Au Sable Inn

This is a generous gift for me. I went to the ausable inn from my first experience on my anniversary 10 year. When arriving it was a nice atmosphere however they were out of half the menu. So my wife ordered from what was left of fish I ordered the barbecue ribs and it's the first time I've ever had to tell someone to please take the ribs away they were coated with cinnamon and sugar and was inedible upon mentioning this to the waitress she did offer up a replacement unfortunately my stomach was pretty sour from the taste of the ribs and in fact I didn't even get through a third of the meal but I was charged half price was not a glowing way to celebrate my anniversary.

Managerial service is terrible. We waited 45 minutes for food in a half empty restaurant with lots of staff. My grouper sandwich was crusted in rock hard batter fragments. I told our server who apologized. She returned quickly to say that her manager wanted to see the dish. So they took my plate from me to show the manager! You’re gonna make me wait 45 minutes for garbage and then take it away from me with intent on bringing it back! Nah. The manager never came by to speak to us, and still charged $3 for onion rings that were also taken. Ordered a cosmopolitan and it wasn’t a cosmopolitan. Onion rings overdone, cold fries. Waitress was sweet; it wasn’t her fault. Won’t be back.

We have stayed at the Huron House B & B for many years and have always enjoyed eating at the AuSable Inn for just as long. The staff has always been friendly and the food was tasty. Over the last several years we had varied experiences with the food, some good, some not so good and we learned that the reason was probably due to changes in ownership. The last time or two we were in Oscoda the restaurant was closed. This past August (2021) we were at the Huron House and learned that the AuSable Inn had just opened for business once again and that the original owner was now back. We decided to give it another try. The staff was friendly, the food was tasty and arrived quickly, and our waiter was polite and engaged us in friendly conversation. My wife has always enjoyed their pepper jack soup and during our last visit she was able to order it once again. I could be wrong (we only eat at the restaurant once a year or every couple of years) but I think the original menu used to have more food options than the current one. During this visit (August 2021) we ate on the back patio which overlooks the river. The tables and coverings appeared to be brand new and the view of the river in the afternoon sunshine was peaceful and a nice setting for our meal. Now that we know the original owner is back we will be back on any future trips to Oscoda.

My husband and I decided to go here for a nice dinner. I will start out by saying that the food was great. The waitress was extremely rude. She gave me a dirty look when I asked for a refill of my Diet Coke and she referred to my steak as shoe leather. If you want spend $75 for a dinner for two people and get treated like you're inconveniencing them, this is your place. They will never get our business again. We left extremely disappointed and I hardly touched my dinner.
