One word review: wow!
A bit more detail: this place has all the vibe of a Southside deli, because it used to be a Southside deli, but do not let first impressions fool you! It is BYOB the wait staff is great, but it is the chef who really shines here. The flavors are complex and intricate and interesting. We had the roasted mushrooms with truffled burrata, and while some places use those words as gastronomic calling cards, Cafe du jour actually delivered and created a wonderful dish with those ingredients. I also had the Oaxacan spiced chili con carne, and it was hot but complex and absolutely scrumptious. My wife had the cauliflower steak, and it was equally complex but nowhere near as spicy :-) She also had s green salad.
All in all, the food was top quality, reasonably priced, and beautifully prepared. The service was efficient and friendly, and these customers are coming back again!

Update: Bilbo's b'day, 2023. This place slaps. If you want to LOVE food (again), come here. Absolutely delicious!
Amazing food, great service, cool atmosphere. Is this a hidden gem on Carson? It shouldn't be, if so. BYOB. Prices are good but prepare to spend more than you thought, because you'll keep ordering 😋

We had a dinner at the patio and the vibe was really great for our anniversary night! Not that crowded and we loved their dish 🫶

Ate here for the first time. Big group and we ordered a big mix and shared.. some of the best did I've had in south side. Salmon was on point, chicken was amazing, chef crushed it and out waiter was super nice. It's rare that when I'm leaving a place all I can think about is when I'm going next.. only nitpick was the place is kinda small and feels a bit cramped, but they had an outside area out back that was awesome, as long as the weather is good.

My nose drew me in here as I walked Carson St looking for somewhere to eat. I was not disappointed. The staff were all kind and accommodating. Every bite was exceptionally delicious. The atmosphere was lovely as well in the secluded & shaded patio area. BYOB. Highly recommended.

Amazing food at reasonable prices and great service in an intimate setting. As covid cautious diners we love the patio; the fountain and greenery make it a pleasant place and there are heaters for chilly weather. ~3 two tops are covered if it rains. This time I got the chicken confit and my wife got the eggplant. Both of us loved our entrees, but the starters and side dishes were possibly even better. The smashed potato and charred broccoli are to die for, the meatballs are delectable, the spinach dip divine, the watermelon & feta salad has me trying to replicate it at home — even the coffee was good. Still thinking about all of it days later. Make a reservation and support these skilled, kind folks, you won't regret it!

We just had incredible takeout from here. Look at the pictures! These were our actual pork and eggplant meals out of the packaging. The food was fresh and filled with flavor. The staff were super friendly. Will definitely be eating from here again. Wow!

We are so fortunate to have stumbled across Cafe Du Jour. We were looking for bacon wrapped dates and in our search found they had dates with chorizo. Let me tell you the dates were amazing! The chorizo with a touch of spice and the sweetness of the dates were an amazing pair. We met a couple that comes here every Friday. He gets the pork chop every time and recommended the Smoked North African-spiced pork chop. Hands down the best pork chop I have ever had. Cooked to perfection and spiced just right with sweet potato on the side. We also ordered the Chicken Thigh Confit the combination of berry compote and goat cheese screamed flavor. Just when we thought we couldn’t eat another bite the owner offered us a raspberry bread pudding made with croissants that sent your tastebuds in orbit. Now as amazing as the food was the service and hospitality of the owner and chef were even more amazing. This will be a regular place to dine for us from now on. Please don’t miss out.

Really cute place, nice atmosphere and amazing food. I had the soup of the day and the salmon, both with perfectly combined and balanced ingredients. Really nice patio at the back!
