Spanish Island

This is probably the best spot to get “carribean” style Spanish food in the northeast. As a Puerto Rican who grew up in North Philadelphia I definitely miss being able to get delicious & flavorful “Puerto Rican” or “Dominican” food pretty much everywhere(restaurants, corner stores, friends’ house or my house). Now that I live in the northeast I long for those days of easily accessible Spanish food. But this place helps fill that void. They have good appetizers, like pastelillos(empanadas), platanos(fried plantains), platano maduro(sweet fried plantains), alcapurias(kind of like a fritter), Relleno de papa(fried potato ball) & yuca. I love their mofongo, I order it every single time I get food from here! I usually get it with camarones al ajillo(shrimp in a garlic sauce). It is the perfect combo! But the red sauce is good too. Their pollo guisado(stewed chicken) is pretty good & their pernil(slow cooked pork) is decent. Their yellow rice is good. Their beans are very tasty & work well with the rice. The service there is usually pretty nice & quick. If you’re in northeast Philadelphia & you like carribean style Spanish food I definitely recommend this place over a lot of other options in the area.

So I would like to just share this story with the world so that maybe the good deed that the great people at Spanish Island did for me tonight won't go unnoticed and maybe it will cause them to have a few more customers than they normally would because it is rare to find the type of kindness or any type of kindness for that matter in business establishments these days when it comes to not having money. So basically I've been wanting to get myself some stewed beef white rice and some beans for quite some time now and I will be leaving the area for about 3 months at the end of the week so I made sure I made it over to Spanish Island to get myself what I want it now mind you it's a very rainy day today and I've been up all night packing so I'm just very tired and exhausted well I go into Spanish Island and I let them know that I wanted to pay with a prepaid Visa gift card that I received from doing an online survey I didn't have the physical card I only had the numbers expiration date CBV etc and they told me it wouldn't be a problem well I forgot and didn't realize that I spent some money off the Visa and didn't bring any other forms of payment with me and there wasn't enough money on the Visa after me trying to figure something out for tops maybe 2 minutes The kind amazing and huge hearted female that was working the cash registered told me not to worry about it gave me the food and handed me back the money that I gave her that I pulled from out of my pockets and bag which was about four bucks maybe a little less and she said don't worry about it well I promised her that tomorrow I would bring the money for the food and rest assured I will bring that money and some extra for her but this is something that I've ran into similar situations in the past and never as an establishment done that for me so I've always had a pleasant experience with these people their food is always great it's just all around a great place to go and get something good to eat and be around warm-hearted caring human beings

Last night my son took me there. We ordered food for pick up. Didn't know if we can sit in & eat. We'll I have to say the food was fresh n very delicious... I used to go to Freddy & Tony's.. but now this is my spot... the only thing is that they DON'T deliver. I'm NOT GOOD with delivery apps n how they charge.. n also if they DONT tamper with people's food.. But today I wanted to make a large order of over 100.00 to feed my family.. I tried grub hub apps. But it's NOT the same as ordering food n talking to a person on details.. So I just canceled my order off that grub hub.. maybe 1 day ill learn the process of ordering thru the apps.. It's hard for older people to just find a good restaurant and place an order these days... but by far this is the Best Spanish food I have ever tasted for take out.. I would give it more the 5 ☆s.. best of luck to the owners... u have a winning restaurant in my book ..

I was so nervous after ordering this on Uber eats then reading the reviews. Many of the reviews were bad but I was pleasantly surprised that my food is so good I got the roast pork with the white rice and they put the beans on the side and the beans were so flavorful even my children like them. I got them the kids meal and their chicken was good. Lastly the food got here way quicker than what I was anticipating. Hopefully this is a sign that they're providing better service now I can only speak from my experience that the food was very good!
