The Barbacoa was extremely tender!!! Which was great! So much flavor!!! The corn tortillas are freshly made!! Love that! My only issue (and this is my personal opinion) I had a lot of bones from them chopping up the meat. For me, this is like eating shrimp and chewing on the shell (very cringeworthy). However, once I picked the bones out no issues. The staff was friendly and inviting! I mentioned it was my first time and they went above and beyond explaining and answering my questions. I will return!

South Philly Barbacoa is a true foodie delight. The tender, flavorful meat combined with handmade tortillas creates an authentic and satisfying experience. A must-try for any food enthusiast. We were met with a line but what good restaurant doesn’t have that problem. Only downfall is it’s cash only. Great service and incredible food.

My good friend had heard of this place as it appeared on Chef’s Table and it did not disappoint. This is a dive but the food and the accoutrements were wonderful. Amazing chef who genuinely cares about the product. The only reason for the 4 star rating was due to some bones in the meat of my buddy’s tacos. He loved his food but needed to eat cautiously!

Food is amazing! The lamb barbacoa tacos are incredible. Definitely worth the wait- Small area inside and outside to sit-nice little ‘toppings bar’ with peppers, cilantro, and sauces.

Comfortable spot with amazing barbacoa. The lamb is so tender, and the fresh handmade in front of your face taco shells are amazing. No matter how popular this place gets, the prices remain affordable. I wish they took credit or debit, but it's okay. The food is great. Christina is amazing, and though she was extremely busy, she stopped for a photo.

A pilgrimage 7 years in the making that was truly surreal. I’ve had Chef Christina Martinez highlighted as one of my number one food experiences in the country, and man did the barbacoa deliver. It’s an absolute art how the time, seasoning, respect to the process and tradition marry perfectly to complete the best taco I’ve ever had. The fresh tortillas, salsa, and veggies elevate it to the highest of levels. Sweet dreams are made of this.

We were new to authentic Mexican cuisine and this place hit all the right notes. We got the lamb barbacoa tacos and the pancit tacos, both were great. Lamb was cooked really tender and this place is very authentic, feels like a cozy family spot. Don’t miss add toppings from the sauce bar. Tamales were great too. We got the camerone soup too to have with the tacos. Soup was very satisfying with the tacos. The servers were very helpful and the food was great. They accept cash or venmo.

As a serious taco lover,I’ve wanted to visit this South Philly spot since it was featured on Chef’s Table, and it was awesome!!! Just walking in and getting the aroma of fresh corn and meats with the team behind the counter making the tortillas, I knew we were in the right place. Service was friendly throughout with Cristina greeting us at the door, and escorting us to a large dining hall next door with space for our party of six. We started with a half kilo each of the barbacoa and pancita. Served with red and green salsas, warm tortillas, minced onion, consome, nopalitos, and jalapeños. it was a spread! And very promptly inhaled by our group, some speechless over how good it was. With round one devoured, we ordered a round of margaritas and another 1/2 kilo of the pancita (our fave). As a taco connoisseur, this place was seriously good! I’ll be back!

Absolutely lives up to the hype. South Philly Barbacoa was one of the main draws for us to travel to Philly and it did not disappoint. We have been fortunate to try some very authentic Mexican cuisine over the years, and this was amongst the best of them. We tried all types of the tacos, and could have spent our mortgage payment on more. The meat was so tender and a flavourful that you could instantly tell absolutely no corners were cut on the making and preparation of the food. If you eat enough Barbacoa , or tacos or anything authentic food for that matter, you can very quickly tell authentic from pretenders. I would absolutely recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Philly or within 2 hours of the city, it’s worth travelling for.
