Review A Family Affair - Oklahoma City

Stephen Lantrip
Just like Mom used to make. AND it's all you can eat. Drink included! Desert included. 11 am to 4 pm daily. The works is 11.99. Example Thursday I had cooked cabbage. Green beans. Mashed potatoes. Gravy. Beans. Pork chop. Fried chicken. Baked chicken. Meatloaf. I had no room for Chocolate cake and Banana pudding. Iced tea. Friday they include fried catfish on the buffet.
Matthew Schwarzenberger
Bottom line... friendly people, and really good food.

Felt like home. The atmosphere and the food feel like home. This is my first visit and I felt like I am in my Grandma's kitchen. Moreover, the waitress Kassie, she did a great job. She was attentive to every customer and knew what I needed whether it was drink refill or taking the plate away after I am done. She also knew that I needed service at the food bar and she came and helped! I wish that her supervisor notices and gives her a raise.

I love the staff here. Family atmosphere and hearty food. Friday's menu is my favorite menu day, although I've had just about everything they offer and it is all good. The banana pudding....hmmm yummy.

Atmosphere is great, although a buffet, service is excellent. Salad, sides, meats and dessert will bring you back for more. Would rate 5 star but roll and cornbread need attention.

Really good home cooked food. I am a pretty big food critic and it exceeded my expectations. The staff was very friendly and attentive. This was my first time here, loved the atmosphere, music was great! Thank you

Delicious soul food. You can tell it was homemade with soul. My husband loved every minute we were there. Small location but Big Taste. Would eat there again if in the area

Always a delight....especially the Soul Food Sunday menu. We bring others every visit, and they love it as well. Everything seems to be always perfectly cooked with the right seasonings!!

Always really good food. I love the buffet so you can try so many things. Catfish and fried chicken are really good. I wish the place as a little bigger and open on Saturdays!

Food was very good for the most part. Salad bar needed refilling but there was a bus that stopped so the place was extra crowded. I would return and hope there's not a bus filled with people. 5 stars

Location may be deceiving, but don't pass it up! The best food and people in the area! Home cooking, soul food in an all you can eat setting. Nothing fancy, but clean and well worth it.

Visited today for the first time and everything I ate was really good. The chicken was juicy and very well seasoned, the cabbage was amazing and the cornbread...well there are no words. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some good soul food. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our overall experience was a great one.

I loved the assortment of fresh food on the buffet. The staff was friendly. We saw they were out of Kool Aid and the waitress made us some Kool Aid fresh. The owner came out and checked on us twice to see how our food and experience was going. Very rare to have that in a restaurant. The lady serving the meat on the buffet line was very friendly and cordial. We will definitely be back.

I was extremely disappointed after reading all the hype this place received on Facebook and Google. If you're feeling nostalgic for food served from a high school cafeteria, A Family Affair is right up your alley. Food is either watery, overcooked, or drowning in extra sugar to make up for mediocre cooking.

The sign on the wall says "Where the food is good for the soul" and it truly was. Soul Food at its best , seasoned to perfection. And the service was excellent. Family really enjoyed it we will be back.

Clean hot buffet style, super helpful staff. Tables were clean as was my utensils and plates. For true home made soul food this is OKC's only spot.

I love A Family Affair. The food, the people, the place, it's all right! The best fried chicken since Sleepy Hollow, the best meatloaf since mom's, the best "candid" yams since Thanksgiving. You're going to love it too! The sides alone are worth the money. Greens, Mac and cheese, cabbage, ...come on down.

My favorite soul food restaurant in OKC. The meatloaf is bomb, the neck bones are out of this world and the fried chicken is delicious!

I have enjoyed every meal I've had there. They go a little heavy on the salt with the fried chicken, shrimp and fish.

I have dined at Family Affair restaurant a couple of times. I have been pleased with the food, especially the fried chicken. My wife and I decided to order fried chicken for Sunday dinner. We have two issues with the Family Affair restaurant and our dinning experience.

We ordered eight thighs and only received two thighs. At $1.49 per thigh, that’s a $8.94 over charge. Also, we did not have the correct amount of chicken, which caused a change in plans. I called about the issue and asked to speak to a manager on two occasions. Both calls had the same outcome; “the manager is not here and I don’t know when they will be back.” One of the workers, Diamond, offered that I could come in and she would give me the six thighs that we were shorted. I do not live close to the restaurant, so this was not a viable option. A gift certificate or credit of $20 or a refund of at least $8.94 plus tax, which would be $9.69 would be satisfactory.

The second issue is proper packaging. The person that put the chicken in the containers used Styrofoam containers, which were not able to shut due to being over filled. Then he wrapped the full Styrofoam containers with cling wrap. The chicken was hot, so it melted the Styrofoam onto the chicken and the condensation made the chicken batter soggy. So the chicken experience was not as good as previous visits. For this issue, I think a full refund of the charge is in order, about $35.

I can not recommend the Family Affair restaurant for any to go orders, but still recommend the restaurant for dine in.

We had a great lunch there! The fried chicken was excellent and my boyfriend said the catfish and meatloaf were great as well! 10.99 each for lunch buffet and drink-worth it!

Almost Like Thanksgiving Year Round. What I like most is the vast variety of side dishes. It is like having all the sides my family would have at Thanksgiving on a buffet line availble anytime. This is definitely a comfort food type restaurant. I went lunchtime on a Friday. They had catfish and fried chicken availible. The catfish was slightly on the salty side but that is how I like it. I will say the setup is slightly confusing on your first visit and the neightborhood is on the sketchy side. However, it is definitly worth it. Be sure and check when they're open or you may end up being dissappointed.

I and my son seen a commercial on TV about this place... we drove 60 miles to try it.. on Saturday for lunch.. and they were closed

Just go to Family Affair. Enough said.. The day I went, I had meat loaf, mashed potatoes w/brown gravy, green beans, mac and cheese, banana pudding and a slice of lemon cake. They also had corn-on-the-cob and brown beans that day (and fried chicken, of course), but I didn't try them.

The meat loaf was some of the best I've ever had. I couldn't get enough. It was moist and wasn't charred around the edges like some other places. The seasoning was delicious. I was going to get some fried chicken, but the meat loaf was so good I couldn't resist it.

All the sides were excellent and perfectly seasoned, especially the mac and cheese which was creamy and cheesy without being gooey.

As other reviewers have said, the banana pudding is fantastic! I don't know what they're doing differently than everyone else, but whatever it is, they've got a winning recipe.

The lemon cake was moist and very, very good. I was going to get another slice, but by that time, I was completely full.

They only serve Louisiana Hot Sauce and Trappey's Peppers on the tables, so if you're a Tabasco fan (like me), bring your own.

You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't try Family Affair. I had lunch on Thursday and it ran about $11 and change. It was worth every penny.... AND MORE!

I used my Groupon at Family Affair today, they were rude and unwelcoming. I know that it is Sunday and busy, but they were absolutely rude. I got ONE extra side they charged me for two and when I tried to use my debit card they gave me an attitude asking, "Why don't you use CASH." I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

One of the BEST. My family and I ate the Sunday buffet today. The food is wonderful, just like my momma used to cook. The greens are absolutely beautiful and the cornbread dressing moist and delicious. To top it off, we all had the bananna pudding! (some of the best I've ever had) The staff was so friendly. The atomosphere was clean and inviting. We could easily make this an every Sunday event. Most any family can afford the price. Thanks for a great meal.

Great Home Cooking. I really liked the down home food in this restaurant. The owners are fantastic and the decor is beautiful with their black table cloths settings.
Daily fare includes fried chicken and a other meat dishes while vegetables include candied yams, greens, corn, green beans.
I've eaten there on several occasions and never been disappointed.

Fantastic... I have been to this restaurant several times and everyone of them have been GREAT! I love the fried Chicken, Catfish, Shrimp and the burgers are Awesome... AWW THE GREEND , yAMS, AND macaroni are my favorite..If U havent been there, u better cause they have the best food around....

The concept is a modified buffet. You get a plate, load up salad and veggies, then head to another section of the buffet for meat. I chose fried chicken. The mashed potatoes and bread (cornbread) are here also. A server brings your drink (iced tea for me). All of this was pretty darn good. I don’t know that the chicken was the best in OKC, but it was far better than other fried chicken I’ve had. The sides were also very good (there were something like six sides to choose from). I really liked the mashers and gravy.

When it comes to shady Oklahoma City dining the following rules have proven themselves accurate. There is a positive correlation between Mexican food’s tastiness and its level of shadiness; iron bars may seem cold and uninviting, but they apparently lock
