Okawa Asian Cuisine

This is a frustrating review to leave because the restaurant is overall good. The authentic food, which makes up most of the menu, is always good. However, the Americanized items, which include things like general Tso’s and orange chicken, are terrible. I’ve given them a few chances to see if maybe it was just a bad night. But it’s consistently bad. The breading is very thick and makes up about half of the volume of each piece. It’s overcooked, like it’s been forgotten about in the fryer and then thrown in the container. The chicken is tough, stringy, and impossible to chew. It’s unfortunate because, yes, this place mostly focuses on authentic Chinese food, and they do that very well. But if you’re going to include other items on your menu, especially for $16, they should be made with the same quality.

Their spicy pot and appetizer (black fungus) were very delicious! This restaurant is located a bit away from most of the authentic Chinese food options in Philly but it definitely worths a short drive. The female owner was very friendly and providing good service. Would like to come back if being at Philly again!
