Review Fuji Sushi Bar & Grill - Pensacola

Alex Krausman
My husband and I have been here a few times now for sushi, and we've never been disappointed! Our waiters and waitresses have been good, and our food was always served in a timely manner and was delicious. The prices are good, too. We have really enjoyed the "new" section of the sushi menu, with rolls like Red Dragon Maki (my favorite.) The fried lobster roll is great too! Needless to say, we will keep coming back.

We always have a fantastic time when we go have Hibachi at Fuji Sushi Bar & Grill. The waitresses are very sweet, lovely girls and the Hibachi Chefs are funny and super talented! The food is fantastic, and the entire experience is really enjoyable for my husband, myself and our little boy! Highly recommend!

I ate here in January 2012. The service was amazing! If you are a fan of raw fish, try the sashimi deluxe! The chefs even let me pick the assortment of fish! I enjoyed every bite and the scenery, cleanliness, and overall experience was amazing. I am going back tonight for my anniversary with my sweetie! Sushi and Sake, here I come!

Great staff, fast service, and the food is amazing. My all time favorite place to eat sushi in Pensacola. Not to mention their bonzi drink is delicious. The prices are better then fair. Take the entire family, or your loved one for a romantic night out in one of the private rooms. They have something for the entire family!

Great bento lunch specials! Fun Japanese stile tables.

Our first visit here was last week. We ate hibachi and I wasn't very impressed with the place. I didn't read any reviews and we were the only ones on the hibachi side. Our server Cierra was super friendly and attentive, but we contemplated making an excuse as to why we had to leave before our food came out. We were about to tell the waitress Cierra when the guy came out with the food to cook. So we stayed. I will tell you this:WE WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE! The hibachi chef, he said his name was Jackie Chan, was the best we've ever had! We love hibachi, and we've been to quite a few. We were laughing the whole time! I figured he'd probably use some of the same techniques and stuff we've seen before, but he had all new, fun stuff! We were absolutely pleased and impressed. This is our go to place for hibachi now. Thank you for the wonderful service and delicious food!

Great food and service! My boyfriend and I love sushi and have tried every sushi spot in Pensacola. This is, hands down, our favorite place. We've become regulars and the sushi chef and waiters have our order memorized. The staff is very friendly and the sushi is fresh. We always order a BBQ Eel Maki, Valentine Roll, and alternate between their Crab Rangoon or another roll. Also, I tend to get tamago nigiri (guilty pleasure). My boyfriend's 6-year-old nephew is generally difficult when it comes to eating food, but he loves Fuji's chicken hibachi kid's meal. We also love how every meal comes with a hot bowl of miso soup. It's such a great spot! I highly recommend this restaurant.

This location has a pretty large variety of sushi and rolls. I had the Fried Lobster and King Roll and they were both very flavorful and filling. The "wasabi" wasn't as hot as I'd like but still decent. Miso soup was also delicious.

Simply put, the best sushi in Pensacola! The fish is between the freshest I've ever tried, the rice is cooked well, firm, delicate on the tongue but not too mushy, the sushi chefs are constantly proposing new exquisite recipes! A MUST on the coast!

I've been coming here over a decade. Best AYCE sushi in town hands down, other places really don't put as much care into it. And this place has great staff, always friendly and courteous!

Excellent food at an excellent price. I do the all you can eat sushi every month or so and have never been disappointed. Also larger groups can get a private booth/room.

Best place in town for sushi! I've been eating here forever ! I won't go anywhere else ! Always fresh &made to order. Wonderful staff and service . They never get my order wrong . Perfect EVERYTIME .Thank you Fugi!

Great food! The Sushi is always fresh, and the kids love the Hibachi! Priced moderately for the food and decor! Friendly staff, too.

Not a bad place to go for hibachi... the food is pretty good and so is the service. Very similar to other Japanese restaurants as far as the menu goes.

Eeewwww that smell!!!!. My husband and I walked in and the first thing we noticed was a horrible smell and thought that it could just be the koi pond in the front of the room. As we walked to our table the smell got stronger. We ordered our drinks and by the time we got our drinks delivered we were both nauseous from the staggering smell of dirty fish. Needless to say we will NEVER go back!

Good udon is hard to find in the states. Especially since I'm a picky eater and have had the real thing. The food was good and so was the service. The sushi was awesome. I definitely bookmarked it to eat there again

Worth the wait. My family ad I heard a lot about this place good and bad. Although it took a whole for us to get our food, it was well worth te wait. Also, I liked how at the shift change every server was inspected for their grooming habits. Literally the only shrimp me and my family like to eat is here in the crunchy shrimp roll. Their tempura is to die for as well!

Never Again. When my boyfriend and I arrived, it was a good 4-5minutes before any employee acknowledged our presence. As we were heading for the door, someone finally seated us at a table and provided us with menus. We waited another 10 minutes before I said that I'd like to leave. I believe our waiter heard the conversation, because at that moment he finally decided to take our drink orders. Shortly after ordering, we received our salads. We both requested honey mustard dressing, but that was not what we got; I have no idea what was on our salad. For the most part, our dinner was good, but I was extremely disappointed in my entree. I ordered the tuna teriyaki and asked for it to be cooked rare. When I sliced into the tuna, it was far from rare; it was very well done. If I wanted to eat something that tasted like canned tuna, I would have stayed home and eaten canned tuna. We were so disappointed with the service that we will not be returning. Also, I feel it's worth mentioning that the staff was not very friendly. When our waiter arrived he didn't bother to say "hello" or introduce himself. We were not asked once how our meal was or even told "thank you" for being a customer.

Bento box lunch was good. I was hungry.

Good all the way around. Service was good service sushi was amazing.

This place was a complete train wreck from the moment we walked in. It smelled of a weird mix of propane and fish, and the atmosphere was horrendous. Almost no one was laughing or talking, the Hibachi grills were tiny, the hostess had to move some people with a young child to seat us, and on the TV during March Madness was ... the X games? And at the bar, some sort of kiddie cartoon show? All signs this place just doesn't get it. The prices were astronomical; at least the waitress (the one bright spot in all this) allowed our 12-year-olds to deviate from the three kids meals on the menu (still $10 each) and create their own. I ordered sushi; prices were reasonable there. The soup was decent, but the salad was the last straw. Wife and kids got the ginger dressing (they had *gasp* three choices including *double gasp* ranch) and it tasted like hair perm and looked like runny applesauce. We faked sick, squared up, left and went to Subway. Major disappointment.

This is my favorite place to get sushi. I always enjoy their specialty rolls which most are under $10. General Tso's chicken meal is delicious and comes with a large amount of food for only $11. The waitstaff is very friendly & welcoming. I always leave Fuji very pleased!

The service here is pretty awful if you order take out. I've dined in three times and the service was great but like I said the takeout service is pretty bad. But their sushi is really very delicious. Best chicken tempura roll in Pensacola hands down. Their entrees seem a little pricy but I've never ordered them. But I would definitely recommend their sushi!

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. After my husband had to beg for refills on his drink for the second and third time from the waiter, when we did get up to pay our bill, the young man that was about to take our money did not want to hear about our complaints, as he was too busy listening to music through his iPod earbuds! We tried to ask for a manager, but he acted as if he did not understand or could not hear us. How ridiculous! My husband got on his cell phone as we left the store and called back immediately to speak to the manager. We were shocked when the manager asked us what he wanted us to to do about it. Really? You can't even apologize for the rudeness of your wait staff and assure us that you will do something about it so that this sort of thing doesn't happen again? Do not spend your hard-earned money in this establishment!!!!

Decent Bento Box lunch. This was my first visit to Fuji and I didn't do anything too exotic, just the beef terriyaki bento box. The beef was tender and the terriyaki was mild and tasty, not overpowering. The California roll was good as were the tiny egg roll and crap rangoon. The salad was pretty ordinary, but the ginger dressing was good. It's clean, nicely decorated with mood lighting and the service was fine. Most of the menu items are under $10, a few are in the $10-15 range and a few are around $20. I didn't really put the Sushi chef to the test so I can't comment on the Sushi overall.

Highly Disappointing. My boyfriend & I had never been here and wanted to try out something new. My boyfriend ordered the spicy tuna roll, and I ordered the spicy general's chicken. It started out with Miso soup which was luke warm when I got it, but I overlooked it while I patiently waited for my meal. About 45 minutes later we finally received our meals. As soon as I took a bite of my chicken I was very disappointed because it was barely even warm. I confronted the waitress about it and she said she would take it back to the kitchen & bring me some more. When she brought it back, the rice was dry and the fruit that was also on the plate was extremely hot. Quite apparent that it had just been thrown in the microwave. By that point, I just wanted it taken off my check and wanted to leave. My boyfriend spoke to the manager and she was not very remorseful whatsoever. The sushi was average but nothing special. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you want decent portions, great sushi, for the same price go to Ichiban or Tu-do! Much better. I will NOT be going back to Fuji again.

Although a clean place, it lacks customer service and the aura of comfortable dining area.

The sushi of real hit or miss. Some nights good some nights not so good

Server hates ayce. My group and I each had the $20 AYCE. You are only allowed to order one sushi roll at a time, and only after you have finished all of your previous sushi. This would not be so bad, if the sushi didn't take about 20 minutes to get to your table. The whole pattern was eat one sushi roll, wait 20 minutes, eat another sushi roll, wait 20 minutes, and so on. After the initial order, only one person could have a sushi roll at the table while everyone else had to wait their turn. The server even got so angry at us for daring to order AYCE that she would intentionally not put our orders in. I waited 40 minutes to get my order, after having to remind the server twice, and she only put it in after we started complaining when she handed us the bill.

Great sushi. The sushi is excellent. service is good and prices aren't too bad. they also have hibachi tables. i haven't tried that yet, but did have shrimp yakisoba, which was very good.

Love their lunch. The lunch specials are great. It is what first attracted me to Fugi. The chicken teriyaki box is around $5.99. Plus you get a ton of food.

Overall, unremarkable.. The meal started well with a heaping plate of calamari brought fresh out of the fryer. It was crisp, with golden tempura-like crust and served with a side of generic sweet chili sauce. The appetizer was followed with an unremarkable duo of soup and salad. The miso was equivalent to an individual packet of dehydrated Kikkoman soybean paste mix from the store. The handful of lettuce was difficult to find under the lake of tasteless ginger dressing. Awkwardly my entrée was brought out a full five minutes before my date's. What the kimchi lacked in heat from sitting on the table awaiting the second dish to arrive, it made up for in spice. And as one who lives for spicy, hot, burn your brain cells food, this was not the pleasant kind. It was almost like taking a bottle of dried paprika and pouring it over flank steak and sautéed cabbage. Each bite left an ashy kind of texture coating my tongue and a dull burn overtaking my palate. Luckily my 66 oz water was on hand to wash away the flavor.
Pros: Unless you are a camel, you will never have to wait on your waiter to refill your beverage, and most of the décor is probably for sale in a display case up front.
Cons: Mediocre Asian cuisine with lacking service.

Calamari was crisply battered but slimy underneath. General tso was crispy as should be, but sauce smelt and had ketchup taste. Chicken was slightly old tasting. Ginger salad Was like full of grounded ginger. Fried rice was ok. The spring roll was slimy inside crispy outside. Overall would have been better off eating at grape garden! First time I have not taken food home with me.

The sushi here is ok... The atmosphere is nice and I love the tatami rooms. Our waiter didn't seem to know what he was doing... And seemed very unfamiliar with the menu. He didn't know what gyoza was... And acted pretty awkwardly. I would go back if I was in the immediate vicinity, but wouldn't go out of my way and make a trip to eat here.

This place is alright but definitely not the best place in town. Prices are fair, sushi is decent but the service has been horrible the past few times I've been there. Yeah they may have AYCE sushi but what good is it if you physically have to get up & go hunt down your server to get another order EVERY time. The first time this happened I thought it was a fluke but seeing that it has occurred on multiple occasions now its obviously just how they run their business now. I suggest getting your sushi to go.

Does not deliver

We're regulars!. We regularly go to Fuji. The food is good, the service is good, and the price is good. They don't have the best sushi, but they do have the best sushi for the price. I get an all-you-can-eat ($20) every time I go. It covers about 20 common rolls, and is definitely worth the price.

Just finished eating and did not enjoy it. Hispanics made my sushi too kind of weird.

Great sushi! Sunshine roll is the best!!! And the people are very friendly!

Great Kimchi. The pork kimchi dish is to die for. It is fairly spicy, but the flavor is divine. Now that Korean Restaurant is (sadly) closed, this is the best place in town for kimchi. The portion is sizable, and most would find themselves taking leftovers home.

I have not had the sushi here. Service is average.

I have eaten sushi here several times. Never had a bad roll (9/10). The miso soup is little salty but still good. I would highly recommend this place. The ambiance is ok (5/10). Could use a little facelift. Good service (8/10).

The sushi was almost inedible and was way, way over priced. My husband and I will never return. Service was great but unfortunately it doesnt make the food any good. (Davis location)

Best sushi in pensacola. This is the best sushi place my wife and I have found in Pensacola. The atmoshpere is wonderful. The sushi always taste fresh. Not a big fan of the hibachi though. Way to salty. The sushi is great, but not exactly a good restaurant for small children.

BEST IN TOWN!. My friends and I probably go to Fuji one to two times a week. were loyal customers, the staff know us, what we like and are very friendly. I've tried other places like ichiban, sake cafe and so on but the sushi at fuji is my favorite. Its not fancy but its good and the price is not bad. The all you can eat deal is worth it, their other menu items are great to. And no where in pensacola will you find better cucumber salad!

Good Stuff-- Repeat Customer. Love this place! I go there so frequently the staff knows exactly what rolls I want, how I specifically want them made, and that I want extra eel sauce. Good sushi, great price. I also enjoy the lunch special of all you can eat hibatchi-- great, entertaining cooks.. excellent prices and they also serve sushi as a part of the all you can eat. I will definately go back when I get the urge for sushi.

Best Hibachi Around. Check out Fuji for the All You Can Eat Hibachi Lunch! For about $10 you can stuff yourself with the best hibachi around! The chefs are all fun and the food is amazing.

This place def isn't the best in town. Very low grade sushi. The price is decent for what it is though.

Bad experience.. Horrible experience. We went for lunch and ordered a couple of bento boxes (one salmon teriyaki, one grouper teriyaki). The fish was deep fried served with teriyaki on the side. Even the gyoza was deep fried. The ginger dressing was disgusting as well. We sent the food back, there were no apologies from the staff and they still charged us full price for the meal we did not eat. Will not be going back.

Typical sushi bar. The sushi here isn't bad it's just boring & typical. If you want SUPERB sushi the go a couple of blocks further down Davis Hwy. to Ichiban, you'll be glad you did.

Good "B" grade sushi. Can't really complain since it is all you can eat sushi. Wife usually gets some kind of noodle dish that she really likes. Never had to wait for a table and wait staff is par with comparably priced restaurants.
Dareon
Quaint and charming. This is it. This is where it all started...for me. haha I had my first sushi roll here, a crunchy roll. Good stuff. It's located in a strip mall close to books-a-million.

Besides ichiban. This is one of my normal places to go dine at with friends. Sometimes the service is a little slow depending but the food and the staff are friendly

I love their $19.99 AYCE sushi deal. It's not the best sushi I've had, but it is the best deal for the quality in Pensacola. The hibachi is good too. I'm a loyal customer.
