rare in this city. My date and I enjoyed the beef asada tacos, and plates of blistered shishito peppers and the crisped brussels sprouts. The beef was perfect, integrating light fatty pockets with crispy meat, peppers were nicely blackened, and brussels sprouts mind-blowing: perfectly crisped and drizzled in a sweet/sour sauce and served with a mild, mousse-like cheese. We both enjoyed our unique drinks, appreciated the fine service (it seemed like our server was still catching up with the bar staff), the warm dining room, which was never noisy despite being a full house. Don, the owner, stopped by to check on our table personally, a nice gesture that reinforced the friendly neighborhood atmosphere.

A charming, chill spot. Our server was kind and personable. The food was spot on. The shakshuka was full of flavor; the smashed potatoes were crispy & delicious. The Vietnamese coffee was just how I like it: bold and not overly sweet. Can’t say enough good things honestly. We came on a whim since we were in the area visiting but we will definitely be back.

Attended a luncheon here and the food and service was phenomenal! The smashed potatoes were a hit and many of us took them home. The chickpea toast was very tasty and I would highly recommend trying it. The eclectic atmosphere was warm and inviting, and everybody got a big kick out of the salt and pepper shakers. #itsthelittlethings ☺️ Thank you for such great service!

Very nice brunch place, we got the breakfast sandwich, hash, chicken sandwich, and shakshuka. All were very good. Go early if you want to try their donuts.

After finally trying this restaurant, I fully understand the hype. This is definitely one of the better restaurants in Pittsburgh (shoutout to our amazing server, Pim). I ordered the pork porchetta, which was amazing. If you like pork belly and are ok with eating a good bit on of fat, you will enjoy this dish very much. We also ordered the bread and rotating butter (smoked tomato) which was also wonderful. I washed all the food down with their house made root beer. For dessert, we shared some of the Millie's soft serve, which was a perfect ending for a stellar meal. I came with a group of 5 on a Saturday evening with reservations. We were seated on the bar side of the restaurant since the other dining room side does not have tables to accommodate a group of 5. It is darker on the bar side, so keep that in mind if you are planning to go with a large group. The service was impeccable and the restaurant is comfortable and elegant, but not stuffy. The staff are so friendly, they made us feel like we were genuinely appreciated and welcomed. Our server (Pim) was especially gracious and helpful. I highly recommend making reservations and stopping by to see what Scratch is all about. I'll be back to try to the brunch soon!

Tasty comfort food in a cozy, homey environment. Spicy bloody Mary, creative cocktails, small well-crafted menu, friendly and quick service. Staff were approachable, helpful, attentive. Great place for lunch/brunch, coffee/cocktails, business meeting or casual date. Bar on one side, cafe on the other. Cafe side felt like a bed and breakfast, in a good way. Tables/booths for dining in on both sides. Loved the Elvis/vinyl themed bathroom decor

The donuts were so delicious we forgot to take a photo of them! Our table enjoyed the donuts with French press. We then ordered the bagel spread for 2, smash potatoes (perfectly crispy), shakshouka, and short ribs and hash. Everyone loved every bite!

This is worth a visit for sure, loved the eclectic vibe, very casual yet sophisticated, with their signature cocktails and very unique brunch menu. The prices were so reasonable for house made everything, hence the name, from the sauces, pickled veg, syrups for the lattes and signature specialty drinks, bread, dressings, and anything in between! I tried the Lemongrass Latte and it was a true one of a kind beverage, loved the chick pea toast with a fried egg on their own sourdough bread! The ingredients are fresh and full of clean ingredients! I noticed in the bar there were outlets and purse hooks under every seat! The booths were spacious with colorful pillows as a comfy addition and the size of the booths provided a nook with complete privacy! Food excellent, service was also excellent, environment was pleasant and super swank and clean! Oh please taste the house made hot sauce, and grab a bottle to go, your taste buds will thank you for it and, it is 10 calories per tsp!!! No sugar.

4.5 stars. The burger was great!!! The service was possibly better and the bartender made polite jokes and kept the mode great. He made a great impression I just am bad with names. The restaurant has a great vibe about it. Super wide assortment of drinks. In my mind food was bit more narrow selection. But again burger was GREAT!! I'd go back if I could.

I hadn't read the reviews before going here and am surprised to find them so middle of the road! This place is super cute, and our server was incredibly nice. We were there for Sunday brunch (they take reservations) and had lattes, a very good espresso martini, and a craft beer for beverages. The garlic aioli on the smashed potatoes is SO GOOD. We had the standard burger and the burger of the week and both were delicious, fresh, and large enough we didn't quite finish them. I'd absolutely put this place in my Pittsburgh restaurant rotation for really solid casual meals.
