Review Don's Alley Restaurant - Oklahoma City

Rick May
Good food and friendly service. We had the Don's breakfast special for $8.49 and it was very good. A generous sized chicken fried steak, two eggs, potatoes, and two biscuits and sausage gravey. The chicken fried steak was great, tender, hot, and tasty. The gravey was really good but the two biscuits were only average and appeared to be frozen biscuits. They call the potatoes hash browns, when they are really just fried potatoes and not the classic hash browns that are grated potatoes. Interesting architecture and lots of unique prints and art work in the back dining area. Massive fireplace in the middle of the restaurant also. Not your average generic building or decor. Waitress was friendly and personable. I'd gladly go back again based on my first experience. A good sign that the food is good and reasonably prices is to view the diners. This place was full of old people, obviously retired. They had their choice and certainly time to go most anywhere, and they chose Don's.

The stand-alone building is set farther back from the road than the strip malls to either side. Look for the large sign, rather than the building. Don's has a drive-through, carry-out, and dining room. They offer breakfast and lunch/dinner entrees. Home cooked food at decent prices. Great chicken fried steak and amazing dinner rolls. Great selection of pies.

You know you're in for a traditional meal when you walk inside and 99% of the patrons are senior citizens. This is the first place I've found in the metro that has a pork tenderloin sandwich! They call it a pork cutlet sandwich. And it's PHENOMENAL! Service is kind and quick. It's hard to run out of drinks here, because they're constantly refilling them.

The atmosphere is quite nice. This is not my first time eating at this restaurant. The meal is quite delicious. You do get your money's worth. Pictured is Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, carrots, dinner roll and salad.

Don's is one of the best kept secrets in Del City offering great freshly prepared "comfort food" such as fried okra, homemade mashed potatoes, fried chicken, pinto and navy beans, and, my favorite: chicken livers! A great place for breakfast and group gatherings too.
Chris Clack
breakfast was sooo goood, and enough for two. biscuits are fresh and taste home made and bacon cooked to perfection.
Overlord Alvarez
One of the 5 Great Burger Lords of Del City. Everything else there is good but their burgers are bomb(dot)com

Great place! Very clean and quiet! Me and my Boyfriend went here for the first time last week, it was great! The food was Tasty and very well cooked! My Boyfriend is picky about His food, but He loved this place! The waitress was very Nice and Recommended some things we should try on the Menu. The prices are great! We will be coming back in the future!

Dons has been around for a long time. They used to be a drive in and over time converted to a strictly sit down. One of the better chicken fry breakfast, huge biscuits and really good sausage gravy. Chicken fry sand for lunch is a mainstay as well. The wait staff has always been slow but, solid! Food is really good quality they don’t cut any corners!
Stuart Cousineau
Breakfast was nice basic menu. Biscuits were nice and soft. Could have been more gravy provided. Wait staff was great and handled our 30 member party with the other regular business. Fair price as well.

Absolutely good food. Plain food made extremely well. Ate there yesterday' friend had roast beef with gravy, mashed(real), carrots(perfectly seasoned), homemade roll, salad. Mashed potatoes have great gravy. I had grilled pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, fried fresh okra, roll and a salad. Portion were so big we both took to go boxes. Bill was $32.00. Really great place to eat.

I've loved this place for years, I discovered Don's Alley when I worked in the area. Now I keep hoping they will open soon, I would love to eat there when I go to Tinker. The food is the best, and my goodness the homemade pies are fantastic.

Hungry? Check. This is the place for you. My oh my I haven't had as good of food as this in quite some time. My wife and her family had been going here since she was a kid so after hearing about this place I was ready to roll. The ambiance is that of an old Elks Lodge or something -- just really old, all wood and Oklahoma rock. You could tell this was built in the 50s or 60s. My wife loves their hamburgers and fresh cut fries. I have fallen deeply in love with their chicken fried chicken. The gravy (which to me is what makes a good chicken fry) is unbelievable. Pair that with homemade mashed taters -- not this instant boxed potatoes many are selling nowadays -- and fried okra, wow it's pure heaven. The server says what's great about them is the Corn Flake breading, but i'm convinced it's the gravy that separates this from other places Followed that up with a trip to their dessert carousel. Oh my that strawberry cake. Or the peach cobbler with ice cream had me singing the last time. I'm to healthy to eat this every day, but boy if I could. . . Won't you go see Don?

Best Chicken Noodle soup in all of Oklahoma that I have found.
edna phillips
I love their tuna salad sandwich and they make the best banana/ strawberry cream pie I've ever had, I could get addicted to it, lucky it's several miles away. I'd have that pie every day. I've eaten many different things there, everything is great
Bill Hensley
One of the best restaurants in the metro area. I had a bowl of beef stew and a double cheeseburger, both very good. The server was super friendly and nice as well, as usual. They have custard pie, which I live, for dessert

I been coming since I was a little girl with my family for 32 years. Love the food and the service. They have the best pies and I love the chicken fry steak with the french fries. But a bit pricey and I will still come to this place with my children.

If I could give less I would. I had a Diet Coke with chicken fried steak with hashbrowns. Changed to water as the diet coke tasted awful the waitress response was I don't drink diet so I don't know. The chicken fried steak had NO flavor all I could taste was flour. The wannabe hashbrowns were greasy & were large & small chunks of potatoes couldn't even qualify as country style potatoes. Had to go to McDonald's to get a different meal for my son. Waitress was super friendly to another lady as they seemed to know her me & my son were just in the way. I will never be back.
Stan Ralstin
I have never been to this place before. I went with a couple of colleagues and I can tell you the food was excellent. One had a reuben, on had the chicken pot pie and I had a turkey/pepperjack club. The warm homemade bun it came on was delicious.

What a great place to gather with your family & friends & enjoy great food & delicious pie! Great service too!!! Chicken & noodles are a must! Don’s salad dressing is awesome too. If prefer they have a drive through!
Chuck Gates
Went in this morning for breakfast, and waitress never came to take drink or food order. We walked out and won’t be back.

I have been coming to this place for over 40 years. I will drive 10+ miles to get a large Chef Salad with Don’s Dressing.
Becky Williams
Delicious, home cooked style meal.......to die for hot rolls.......Great service.......I always love everything!
Janis Singleterry Tanksley
Great waitress and wonderful food! I had enough for an entire 2nd meal 😊
Joe Fountain
All I've ever eaten there is their chicken noodle soup which is as close to my grandmothers chicken and dumplings I've ever had. Very very good. And their home made pies alone are worth the drive.
Corinne Whitefield Williams
Delicious food and great service! I took my son for breakfast, and we recieved our food within 10 minutes of coming in. Everything was fresh and tasted great!
Bill Desjardins Sr.
I've eaten there on and off for 40 years. One of the first places I went to when I got stationed at Tinker in the 70's. Don't live in Mid Del anymore but when I get down there I always stop in. Great food. Service is excellent. Pies are numero uno
Mildred Majors
Love this place! Friendly service and good food, especially their chicken noodle soup !

Service/food both great! Would recommend to others.
Cindy Hudson
The food is delicious what ever you chose to eat. The Ruben and Potato Salad, and a piece of Coconut Pie for desert

My wife and I ate Lunch the other day the Meat Loaf was delicious and wife remarked about Pasta in her Chicken noodle soup was homemade. The Ice Tea is perfect.
I had not ate here in years and forgot the food is so perfect like home cooked.
Want to try a steak next time
Please let people know that you give Senior discount I was not informed and I am over 70
Thanks Don
People know your place all over the City!
Joseph Castellano
Service was pretty good food was adequate but thw pricing for two people of $50 with no dessert was a bit on the outrageous side . You would definitely be better off to find elsewhere to dine we didn't even order appetizers.
Alyssa Majors
A lot of the food is hit or miss, but honestly the very best chicken noodle soup in the world. Perfect for cold days or when you just want something hot to eat. Well worth the trip just for that.

The building is nice very cabin like, our waitress was very friendly. Now the food was OK but nothing special we had a breakfast and a chicken fried steak dinner for the price to eat there waffle House has way better tasting food for a fraction and if you want something a little more try Cafe Kacao which beats this place by far. First time to visit and likely to be my last.

More and more disappointing as time goes by. Don's Alley is continuing to slip in both service and quality of food. Cobbler is smashed pie with no attention paid to the crust. Waitresses neglect to bring out parts of your order, or wait until your party is served to tell you they are out of something. Cooks can be seen smoking in the kitchen. STAY AWAY.
Yolanda Puente
Only thing I've had here is their salad. The cobb salad or whatever it is called. Love their ranch salad is good, egg in the salad is a plus. Only thing I didn't like was the service went through the Drive-Thru the lady was kinda rude just not good as far as service other than that good.
Bilbao's
Love the food here , Breakfast , Lunch or Dinner always fantastic. Their pie is amazing. I love their omelets. The staff is always so nice and always has a smile for you.
Nigel Bunshaft
Went for breakfast. Service was slow although only about half the tables were occupied.

The waitress eventually took my drink order and brought back silverware and such.

Ordered the Western Omelette which comes with hash browns, biscuits & gravy, and a side of salsa. Food was good.

I miss the "Old Don's". I've been eating at Don's for almost 40 years, now. Don's has been a primary meeting place for my friends and family for decades. Before my Grandfather passed away, I would meet him weekly at Don's for breakfast, and my grandparents would eat there at least twice a week for dinner. Unfortunately, the quality of the food, and the service has gone steadily downhill over the last few years. Sure, some menu items are always great ( Chef Salad, Pizza Burgers, Omelettes, Chicken Noodle Soup, Chili, etc;), but other items (french fries, onion rings, chicken fried steak, hash browns, breakfast) have become inconsistent at best. At this point, I've pretty much given up on the place. I honestly hope that Don gets a decent crew in there soon, and the old place reverts to it's previously stellar performance.
Jon T.
I am actually very surprised by some of the negative reviews on here. We eat at Don's weekly. Going to Don's is like going back in time. The staff is always sweet and kind. If you are kind to them, they treat you like family. It's a slower paced environment and the staff is sassy. They joke with you and give you a little sass here and there, but that's what makes this place special. I can see how if you are rude they won't take it. Maybe the rude comments on here reflect that if you are a jerk, you don't have the right to take it out on the staff, and they will give it right back. My family and I like that.

We love their chicken noodle soup. It is legendary. Seriously, legendary. They always bring my daughter fresh steamed veggies, as she's not a year old yet. They know her name, and they are always kind.

I haven't been there one time and gotten bad food. Not once. They serve Classic flavors and get it right every time.

Love this place!. I come here often and love it. The food has always been great and the service as well. It's great down home cookin' and the atmosphere is homey as well. I also come to the drive-thru for take-out and again, the food and service are wonderful. I've been coming here for many years and recommend it to anyone and everyone. So far, no one has been displeased.

Loved ur food but wont be back. I have been coming to you for over 3 years and have always had descent service and but tonight drew the line the food has progressivly got worse over last few months but the service was aweful and food was nasty and didnt like they way i was treated while waiting for my order when i called to ask y i was missing certain things on my supreme nachos i got a smart remark and told to call back tomorrow i will b calling tomorrow but it will to b to get my money back
Greg
Impressively gross overpriced food. My family eats at don's for some strange reason off and on, but tonight was my first time in about 20 yrs, it was gross. I have had the steak fingers which basically resemble eating a sock covered in sand paper, they literally couldn't be more dry. They are very proud of their salads seeing as they offer an impressive selection of 3 of them, and the cheapest one is a small chef salad for 5.49, a small! Tonight I got a Reuben promptly 40 minutes after I ordered it, and it was dry and my mashed potatoes were bland, but it's ok, the gravy was also bland so it went horribly together. My water tasted bad, not sure how they achieved that but they did. And then after my aunt ordered onion rings, they informed her they were out of onion rings literally when they brought her food out to her with no sides, while other people sitting across from her were chomping down on onion rings that were brought out minutes before her order apparently just missed the cut. But it's ok, they offered her a free piece of pie for her trouble, how generous! Out of the 25 people that ate with us, the kids had their food brought out next to last, cause U know kids don't need to eat first and be occupied or anything. Dons relies on people who have eaten that food for generations and don't like change, well I won't go back, but now when I'm eating somewhere else and the service is bad and I say to myself "how much worse can it get?" I'll remember dons and feel much better

Comfort Food. I have been eating at Don's my whole life, and I am the 3rd generation of my family to eat there. Whenever I crave comfort food, the first place I want to go is /Don's. Everything is good, but some of my favorite dinners include chicken livers, fried catfish and chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and fried okra. The rolls are amazing! I always send my husband to Don's to pick up homemade chicken noodle soup when I'm not feeling well. The desserts are fantastic, and I can't wait until they make the pecan cream pie each fall.

The only complaint I have lately is the waitstaff. Not all of them are bad, but more often than not the waitresses I get are rude and act rushed. They don't seem to care for interacting with the customers. I still get a good waitress every now and then. I tend to order takeout more often than eating in and the staff in the drive through takeout area are much more attentive and kind.

Being Filmed For Discover Oklahoma Best Resturant. This place has been in business since 1955 and is still family owned and operated. I don't of to many other places that can say that any were in America today. The original owner Don Moore still cooks to this day with the rest of the family helping out. This place is a true American story. The food here is home cooking nothing frozen. The pies are made from scratch same with the rolls and cornbread and everything else in between. I would recommended this place to anybody. This place has served some famous people as well. This a favorite to this day of Toby Keith's as well some of the Sooner and Cowboy greats.

I am in love with this place! It's like stepping through a time warp and a breakfast version of cheers. Everyone knows everyone here. The prices are extremely reasonable considering the gargantuan amount of food they serve. We ordered three entrees and had too much food for our family of five. We will definitely be back!
Bonnie Davis
I ordered biscuits and gravy for breakfast. The biscuit was good, but the bland, chalk tasting gravy was gross. I was very disappointed. Their food is over priced for the quality you get.

It's not worth the poor attitude and service provided. I have never been to Don’s Alley before tonight. I was taken there by some family to enjoy what was supposed to be a popular and excellent early Thanksgiving dinner. We arrived together around five, and began to order.

Since it was the special, we all ordered the Thanksgiving dinner. We were informed that because they had so many orders, they were short on stuffing and it would take around forty minutes to arrive. We agreed to wait. Nothing about this review will be about how long we actually waited, since we expected a wait.

The issue started after we got our salad. The waitress saw that we had finished our drinks, and asked if we wanted refills. We did, though I requested water instead of a tea. She refilled two glasses of tea and went on serving the other tables she had. I did not get my water.

Mind you, this place was rather large and well suited to covering large parties. I had noticed, because there were two tables nearby that had served eight or nine people that left soon after we arrived. Those two tables remained unbussed for the entirety of our hour and a half stay at the place.

Our waitress was serving maybe five tables total, perhaps numbering twenty or so people. None of us were getting food, as most ordered the nights special. All that needed to be done was to serve the drinks until the chefs caught up. We finally reminded the waitress about my water. She took my glass and came back five minutes with more tea. I hadn’t not noticed the mix-up until the waitress had left.

She did come back to us and had our sides read, with most of our entrees coming up next. We each got our sides. One of them was mixed up, but we accepted the mistaken side, not worried. One of us was served our entrée, and we all waited for the remaining four of us to be served our entrée. While she was there, two of us, myself included, requested water.

Then we waited. She went to other tables, with new customers. They got their drink orders promptly. We waited. One of us had our main entrée, while the rest of us sat with a roll and some vegetables. This lasted about fifteen minutes. We are patient folk, generally, but we were seconds from walking out the door when the rest of our food was delivered. By then, the vegetables and rolls were cold, as was the single entrée brought to our table fifteen minutes ago.

We requested water again, and this time it was brought to us, with only another couple minutes wait.

The food was pretty good. The rolls were excellent. I don’t think the corn I got was more than something gotten from a can, and the stuffing had raw celery in it. The gravy was pretty good and went well with the turkey and mashed potatoes.

By this point, we were disappointed, but not upset. It had been our choice to wait, and we did get our food. We got up to go pay at the front. We were next in line when the employee at the register went to answer the phone in the office, a few steps behind the register itself.

She proceeded to have what sounded like a very mundane, gossipy conversation on the phone. For five minutes, while we waited. As we waited, a line grew behind us, about six groups long. The woman did not miss the growing agitation, but refused to finish her conversation.

Politely, the party member waiting at the register said he needed to leave soon, and could she ring him up.

She responded by telling the person on the phone the following, “I have to go. A customer is griping at me.”

This was probably an ill-used phrase, as our group and the people behind us heard it. Her tone was clearly annoyed, and it was evidently directed at her paying customers. We were indignant, but didn't raise our voices, and simply protested.

She then proceeded to explain that she was so sorry, but she had been talking to the owner of Don’s Alley, Don, and that he wouldn't let her get a word in to say she was busy. This was false, as we heard her reply several times. She continued to say she was sorry but that her boss liked to ramble and that it was hard to hang up on him.

We left, suitably annoyed for the poor service during the meal, but angry about the service when we were just trying to pay for our food. It was more than unprofessional, but insulting.

In my experience, Don’s has poor service, pretty good food, and isn't worth the time or the money to even consider. There are plenty of places that serve comfort food that won’t treat their customers like a burden or a distraction.

Not much "Thanks" to be giving. Tonight, a group of 5 of us went to Don's for the annual Thanksgiving dinner, it wasn't packed, there were several empty tables in both the front and back of our restaurant, an unusual experience for the night. After all 5 of us arrived, the problems started. First, we were told there was a 40 min wait for dressing. We agreed to the wait. Second, our waitress couldn't have been serving more than 5 tables, we counted, but, we never got our drinks refilled and repeatedly had to ask for water. Third, the food was served in pieces. Out first came the rolls, then the vegetables, then one persons food. Then finally after a 10 minute wait, the rest of us were served. By the time we were served it had been 2 hours. None of us know why we didn't walk out. Finally, and it was finally, when the time came to pay at the register, the cashier received a phone call as she was ringing up our meal. She then proceeded to talk on the phone for over 5, once again I counted, minutes. When one of our group, politely stated that "Excuse me, miss. I need to go." She then proceeded to complain to the person she had been talking to that "I need to go a customer is griping at me." She then complain and bemoaned to our group the entire time we tried to pay for our entirely unpleasant meal that she was talking to the owner and he was much more important than any of the 10 plus customers in line. In summary, these all add up to 4 reasons I will never set foot in this restaurant again.

How do you screw up a chef salad? Ask Don. We ordered jalapeno poppers and they were straight out of the box and into the fryer. $5 later and you have freezer burned appetizers. On a positive note, the pie was delicious. If you have to go here, just go for dessert.
Sarah Stone
The food is hit & miss. I have not been able to cook due to illness so I ordered the Salisbury steak, and bland would be an appropriate description. If I could get them to sample my Salisbury steak I'm confident they would ask me for my recipe. The roll was good, but the rest was blah
William Moore
Angels must have descended from the heavens above into the kitchen. The cooks turning mere ingredients into works of culinary delight. The waitresses move with the grace and speed of Greek goddesses. I heard a man ate here once and his taste buds exploded from pure delight! Former President Reagan named it a national landmark 10/10
Thundamama
Disrespectful staff. The food isn't bad, it's the staff that is the problem. VERY rude and unprofessional, not only the waitstaff, but the managment in particular. My family has been eating here since it was a drive-thru and I will never eat here again. I have never eaten at a resteraunt where the "family" and management feel that they can speak to their customers any way they wish because they aren't happy with a question that was asked. It's UNACCEPTABLE behavior.
OkieOmnivore
Best home cookin'. They have the best chicken livers and cream gravy on the planet. The little house salad is nothing fancy but everything is crisp and fresh. The dinner rolls are fluffy, warm and yeasty. My side dish was navy beans and they taste like my Grama's. I love Don's!
JJ
Yummy Pie. We ate there a couple of nights ago. The server was nice and pretty good at her job. The food serving sizes were pretty big. If you like meaty menu items then this is the place. Our group had mixed reviews. Most ordered a chicken fried steak or some other chicken item. Most of us really liked our food and would go back. A couple thought it was just okay. I can say the navy bean soup was pretty good. I wasn't impressed with the corn bread. I LOVED the pecan pie! I know I'll try this place again but earlier in the day.

Excellent food and service !!!

Still very good. Its been a couple of years since the last time I have eaten here, so I decided to pick up to go dinners, chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken and the chicken noodle soup, it was all so very good!! We loved their gravy, it is outstanding, the best we have tasted for chicken fry. The chicken and noodles were great too, I will be sure to go back to this place very soon!! yum!

Consistancy. My family and I began eating here in 1968, when the old building sat closer to the street and had Zebra wall paper, so we go back a ways, Don Moore is a fine gentleman who supported many kids sports and is an asset to the community !
I was in the area a few weeks ago and happened to see it ,and decided to stop for lunch, everything about the place was the same, same good service, same nice wait staff, I had a burger and asked that they not over cook it and it came out quickly and was as ordered.
The dessert corousel is a good place to look the other way because it is almost irresistable, the stew, cornbread, chicken noodle soup, chili are all legendary in Del City.
The dinner options (steaks ) are very good but slightly over-priced, a dollar an
ounce is enough for the steaks you will get here, although they come with salad &veg. plus choice of potato and bread, more than the usual spud&salad.
All in all a very good place to eat from nice civic minded folks, you won't be disappointed !
Fred
Biscuits and gravy. Awesome. As was the rest of the breakfast.
Bill Hensley
Great lunch today. I went to lunch at Don's today with my friend Clark. I got the fried chicken (which is oven-fried), with mashers and green beans. Uniformly excellent. The four pieces of chicken were plump and just the right amount of juicy. The crust was tasty, thin, and crispy. Mashers needed some more gravy, but not much more. The green beans were also very good. The iced tea was excellent, and the service was very good. My meal was around $12.00.
Michael Raymond Peace
If your looking for a Great Pastrami Sandwich or a Pastrami Burger this is the place they will make it for you just how you like it! My only complaint is the waitress as nice as she seemed was to preoccupied more with setting tables up than waiting on customers we had to wait long periods in between contact.
Mike
Love, love, love their chicken noodle soup. The noodles are more like flat dumplings. Comes in a huge bowl with some cornbread.
Kyle Gregory
Mixed bag. Diner food in a kind of quirky environment. I gave this a dislike, but you have to go once and get the salad dressings and pies. However, They are way overpriced for the lack of flavor in most dishes. Even so, the chicken and noodles (and beef and noodles when available), while far too salty, is pretty darn good and priced well. The pies are all delicious and the Don's dressing (which seems to be a mix between brown sugar, tomato soup, and sour cream) is wonderful. I think the Ranch is homemade as well and also quite delicious. Rolls are good. The chicken fry breakfast is good, but it's kind of hard to mess up chicken fried steak. Lots of older folks in this place as it seems to be living on from its past reputation.

Spaghetti is nasty, even for a diner. Burgers are decent, but not top notch. Chili is not good. Fries are average. Jalepeno poppers taste good dipped in Don's and Ranch.

Generally, the service is slightly slower than most diners unless you're dining alone and order the chicken and noodles or something like it.
Tom
Don's Pleases!. I've visited Don's Alley several times throughout the years and it's one of my favorites. Their Chicken Noodle/Dumplings Soup is by far the best I've ever had, anywhere anytime. It has large hand-rolled egg dough noodles and juicy chunks of white chicken that go very well on a cold day--or any day! The portion is very large so you won't need a salad or a side to go with it. Although, their dinner rolls are to die for and I always get one or two of them no matter what. The dinner rolls are fresh, hot, and HUGE! They bake them to the point where the top of them are a dark brown from the butter glaze and they melt in your mouth. They have a sweet, potatoe roll taste to them which reminds me of my mom's house.

I've had other items on Don's menu as well. Their fried chicken and fried breaded steak is amazing and so is their mashed potatoes.

For dessert, they have freshly made pies in a display case.

When you go to Don's alley, you will feel right at home. The food is great, prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly. The other patrons seem to be mostly senior citizens, so that tells you something right there.
Jamie Mullins
Great. I have been going to this restaurant for 15 years. It is always good food. The all around environment makes you feel at home. I would recommend this place if you are looking to enjoy your meal with your family, especially breakfast.
Nicole Miles
Great customer service and the food is great too. I couldn't eat there every week and not stay in the gym. Great in moderation.
Hutch
Good food, good service. Love their home made fries. Have eat there several times, I usually get the catfish and the better half gets a T-bone. We have always been happy with the food. The hush puppies they serve with the food is the only mediocre thing, they are pre-mades, but they serve a hot fresh home made roll with the meal also so it evens out.
Jennbunny58
Bad customer service. A large group of employees at my employer decided to order at this specific place. We called and asked Cindy to fax us a menu. She said she would. We called back 30 minutes later and she again said she would do this for us...another 30 minutes passed and we called again but this time the fax was broken and Moe the manager would not come to the phone either. We had never ate here and probably never will do to the lack of customer service provided.
CLYDE ADAY
Clyde's Opinion. My favorite dish is Corn Bread and Stew, but everything I have tried is excellent. Their deserts are great. I particularly like their strawberry banana cream pie, yum. Friendly people and nice environment. I like their drive-thru because it's quick and the food is packaged well. i think you should give them a shot. This place used to be a drive-in restaurant . I ate there in the 50's when I was in highschool. It did so well it eventually expanded to what it is today.
Marie
Best breakfast. My family and I go here ALOT! We love eating breakfast out on Saturdays and everytime we try a new place, we end up comparing it to Don's. Their bacon is thick and crispy, the eggs are cooked to order, and the biscuits= yum! Oh and the hash browns! *drool*. if you can get over the awful way people will park (seriously can you guys even SEE the lines??) then stop by and get ready for one of the best breakfasts you'll ever have!
Evelyn
The food was GREASY & bland. The service is slow. When we got our food some like fries were cold and some were warm and some were hot. The chicken strips were good though. First & last for me...

Next Generation. Don and his family have been feeding my family since the early 70's. Took my family here recently and they loved it! Steak fingers, cheeseburgers, hot steak sandwich, Indian Taco and small chef salad. Loved the salad dressing, hot rolls and especially loved the desserts. I've had the whole menu - breakfast, lunch and dinner - and it has remained consistently good throughout the years.

Awesome. Hungry?

The server says what's great about them is the Corn Flake breading, but i'm convinced it's the gravy that separates this from other places

Followed that up with a trip to their dessert carousel. Oh my that strawberry cake. Or the peach cobbler with ice cream had me singing the last time.

I'm to healthy to eat this every day, but boy if I could. . .

Won't you go see Don?

Excellent! I,ve been going there since I was little. My favorite is the hot steak sandwich or the chicken fried steak. Sooo good! My mom loves the chicken livers dinner.

FREEZER BURN. It was frustrating to eat here because the food could have been great. Every single thing we ate had the same weird smell and taste to it and we realized at the end that every thing had been put in the freezer and had freezer burn. Even the pies. Food wasn't bad just not good either.

This restaurant is an original, dating back to 50's(?). This is a great place to go for a business lunch, lunch with co-workers or take you family. Reasonable prices and friendly staff, I think they're still family! Try the pork cutlet it's great. I also enjoy the chicken noodle soup, almost as good as homemade

THUMBS UP. I genuinely hate Del City -- it's so ugly and tawdry. As a result, I went to Don's Alley fully expecting to loathe the food there.

I was, however, very pleasantly surprised. Now, this is good ol' Southern home cooking -- don't go in expecting health food, k?

The onion rings are out of this world there, and the catfish is very nice, too. I didn't care for the hush puppies (fake -- out of a bag), but everything else was very good.

Great service, too -- very friendly and helpful.

Pizza+Hamburger=Pizza Hamburger. I always get the pizza hamburger. Always. As a kid, I picked Don's as my birthday restaurant, solely because of the pizza hamburger. Most of the burgers are good. I'm not a fan of a lot of the comfort food. And what's with the mashed potatoes? They're extremely dry and lumpy, and I understand a little bit of skin, but the ratio is way too high. The dessert is always spectacular. Like your grandmother made it. I'm sure it's someone's grandmother. Just try walking by the pie carousel without trying any. i don't think it's possible!

Best burgers in town, good variety of choices on the menu, friendly staff and good service. Dining room is attractive & spacious, always clean. The drive thru window & walk-in counter are a nice convenience for getting take-out. I've been going here since I was a kid & I can remember when they still had carhops. A lot has changed since then, but still the same great food & service.

Patty Plus. Get the Patty-Melt and any dessert and you will have had a wonderful meal.

Well, basically ANY entree item and a dessert and you will have had a wonderful meal.

RE: dessert...find out what is available before you even order your drink. The desserts are made from scratch each day and once it is gone, it's gone for the day (especially if you are there for dinner). So order the dessert FIRST and then let it wink at you while you eat your entree, lol.

Order the Chicken Fried Steak!. When comfort food is in order, get it. It's worth it.

Breakfast in the Alley. I wouldn't have had my breakfast any other way. This place was a hidden gold mine. I plan on stopping here whenever I come back to OKC. The food was so good and I can't believe the great prices! Coffee was excellent and so was the service!

Down home, country/diner style food.. Yeah, not alot to say here that isnt gonna be obvious the minute you sit down at Don's.

The pies are awesome. The food is varied, down homey, and delicious. The crowd is mostly elderly, but they don't bite, prolly don't have teeth.

I can think of nothing bad to say here about Don's, they do charge a bit more than other diners I guess ( a buck or two).

Oh and they have a drive-thru, which is a pretty awesome/quick way to take home something non-fast food.

Same as it was 20 yrs ago when I came with my grandma! They serve breakfast all day but don't give you the menu so just ask for one!

Great breakfast. I love having Saturday breakfast here and I always swing by to get the chicken & noodles when I am not feeling good.

Overpriced mediocre uninspired. Don's has it's crowd of loyal followers, it's true. I went w a group of friends and tried several dishes but found nothing I'd ever want to come back for. Food wasn't bad, it just wasn't very good.

Good Home Cookin'. Don's opened years and years ago, under the loving hand of Don Moore and family. It's still in the family, and Don still walks around greeting the patrons. This is the home of homemade pies and cakes and chicken fried steak and chicken and noodles and on and on. Simple, generous, consistent good country home cookin'.

Don’s has been around as far back as I can remember. It’s on SE 29th street, between Sooner and Sunnylane in Del City. Don’s has family comfort food. I’ve had burgers, steaks, beef stew, CFS, and a lot of other stuff there, and I can’t think of a single thing I did not like. The CFS and beef stew is especially good. Today I went to lunch at Dons with work friends. I had a double cheeseburger and a bowl of chili. The cheeseburger was perfect, good beef, seared and firm and with good beef flavor. The bun was even nicely grilled. The chili (no beans!) was beefy and not greasy, great taste, and just spicy enough to add some extra flavor without burning a hole through the roof of you mouth. I had iced tea, and as always, it was fresh brewed and really good. Don’s was pretty busy today and the servers seemed a bit overworked. The dining room was pretty much filled, and it took just under 1.5 hours to get from Tinker to Don’s and back. My check was $11.00. Like this: Like Be the first to like

You can order the chicken and dumplings (actually called “Chicken Noodle Soup” on the menu) in two sizes ($4.49 for the small and $5.49 for the large – see a pic). I recommend getting the large order, not because the small order is too small (it’s actually an ample size) but because if you get the small you’re going to regret getting to the bottom of that bowl. If you go with the large you might not even see the bottom
