The food was authentically Tamil Nadu style food. We got the veggie tiffin combo and non-veg meals. Both were really good. Took us to Chennai like feeling. Within 5 minutes of ordering, the food was on table.

Delicious vegetarian food. Service is just amazing. The staff is so welcoming and they make you feel super comfortable. Nice ambiance and atmosphere. However, it's a bit expensive. They offer 10% student discount.

There’s is nothing better than finding a local gem like this one. Excellent food, friendly service, and a beautiful “exposed walls” atmosphere. Easy to recommend! I popped in for a quick lunch while in town for business. Took a recommendation to stop here after talking with a vendor across the street. The high remarks were well earned. The menu is pretty extensive with a very inclusive set of options for those looking for meat-free, dairy-free, etc choices. I throughly enjoyed the fish curry this afternoon and would recommend it to anyone interested. It was delicious. Overall, I really enjoyed the stop here. It’s in a busy part of town and a lot of food delivery folks were coming in and out, but getting a table wasn’t a problem. Definitely stop here if you’re in west downtown.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city! I always love the quality of the food and of the experience every time I come here. The chicken65 is the best chicken I’ve ever had, and the service is always amazing. The last time I was there, Krisha gave us a special dessert for my birthday and made us all feel very special and valued.

Good spot for an assortment of Indian dishes. South Indian "cuisine" is a misnomer and is quite varied and consists of at least 5 distinct major cuisines. Ammas offers a bit of each without trying to explain too much about where they come from, while adding in a bunch of North Indian cuisine to the mix. Labels aside, the food is great. The butter roast dosa brought back memories from Mysore in Karnataka while the fried pomfret could take you to Kochi Kerala. We also had the South Indian meal, while a mishmash of various dishes, is tasty and worth exploring. The service is excellent and attentive.

We celebrated a birthday here and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time. They gave us a lighter, extra plates and cutlery for our cake, played a birthday song on the radio and we're generally very kind and accommodating. The food was great too. We come here often and are yet to be disappointed. I will agree with others that the recommended tips are a bit absurd. 20% to 30%.

AN EXCELLENT CHOICE! As you know I only usually do reviews for American Restaurants and Diners, but for this special review I travel to India, West India. I love Indian food, but the milder the better. I have been going here since they opened. The place is clean and orderly, the servers are helpful and informative, the food, at least what I have ordered has just the right amount of spice. I like the doza for a meal and last night I got the eggplant. All of the waitresses are incredibly nice and one in particular has been my mediator, an ambassador to amazing food. I lost the receipt but will update you as soon as I remember...

If you are overwhelmed with the size and complexity of the menu, like I was, then order a south Indian veg meal. I ordered one and loved it. It comes with several dishes of south India with distinct tastes and levels of spiciness, and they were the right level of spicy so as not to create an imbalance in your stomach. The thali also comes with roti, rice, sweets, and a savory crunchy papad. The ambiance was welcoming, and no loud music meant we could talk and listen easily. In the end, I had a yummy yummy in my tummy tummy experience 😁

Amma's, the South Indian restaurant in Philadelphia, surpassed all expectations during my recent visit. The restaurant's clean and minimally adorned decor provided a comfortable and inviting atmosphere that allowed the food to take center stage. Ambience: The ambiance at Amma's is a perfect blend of simplicity and warmth. The clean and minimally decorated space creates a relaxing environment that lets the flavors of South India shine. The focus on cleanliness and inviting design sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. Food: Speaking of the food, it was nothing short of excellent. With each dish, the authenticity of flavors was undeniable, transporting me to the vibrant streets of South India. We ordered Spicy Podi Idli,Ghee Roast Dosa and Amma’s Special Dosa. While the combo meals provided a well-rounded experience of vegetarian delights, some dishes did bring a fiery kick of spiciness. What truly added to the authenticity of the South Indian experience was the traditional Filter Coffee. This aromatic and flavorful coffee is a true delight, crafted meticulously to perfection. Service: While not reaching exceptional levels, the service was decent and accommodating. Prices: One of the most pleasant surprises was the affordability of the menu items. Despite the exceptional quality of the food, the prices were very reasonable. In conclusion, Amma's offers a remarkable blend of good service and exceptional South Indian cuisine. The inviting ambiance, coupled with the dedication to authentic flavors, guarantees that every visit will be a memorable one.
