Review Bait & Switch Seafood Bar - Philadelphia

Joe Maccarelli
~Just moved to the area & The Bait & Switch seems to be the top nightlife establishment in walking distance regarding new decor, drink selection, square footage, & food variety. First impressions: upon entering there is a round-a-bout bar leading into an indoor dining area, & then even an refreshing outdoor patio with tables. This reminded me of restaurants I would go to after a long day of hauling in fish after a booze cruise. The staff was very friendly & informative. The fact that karaoke was being started up made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. I ordered the black pearl drink (their take on an old fashion) it was well put together, & made me want a blue moon to play off the caramel orange flavor. I also put in a fish taco order to go, because I was feeling the late night munchies. It was constructed with quality ingredients; although the fish in the top taco picture was only the size of my finger, & the other ingredients over powered what should be the star of the dish. The don approves of this establishment & will be back~

Nice place to sit and eat, the outdoor patio was breezy but comfortable. My favorite thing we ordered was the cheesy grits and clam chowder. The fried fish was a little plain. Would definitely come back during happy hour or other special.

Omg love this place. Bait bucket is tooo good. The angry muscles and and the spicy crab dip yummy. The scallops omg. Who told these people they could create this wonderful place. I been thinking about this place all week. The drinks are good and the service is great. They have local items from wine to beer to food. ThaT pecan tart is heaven in a pie dish.makes me sad that i moved from thw the neighborhood

Great place! Had the salmon and grains and my buddy had the fish and chips and both were delicious. Great and friendly staff. Even during the bartenders dinner break she jumped right up and made sure everyone was taken care of, when your drink was empty or you were ready for the check, with a smile. Classy. Can't wait to eat there again.

Great seafood bar. Their happy hour is top notch. Especially since it includes dollar oysters. Their beer menu is great and again especially great for happy hour. This has become one of my go to spots in the neighborhood. The size and atmosphere is great.

WOW! That's not a word I use very frequently when describing a place to eat. I've been here three times now and each time, I've been completely delighted with whatever I ordered. The cheesy shrimp and grits are OUTSTANDING - and this is coming from someone who spent part of her childhood living in the south. I also love that they put their own Polish spin on it by adding kielbasa! The drink selection is also impressive for an establishment of their size and the happy hour is busy but not overwhelming.

It's a nice small place, good atmosphere, well themed decor. The menu, while it looks expensive, is actually well priced for good quality seafood. They have events lined up throughout the week including Saturday night Karaoke which has become a regular for my girlfriend and I. I'd recommend this place for if you want a nice evening out without too much of a big bar scene.

Always fantastic-- great food, welcoming and friendly service. Our neighborhood fave!

Finally stopped in and was not disappointed. Cute decor, nice open feel to the dining area. I like that the bar area and dining area are separate here, they also have an adorable outdoor "patio" space for laid back hangs. Food was good. We tried the shrimp and grits, fish and chips, and, of course, hush puppies! OMG hush puppies! 10 yr old me is super psyched. The hush puppies def need a little of the sauce they come with. Dense, slightly to the left of moist, which is where the sauce fills in nicely, but great flavor. At first glance, the shrimp & grits looks like it wouldn't be enough, but once you start tucking in to this creamy delight, you'll be glad they only give you this much because you won't want to so eating it. SO GOOD! The fish & chips is served no-frills on a platter. A BIG platter. This, is a lot of food. Undo that top jeans button, you're gonna need the room! The ONLY distraction is I found the music a little too loud. Not that that stopped the woman at the table next to us from getting up and stomp dancing her way to the bar every time she approved of a song. Hilarious, and oh so Port Richmond.

Best seafood bar in the Philly area. Great staff, exceptional food, and very cool atmosphere. If you want seafood with a comfort kick to it, a good bar, and a fun vibe, look no further. I can't recommend this place enough. Try the shrimp and grits.

This place is fun. So far I've tried the fish and chips and the blackened tofu "not fish" basket which was absolutely delicious, the clam chowder "bait bucket" fries, and several of the punch drinks. All are great though the fries are too skinny cut for my taste.

Food was good. Like the layout in the restaurant. The best part about the food was the clam chowder. Best clam chowder I ever had. The portions is good but it is little of overpriced for some of the items on the menu. But overall it I enjoyed it.

We loved our first visit to Bait & Switch and it won't be our last. We enjoyed the fried cheese curds, bait bucket, ahi tuna burger, and shrimp & grits. Service was very attentive and the waitress told us the prices of the daily specials as she described them. We decided to give Bait & Switch a try because they feature local specialties such as Stock's pound cake. Save room for this incredible cake made even more delicious by being toasted and topped with soft whipped cream and berries.

Came here for after dinner drinks with friends. The atmosphere is very nice, and he drinks were great. We got appetizers because we couldn't resist trying the menu. Looking forward to returning for a full meal.

Took my husband for his birthday. Had Louisiana shrimp for appetizers, i had spicy chicken sandwich, my husband had the roast beef sandwich. The food was delicious. We were here before and everything we tried has been good.

Great addition to the neighborhood. Nice selection of craft beers and a varying menu selection to appease not only seafood fans, but meat and veggie lovers as well. Perhaps the best oysters in Philadelphia.

If you enjoy seafood, it is a MUST TRY. Mussels or bbq shrimp, great flavor and quality. The service is super friendly and attentive! Can't go wrong! Casual and perfect for a date.

Honestly what wasnt to love... Everything from the food ( what an eclectic menu) for so many taste buds! I apparently ordered 2 out of 3 of their best items, which I knew right then and there I was about to be involved in a food orgy! And omg it sure was... from the clam chowder, cheese fries to the pork and fish sandwich ( my fav) it had this delicious pepper aoli and picked cabbage mmm on ths soft fresca bread that was warm and fluffy, and top it all off with a mini pie of key lime which was made from scratch! They had so many variety's of IPA's and honestly I think I could bring anyone here ( who isn't allergic to seafood that is) and find something spectacular and just right for their taste! This place is one of the best in Philadelphia. Not the greatest neighborhood but the lighting outside and beautiful stone and brick made it look like a hideaway, once I stepped inside I felt like I was in a ship :) It was a great time and it was pretty big but not where you dont get excellent service! Everyone here rocks and I have nothing but GREAT things to say. and look forward to my next visit which will probably be soon. I definitely have no problem trying everything on the menu :) Thanks guys!

3.5 stars. Cute seafood restaurant and bar. Had the MD blue crab special, which was just ok. Crabs were small and not very good. It was $28 for 5 crabs, 4 hush puppies and corn on the cobb.

Ok so my 25 yr old foodie-daughter insisted we needed to try it! Happy hour $4 punch within 2 minutes after sitting โœ… appetizer from happy hour menu on the table within 5 minutes โœ…. Still eating our bait bucket (1/2 priced) and we were served our main courses. Like not even 10 minutes had gone by โœ… blackens fish ๐ŸŸ tacos ๐ŸŒฎ WOW! The chicken sandwich oh lord perfectly crisped and full of flavor and the wings with some type of Chilli & a hint of pineapple ๐Ÿ!!! OMG ! It was a food porn style - type of experience . Not a place for a first date if a girl is going to order a salad! Like really? For that , pick up salad at WAWA... like "Bye ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Felicia!!" Anyway, Great service ! Amazing food! Great prices !!!! Only negative thing to say (although I love sports) is that the ambiance did not match the sports playing on the flat screens. Other than that! Awesome ! Definitely going back!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Great Port Richmond spot, hit the Happy Hour if you can for the $1 Oysters. We got there too late, so that was the only negative, oysters were pricey after 7. Otherwise, everyone LOVED their meal. Hubby had fried shrimp and fries with cheese curd (although the Bait Bucket with fries with cheese curd topped with clam chowder sounded interesting); our vegetarian really enjoyed the Not Fish Basket, blackened tofu (and she's not a tofu fan, but this was well seasoned and tasty we all agreed), cauliflower and crispy green beans. two of us had the catch of the day which was Red Trout, had mine broiled, my son had his blackened both very fresh and good. I enjoyed my collards with kale, jalapeno and cherry tomatoes, he enjoyed his spicy cole slaw, and we both enjoyed our cheesy grits. Other son had the fish sandwich which he also said was good. It's a corner place, nothin' fancy but food is good, service is good, and price is right.

When they first opened we were there pretty often and our only complaint was how they served the all you can eat crab legs (took forever for more) but we were there last night for the first time in a while and the service was awful I ordered steamers to start (and repeated myself twice to the waitress) well she never put the order in, when we asked a 3rd time she was like sorry if they come out with your meal....we ended up telling them to forget it cause our meal was already on the table, the fries were over cooked and hard, and the catch of the day sandwich tasted frozen....definitely not the catch of the day, it's a shame because we were very happy with the place in the beginning.

I found the food and service to be excellent. I love raw oysters and their offering was fresh and tasty. If you go I recommend sitting outside.

I really enjoy it here. For happy hour, a meal or a Saturday night out, the staff is friendly, food is awesome and itโ€™s a comfortable atmosphere.

Great place. Excellent steamed clams and good draft selection. Outdoor space too for summer visits. But the best thing were the pork wings which were on special when we were there! Definitely will go back on a future visit to Port Richmond.

Friendly greeting from the bartender. Place was practically empty. Server was very good. Wisely waited to order entree til after app was finished. Cheesy grits were amazing. Both slaws were very good. Fish of the day was haddock. For 18.00 the portion was small. Blackened was very good, broiled was sad. The bait bucket was pricey 10.50 for 95% french fries. Was very tasty but for the price, the cheese curds and chowder were kinda scarce. Didnt order the oysters, 3or 4 $ a shell was outrageous. I might come back for happy hour but thats it. Coctails were good and reasonably priced.

Cozy. Great staff and friendly bartenders. Warm in winter and cool in the summer. Nice selection of beer. Tables and chairs are spacious and not close to your neighbor but more than happy to engage in conversation with neighbor. Menu has definitely gotten better over the years and itโ€™s reasonably priced for a neighborhood place. Always has a nice crowd and Iโ€™ve never had trouble parking even though I live around the corner.

The food was delicious, the waitress was wonderful, we will be back, I highly recommend it!
