Nice restaurant with a laid back feel but top
Notch food, service and atmosphere. The food is delicious with fair portions for the prices. Have the deviled eggs appetizer for sure.
The bar looked to be well stocked and their drink menu had a lot of appealing choices but it was a business lunch so we didn’t get to try any. I’ll get back and give those a spin sometime.
All in all if you’re looking for bbq this is a great spot and it’s a little more upscale so it would be a good date or socializing location.

A local recommended this location for BBQ. Sam our server went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of during our visit. The food was amazing!! Thank you for a great experience!!!!

We got the sampler app, and everything else with potato salad, green beans and Mac & cheese.
Ribs were great, brisket was good... really enjoyed the sausage and BBQ sauce. BBQ sauce was the best we ever had. Hopefully they can bottle it up. Cornbread was delicious but a bit dry for my taste. All the sides were great.

Iron Star BBQ is a haven for barbecue enthusiasts, offering a delectable fusion of Southern flavors and rustic charm. Nestled in a refurbished 1920s-era building, the restaurant effortlessly combines a cozy ambiance with a menu that pays homage to traditional BBQ while adding its own modern twists.
The star of Iron Star BBQ is undoubtedly the meat—smoked to perfection, tender, and bursting with rich flavors. Whether it's the succulent brisket, melt-in-your-mouth ribs, or the mouthwatering pulled pork, each dish showcases the artistry of slow-cooked barbecue. Accompanying sauces and sides complement the meat beautifully, providing a balanced palette of tastes.
The rustic décor, complete with exposed brick walls and wooden accents, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for gatherings with friends and family. The staff's friendly and attentive service adds to the overall positive dining experience.
While the focus is on carnivorous delights, Iron Star BBQ does cater to vegetarian diners with a modest selection of meatless options. The beverage menu, though not extensive, offers a good variety of drinks to pair with the barbecue feast.
In conclusion, Iron Star BBQ stands out as a must-visit for barbecue aficionados. Its harmonious blend of traditional flavors, cozy setting, and attentive service make it a top contender for anyone seeking an authentic and satisfying BBQ experience.

This was my first time eating at this establishment. The food was absolutely fantastic!! The atmosphere was nice. It seems high class. The service was extremely excellent. They constantly come check on you to see if you need more to drink or want to order something else. They very polite and respectful. I plan to eat here again. They were quite busy when we ate there. They also have a banquet room, I would assume you could book for an event.

The beef brisket was wonderful. Corn bread was well made. The ribs were not bad and didn't pull off the bone. They were just ordinary without their BBQ sauce. The Mac and cheese was very good. Service was OK. Our server seemed very distracted and couldn't answer the basic question of what is their specialty. Then when I rephrased and asked what is their best food then he was able to answer. It was a bit loud.

I've been coming to Iron Star for years...and I have NEVER had a bad meal or service there!!! The atmosphere was amazing. Their playlist they had going was stellar...nothing but bangers. Mack, our server, was right on w/ our service. And the food...OMGaga...that food...ribs & brisket was tender, deviled eggs are always a choice, & the sides we delicious. Literally nothing besides bones where left on our plates. Highly recommend.

My favorite smoked chicken and fried okra is still as good as when I first had it about 15 years ago. And because we don't have a chance to go often, it's even better. The BBQ club with fries is also wonderful and plenty filling. I always have leftovers from the 1/2 smoked chicken. The service was great- our server was attentive and polite.

Love Iron Star!
I love the lighting, atmosphere, customer service, menu selections, and portions. The Grilled Salmon, brussel sprouts & carrots, and Mac and Cheese are delish! The salmon is a nice portion seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Brussels sprouts and carrots are grilled just right giving it the right amount of crust. Now, let's talk about Mac and Cheese. it's some of the best I've tasted. The meal with a sweet tea was $30. Perfect for a date night also.

So, let's talk about it! 🤌🏿The salmon salad is delicious! It's a nice portion, full of flavor, and well constructed (not just contents thrown on a plate 🙄). It comes with a piece of salmon; perfect for just the right amount of protein and substance - it doesn't overpower the salad. Yes! Go order this salad!!

The barbecue is very good. I think their steaks are some of the best in Oklahoma City. I had always just ordered barbecue and decided to try the filet. That's what I get almost every time now.

What a great place.
I was seated immediately. The service was good and quick. I ordered the St Louis rib combo with smoked turkey. My sides were collards, sweet potato mash, and potato salad. The meats were really good. The collards were a bit sour. I could have used more vinegar or other seasoning for that, but it was still OK. The place was Nicky lit. The music choice was great. The vibe was excellent.
I enjoyed my visit and so will you. This place was really nice. I recommend

This place was great. I got the 2 meat and Mac and cheese with roasted Brussels and carrots. So good. Chopped Brisket and Turkey. Both fantastic. Mac was ok. They have a nice drink option as well. Kylie was the bartender. She was so sweet and helpful. Very fun crew. Worth repeating. Thankful for a great experience.

Final got here. Typical upscale urban bbq approach with a lot of space for groups! Excellent textured ribs and beef brisket! Sausage trio was solid too.
Sides - fried okra was whole - interesting approach. Sweet potato side was solid.
Dessert - chocolate chip bread pudding to go very solid.

Five Star all the way. Great Staff and Waitress, Waiter. I asked the Waitress for her recommendation and She was very kind. The Waitress told us about a BBQ Club Entree that was absolutely Divine. Thank You Iron Star for the Great first time eat for my Son. He said he has never had a entree like that, and said himself that it was Top Notch. Thank You Cora for the Great Hospitality and the Great Service Ma'am. The Next time i will go and stay instead of just driving and returning back home. THANK YOU IRON STAR FOR GIVING ME AND MY SON AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE. Him his first time, me my second time.

Loved my beef brisket sandwich topped with southwest slaw. The fries were so good! My meal had pickle slices that were a little bit sweet, a little bit sour and spicy. Great accompaniment to my sandwich.. Beautiful interior with a unique hammered copper bar. They were observing social distancing and had a mask protocol in place.

Very refreshing menu and atmosphere parking is a tad small, but then that changes as you walk in to see a very family and pride friendly barn rustic space. Staff is a little understaffed but very eager to serve food. Iron star urban has great BBQ and the cocktails are recommended...

Brisket was a 10/10! Incredible pork ribs, not falling off the bone, but they didn't need to be either. The sweet potatoes were seriously addictive, highly recommend. Excellent service, clean and quiet too.

Destiny was the manager and Scott was our server. Scott was a fantastic server. The entire staff was great and food was delicious 🤤. I am in a wheelchair, and they accommodated to my needs. Thanks a lot Scott, when I'm out of my wheelchair I'll be back to see you for another great meal. Great job today, and I look forward to seeing you again very soon.

We happened to be in OKC for lunch and decided to try this place. We were greeted promptly, but waited a few minutes to be seated. We were given warm towels to clean our hands. Our order included a St. Louis ribs plate with Mac and cheese and baked beans. And a combo plate with sliced brisket and ribs two sides of sweet potatoes and seared green beans. Our waitress brought us Cornbread that was delicious. Our food was filling and delicious the best brisket I have had in years. The ribs were tender and we were offered 2 types of sauce. The service was great. I will reccomend to family and friends.

I really love this place! The BBQ meats are good, but so are a lot of BBQ meats in Oklahoma. I ALWAYS order the veggie plate with seared green beans, Dutch oven sweet potatoes, French fries well done and a side salad! It’s so good!! Really, all of their sides are flavorful and cooked to perfection! I just particularly like those four best! Been many times and will continue to eat there. Service is always top notch. The place is really loud when it’s busy, which I don’t like at all. Can’t talk/hear your dinner guests. It’s annoying. I’d go more often if it wasn’t that loud.

We had a really nice meal . The nacho plate was great . I had the chicken and turkey , the chicken might have been the best I’ve had in years ... the turkey was good but a tad dry but I get it it’s so lean . Fancy Mac and Cheese was awesome
We will be back

My husband and I had a reservation here before a concert. We were seated as soon as we arrived and our table was already set with water and sliver. This was a great touch. Our waitress was knowledgeable and the things she recommended were all delicious. Other servers came by and refilled our drinks so we never lacked on our water and fountain drinks. Our food was out to us within 15 minutes! It was so good. I had the chicken and ribs and my husband had the turkey and ribs. We both had macaroni and cheese and the okra fried hard (recommend by our server). They were awesome. The cornbread was good, but they need to add some sugar to the jiffy mix they are using. The only downside was the noise level. It was loud in the restaurant and once it filled up it became difficult to hear table conversation.

The bread pudding's INSANE, and the salads here are really nice. Tasty ribs, too.

Love the collard greens and cornbread here, and am wild about the okra.

I hate the back room policy, though -- it's prohibitively expensive to get a table in the (ample and quieter) back room -- even on a weeknight. (There's a per head minimum for these tables, and the minimum's prohibitively high, IMHO.)

Started with Deviled eggs and bacon wrapped Quail, highly impressed with both. Got St. Louis ribs and pulled pork with Mac and braised collard greens. Never tried collard greens before so not sure how to compare theirs but wow they were great. Upscale BBQ done different but different was definitely good here.

My favorite barbecue restaurant in the area. They have corn everything. I'm not a huge BBQ fan, but I do really like this place. Good atmosphere and service.
Crtrluvr
What an awesome lunch today. I got the smoked prime rib sandwich and my husband got the smoked club. Both were great and the sides are wonderful too. Got the corn that was so flavorful and the potato salad was amazing and I'm a snob when it comes to that. The okra was great too.

Stopped here for dinner. It was good.

Had the Charred Jalapeño Pimento Cheese appetizer. A good sized scoop of pimento cheese along with bread triangles and a jalapeño pickled assortment of pearl onions, olives, peppers, and gerkins. Pretty good for starters.

Had the Black Pepper Crusted Prime Rib with Barrios Street Corn and Potato Salad. The Prime Rib was done correctly and had a nice hickory smoke flavoring. The Barrios Street Corn was a grilled ear of corn with seasonings and finely grated fresh Mexican cheese. Really nice and sweet tasting. The potato salad was good but needed a pinch of salt, in my opinion, to bring out its great flavors.

All in all a good meal. A bit pricy, but a very good value.

We had our first dinner last night at Iron Star to celebrate our anniversary & catch up with some old friends. We started off with the cornbread muffins, which were exactly how they should be. Slightly sweet with pieces of jalapeño, very tasty. I had the pulled pork with the Dutch oven sweet potatoes & the braised collard greens. Everything was really delicious & the portions were great. A little more than I could eat but enough that you don't feel like you got cheated. We finished our meal with the peach crisp, which was OK but nothing to write home about. The peaches weren't sweet and the crust was all stuck in the dish. Highlights of the night were the greens & my drink, the Crispin Cider. So so good! The food is good, service was ok...I definitely think if you want a good bbq dinner in a little more upscale setting, you should give them a visit!

Can we say YUMBO?! Ribs to the turkey to the Mac and cheese. All so very yummy. I always leave full and happy, just like you should feel after smashing some bbq. My mouth is watering just thinking of this.

Great okra, made with whole spears, nice and crispy.
Good salads and of course the bbq is yum!
If you like cornbread you'll love there twist on it

Good food and drink.. Great BBQ Brisket Sandwich. Local brew on tap was nice and cold. Manager, Shawn, and our waiter, John, were friendly and made us feel welcomed. We'll definitely be back.

Terrific Mother's Day brunch. We had Mother's Day brunch, arriving at opening with no reservation but immediately shown to a table
in the lower dining area. I go to this great restaurant for two things, pimento cheese burger and fried whole
okra. It a a tasty treat much enjoyed. The husband loves the brisket and sides. Service was excellent just
like the cuisine. I read complaints about portion size, theirs are perfect. Perhaps if more restaurants practiced
this ,obesity in America would be less of a problem!!

What happened to this place?. This used to be my favorite BBQ restaurant...until recently. The last three times I've eaten ribs or brisket here, the meat was dry and flavorless. Iron Starr had the best ribs, but not anymore. Not only has the meat gone downhill, but the portion size has been cut by a third. I'm a tiny woman and I still leave hungry. Three strikes, you're out. I will not return.

Iron what. The food isn't bad, but I have had better. The host was apparently having a bad day which of course didn't help any. The waitress was excellent made me feel like chic fil-a, if you know what I mean

Not worth the money by a long shot. Went to Iron Star after hearing rave reviews from so many people. Here's what I found out...these people must eat like birds. When I pay 14.95 for a sausage dinner that says it includes three links, I expect three links- not 4 slices from each link. That's right 12 slices of meat the size of half dollars. That's it. I actually asked the waitress if they gave me the lite portion by mistake. The sides were a small cup of beans and a small portion of mac and cheese. My kids servings of mac and cheese were larger than mine. My wife got the lite portion of sliced brisket and got two slices of brisket less than an inch wide and about 2.5 inches long.

I understand this is supposed to be an upscale place, but that doesn't have to equate with stingy. The sad thing is the food tasted very good, but I would never go back, unless the portions were significantly upgraded or the prices were brought into line with the portions. Good Egg you guys really need to rethink how you want this restaurant to be viewed. right now it reeks of one thing. Stingy. That's not a good look for such a solid restaurant group.

Better BBQ elsewhere in the city.. Went here expecting some out of this world bbq but ultimately it left me wanting something from a chain bbq place instead.

First, the portions. You have seen the pictures of the little white plate with two sides and a serving of meat. That's it. That picture isn't a lunch serving. That is what you get for $14.95. Two small sides and a small serving of meat. I feel like if you went to a chain bbq place 14.95 would get you a lot more. Sure it's supposed to be "specializing in fine dining" but I want to leave the place feeling like I actually ate something. I would hate to see what the lite portion looks like.

Second, the food. I had the pulled pork entree with mac-and-cheese and corn pudding. The pulled pork was dry and flavorless. I expected the pulled pork to be outstanding because that is a staple of most BBQ places but I felt it was very bland. The dinner came with some BBQ sauce that tasted like it came from a bottle. Those two things were the most disappointing things concerning the food. If you can't get pulled pork right then you aren't a legit BBQ place. The mac-and-cheese was okay. My wife was recommending it as her favorite side but even she said last time it was better. It had no real cheese flavor at all and was made of up maybe at most 10 noodles. The corn pudding shouldn't even be called corn pudding. It was pretty much just corn. Sure they added some spices, maybe some bread crumbs. It was probably the best thing on the plate.

Third, the prices. Come on. 14.95 for the pulled pork entree? BBQ for 14.95 I should have a doggy bag or to go box with me when I leave. I realize they are part of the Good Egg group and their other places are fine dining also and I've been to some and really enjoyed their food and willing to pay what I did at those other places. But at this place it just wasn't worth it.

I definitely wouldn't recommend it, I know of a BBQ food truck that's way better. And if anyone suggests we go back I will be suggesting other options.

Other Reviews are Wrong. We went to this place on a Saturday night. We won't be back. We didn't have to wait for seating. We went here because they had rave reviews on google, with over 4.5 stars out of 5. I'd give this about 2.5 out of 5. Food tasted alright, but portions couldn't be further from large. Who puts a thin slice of prime rib on a prime rib sandwich? They do. All of there sides were child-sized. Fancy mac & cheese, is what we really call pasta alfredo, and consisted of about 3 forkfuls of pasta. There has got to be better barbecue out there.

Food was cold, big portions, chicken n ribs were good, brisket was dry, they over charged us with the two combo

Going Downhill FAST! Good Egg, STEP IT UP!. Iron Star was my go to BBQ place at one point. Lately my last few visits have been less than satisfactory. Had a reservation for 10 during lunch today. Our table wasn't ready until about 10 minutes after our reservation, no big deal. The sad part is when we were seated we were crammed into two small tables. We ordered, waiter was nice no issues there. Food took longer than normal but still not that big of a deal. The tipping point was the poor quality cold food. Long wait and poor tasting cold food, never a good combo.

Word of mouth advertising is key with so many new concepts opening in OKC. I was an avid support of Iron Star, but I will think twice about referring it in the future.

Don't waste your money!. My date and I went to Iron Starr tonight for dinner. We heard this place was one of the best bbq places in OKC. We were not impressed. We were sat quickly at a wobbly table that the manger came and up something under to keep it from wobbling. The server was pleasant, but it took 5 minutes for my date to the bottle of beer he ordered. We had drank half our waters by the time it came. We ordered the combo meal, which consisted of 2 meats and 2 sides for $15.00 and an extra $5.00 if we wanted to add chicken. We figured that would be more than enough for 2 people. We got 2 pieces of chopped brisket, 4 ribs, and a chicken half a piece. 1 scoop of mac and cheese and 1 scoop of piece. That would have been enough except the mac and cheese was runny, the ribs tender but had NO flavor, the chicken was so dried out it literally tasted heat lamp stale, and the bbq sauce was like sweetened ketchup. The potato salad and brisket were the only decent things on the plate. My date finished his dinner because he hates being wasteful, but I could not eat that dreadful chicken. Then after it was all said and done they tried to upcharge us $3.00 more dollars saying we got extra meat ..the 2 pieces of briskett. I explained their menu verbage to the manager who seemed in a hurry because she had been pulled out of a staff meeting at 3:30 in the afternoon. At least they took the $3.00 off our overcooked heat lamped lacking excuse of bbq.

Delicious BBQ. What's not to like here? It's all so good. The homemade pimento is to die for and the ribs and brisket are the best. It is always busy, but I like going late after the crowd and sitting at the bar. The buttermilk pie is also a must try here.

UPDATE: I have been back many times since writing this review and we are always pleased with the food.

Cornbread and Quail. Every once in a while you get the hankering for something that tastes down south. Maybe a bit of barbecue with interesting side items that aren't as bland as paper napkins. Try the cornbread, the quail and the mac and cheese. I personally have never been impressed with their standard barbecue items. The sauce can be described as slightly mustardy in flavor; not quite memphis style. The one element it tends to be lacking is texture. The service is great and the bar is amicable to most anything you can imagine. When you want barbecue and you want to change that concept up a bit look for the fusion at Iron Star. Try the less expected items on the menu for a fuller experience.

My husband and I had a late lunch here yesterday. We ordered the charred jalapeño pimento cheese appetizer. It was delicious with spicy and briny notes from pickled peppers. We had the sliced beef brisket and turkey/ St. Louis ribs. Meat was tender and spiced well. The sides were delicious too. Corn pudding was rich and macaroni and cheese were not overly cheesy. Our server was prompt with refills and very courteous. Our first dining experience in OKC was a success.

Disappointed. Our server, Morgan, was great...attentive, pleasant. My pulled pork was a bit dry. My wife ordered the prime rib, medium. When it arrived it had grill marks on it and looked like a rib eye steak. We've had this plate in past visits, and it was never served this way before. One of our guests ordered salad as her main course, it was wilty looking and not inviting. The food was not as good as we had hoped. We've been several times in the past, so we could compare.
Very disappointing, I'm not sure why they did the prime rib the way it was done/served? We were there early, so one would think there would have been an end cut, medium/medium rare, without grilling it.
There are better places in town, so we may not be visiting this one again soon.

Making BBQ their own. I'm not a BBQ purest by any means so for people like me it's a bit subjective. That said, Iron Starr is one of my favorites. Tasty ribs, an awesome 3 meat BBQ club, a surprisingly sophisticated Mac & Cheese, and a delicious corn pudding. The desserts are killer as well. Chocolate chip bread pudding, buttermilk pie, and a piece of chocolate cake a table of 4 can share.

My review. I have been to iron starr bbq three times and have enjoyed it each time i have went. the food is awesome. the thing i like most is the corn cassserole that they make. if u ever get a chance u should try it. :)

Good when they're good; pretty good even when not. Our first night on the road to California we enjoyed a meal at Urban Starr. Even though it was a BBQ place, I got 4 side items- sweet potatoes, collard greens, fried okra, and cornbread. The sweet potatoes and collard greens, two of my usual favorites, were the low points, albeit still tasty. The cornbread was different than I'd usually had- sweeter and more dense- but great! The okra stole the show. Whole, deep fried okra... yum. Dipped it in the BBQ sauce. My mom got the pulled pork and brother got the ribs. I tried a little of both and they were spectacular! My grandmother got the brisket tacos and seemed to enjoy those as well. Overall great visit! We will return if we are ever in the area again.

Iron Starr needs some giddy up. I was a first time visitor to Iron Star this evening, and I was eagerly greeted, and hosted by one of the most friendly staff's in all of OKC! Each employee greeted me and my guest with warm, and welcoming smiles.
I was able to book a table through my phone 30 minutes prior to my visit, and we had no problems with our check in and seating. We even received a nice booth at my request.
Our service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. I wanted suggestions on what to try for our first time. We were suggested the bacon wrapped quail appetizer, and we decided to go for it. We happily slugged on delicious ice tea as we waited, and our appetizer arrived within minutes of placing the order. It is not the most beautiful of plates; At a glance, the quail bites looked like testicles of some sort, the shape and color both grossed me out. I couldn't decipher which was the quail meat, and which was the bacon- both were a strange grayish, charred color. They were in a strange orange colored, apricot flavored jam. The quail meat was overcooked...but wrapped in bacon- the bite itself was salty, smoky, and bacon-y. The surprise element of the dish was a little slice of jalapeño inside. It didn't add any real heat, but nicely warmed the palate. The quail bites were awkwardly accompanied by one piece of cornbread, though there were clearly two of us sharing a plate. The cornbread had a wet consistency, and fresh corn flavor...but it was lacking in seasoning.
The staff kept our tea glasses full, and the lovely manager Kimberly stopped over to introduce herself, and welcome us. I can't say enough good things about this staff! She complimented us on our pick of appetizer, and said her quick goodbye.
Our main courses arrived in a nice amount of time after the appetizer. I ordered the sliced prime rib sandwich with a side of Mac n' Cheese. The draw to the mac n' cheese was that it is made with gruyere...my favorite! This plate was much more appetizing- the sandwich was cut into two parts, and sandwiched between them was some fresh au jus. The Mac and Cheese less than appetizing in appearance. You can't dress up a bad mac and cheese with some parsley pieces. TACKY! The sauce was runny, and spreading all over my plate and into my sandwich. The macaroni was dreadfully overcooked, and mushy to the bite. The fancy cheese sauce had made it's way all over my plate, and I unhappily chased it around with my soft pasta. Sadly, the sauce was unseasoned, and lacking in...a lot.
The sandwich had lovely caramelized onions, and I happily sopped up au jus with my bread. I wish they would use a different type of bread, a crusty bun would make the sandwich SO much more enjoyable! The meat and sandwich stuffings were hot, but the bun itself was not. I would prefer a toasty, or even smoked bun- yum!
I was not at ALL prepared for the level of spice the pickle slab presented..POW!
My guest ordered a hamburger, and was seemingly pleased with it's presentation and taste. He was not a fan of the sweet potatoes, but he was a big fan of the ice tea as well!
Next time I order food to go, I will be sure to check the bag before I leave. I had ordered a meal to go for my man, and my order was missing things I had paid for. (Order of cornbread, and the side to the sandwich).

We visited Iron Starr for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon. It was a nice place with comfortable chairs and an enviting atmosphere. The main dishes we had (ribs, chicken, and pulled pork) were very flavorful and great. The sides were good but not great. My wife liked the rest room (hooks on the wall for her purse, nice touch) it's big and clean. They do have a gluten free menu if you need it. We will be back, it's just that good.

Tasty. The atmosphere was awesome and the food was delicious. Didn't have room for dessert. I saw another table get the dessert cake and it was HUGE. Music was 80s and a little loud, but okay for a Friday night. They did everything perfect. The silverware was brought out after we sat down, I hate when I sit at a place that has silverware already there. No telling what germs could be on it. They offered dessert, which was nice of them. They kept our drinks filled. I looked at the bar and it was nice, mirrored back with pretty liquor bottles facing out. Place was clean. We will be back again :)

Good food good service! I had the BBQ club with Mac and cheese.

"MMMMM" GOOD. We went to Iron Star for lunch, we have been wanting to go for some time but just did not get there. Parking is difficult, unless you lucky and get there as someone is backing out. Very nice decor, clean, spacious and busy. We arrived about 11:40 had an immediate seat, Rachel our server was spot on, ready for our drink order, ready to answer questions on the menu. Just what you are looking for in a server. I ordered the St Louis ribs, (light) 4 very meaty, tender, juicy ribs, cornbread(with whole kernal corn) I chose, mac and cheese, a white cheese concoction that was creamy and flavorful with noodles. superb, and corn pudding. Nothing to rave about but very good. Sauce on the side, the way I like it, I first want to taste the meat and seasoning and then add sauce to it. "Sauce was very good, Not so good that I wanted to bath in it, but I licked my fingers. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, She is not a coleslaw fan (it comes IN the sandwich) but tried it anyway. She is still not a fan. PLUSES: Siverware was metal, strong and sturdy, Cloth napkins and a warm wet towel to clean up with after the ribs. I need a bbq fix once a week and this will be in the rotation from now on.

Bad Customer Service. Do not make reservations for this establishment unless you have a deep enough wallet to pick up the entire tab of your party. On reservations of 20 or more the entire meal must be on 1 check. When asked about it, they told us that if we could not afford to do so, they would cancel our reservations.

Bad Customer Service. Do not plan on making reservations here unless you have a big enough wallet to pick up the whole tab. On reservations of 20 or more you must be on one ticket. When asked about it, they said that if we were unable to do one check they would cancel our reservations.

Not their night. I am a 3rd time customer for this restaurant. The first time I came here several years ago (circa 1999) it was fantastic. The 2nd time was about a year ago in 2012. The food was very mediocre. I had the ribs and macaroni. The ribs were bland and the macaroni was absolutely nothing but watery noodles. This time I forgave and tried the ribs and chicken combo with macaroni and cheese and corn pudding. The ribs were good but the chicken was a large breast that had not been treated with any flavor, salt, or pepper and seemed to be boiled? It left a horrible taste in my mouth. The macaroni and cheese was still just noodles in water with a chalky wanna be cheese like substance. The corn pudding tasted okay but seemed like a melted bar of cream cheese with a can of corn dumped in. I figured maybe at least they would have spiced it up or put some kind of roasted pepper or something in it. Next time I decide to eat BBQ I will be looking elsewhere. I gave this restaurant 3 stars for my first good experience here in the 90's. If you value flavor you may want to seek other options. Cheers.

More than good BBQ. Menu is varied enough for all tastes. I am not a huge BBQ fan, yet I chose this place for our monthly supper club to visit on 1-8-14. There were 9 in our group. We arrrived at 5:45-ish and were seated right away. We were seated in the 2nd dining room. Very spacious, didn't feel all crowded up with the neighbors. Our server was Samantha.
We started off with a few appitizers: Deviled eggs with pepper ceviche, very flavorful, loved the ceviche with just the right amount of heat for my taste. Iron Starr Cornbread was moist and tasty.

Food for the 9 of us arrived promptly. Additional servers helped deliver so it all arrived hot and at the same time.
My burger. Let me say I have a personal issue with my meat being done. No pink at all. Done. Completely done. I know chefs do not like to desecrate a perfectly good cut of meat by cooking it beyond med-well. I ordered the 7 oz. black angus Pimento Cheese Burger completely done. Samantha asked me to check the doneness as she delivered it. It was cooked completely done, no pink but still had some juciness to it. (As much as an angus cut can have.) The grilled jalapenos, crispy bacon and homemade pimento cheese made it perfect. The hot fries were crisp on the outside and light and fluffy inside. As they should be.
The hot smoked salmon dinner with avacado-lime butter was "the best meal I'd had out in a while" according to my friend. There was a misque on his order with a wrong side. The additional server (turned out to be the manager) apologized and went to get the correct side. He apologized again and let us know that the mistake was in the kitchen.
The other menu item that was ordered was the HUGE Smokestack Nachos as the meal instead of an appetizer. The flavors were awesome and the portion was huge.

The sides we had: Fancy mac and cheese, whole fried okra, dutch oven sweet potatoes and corn pudding were all agreeably delicious and well prepared. Can't wait to try some of the others.

There were several items that are "southwest" and pepper based. The pickle slice served on side of the burgers and sandwiches was spicy. For my taste, they were perfect: bit of heat to the bite and on the backside but not so hot that you can't enjoy the flavors and what you're eating. One of the ladies said the slaw and pickle was way, way too hot for her. Personal preference. (Wimp :)

DId anyone order BBQ? Yes. The chopped brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich. All were fresh tasting, moist, not overly smoked or sauced. The serving size along with the side was plenty for the ladies that ordered them.

I think the prices are in line with the quality of food. Service was top notch. Kuddos to Samantha. Overall a very pleasant dinner and food experience. All of us agreed we would return to try other dishes and perhaps dessert. The only issue could be parking.

Absolute great place to eat! Amazing food and customer service. One time I had a to go order that was missing a side and they actually delivered it to my house along with two desserts. Dedicated to please customers

Very Good!!!. Fourteen of us went to eat last night and I must say even with a large party service was excellent and the food was outstanding. I had the chicken fried steak and it was yummy. Creamed corn was also good. Will go back.

Great Food!. On my visit I had the sliced smoked turkey, beans, potato salad and cornbread. Everything was excellent, would recommened this establishment to anyone. On a scale of 1 to 10, a solid 9!

Great food...Unruly Kids Everywhere. My wife and I came in for lunch today and to be perfectly clear the food was great and the server we had was very professional and friendly. A very strong thumbs up. I had the chicken breast sandwich with the apricot-Serrano glaze that was as good as it sounded. My wife loved her brisket sandwich. We shared a peach crisp with ice cream for dessert and it was excellent! However, and maybe we came in on a bad day, but the restaurant was mostly full, and sadly, half of the groups had children. I love kids (I have four of my own), but I didn't care much for any of the ones in the restaurant!! I know there isn't much the restaurant can do about this, but the various groups of screaming, unruly kids really hurt the overall ambience of our meal, and frankly made us want to leave in a hurry. Pardon my short rant here but, Parents, please, if you bring your child out to eat, even to a BBQ restaurant, please don't let them wander around, stand up in the booth and scream, or throw cheese all over the floor. I witnessed all of these things today and not by the same family/group. I guess what I'm really saying is, based on today's experience, Iron Starr is more of a "family restaurant" than an upscale/urban dining experience. We will go back because the food is very good, but my expectations will definitely be "adjusted." Oh yeah, the deviled egg appetizer is very good too!

Good, but not the best. This is a solid BBQ joint. Very clean, friendly staff, and quick service are all reasons to visit. The BBQ is not up to par with what the area has to offer, but that's not to say it's not good. It's just not the best in town. The best item they have on the menu is the stuffed quail appetizer.

Brisket sandwich for lunch was good. I tried Iron Starr the first time yesterday. It's "upscale" as far as BBQ joints go, with a nice hammered copper top bar, plenty of booths and two good sized dining rooms. It was clean, contemporary, but a bit sterile in the feel. I sat at the bar for lunch and the bartender did a great job of describing the fare and pointing out the favorites. I ended up choosing the chopped brisket sandwich with seared green beans on the side. The bartender said they smoke all their own meats from start to finish. The brisket was very moist and tender with a good flavor (and the BBQ was very good too). The seared green beans were outstanding with some sauteed peppers and onions mixed in! The slaw was very ho-hum. The house made dill pickle was fantastic with a bit of a hot kick. It was a good first visit and I'd like to come by and try the ribs some time to really put it to the test.

Typical of this group of restaurants (A Good Egg)...something is just "missing". The beef tenderloin salad I had today sounded amazing, but fell flat. I have no complaints about the beef other than there was only about 2 ounces. It tasted great and was cooked properly. The salad was described as a "creamy blue cheese and spiced pecan" stuffed wedge. It most certainly was stuffed with cream cheese, but actually very little blue (BLEU) and the pecans just sat on top. The bacon vinaigrette had zero flavor. I ate the whole thing and I can't say I detested it, but I don't think I would go running back here.

Eating through the menu. Myself and my associate are so enthralled with Iron Starr that we are eating our way through the menu. It would be easier to say what we dont like rather than what we do. The menu is that good. The only downer so far the beef tenderloin salad. The tenderloin was great however the salad was a head of lettuce with a large chunk of cream cheese in it. EVERYTHING else has been spectacular. Very good food.

Tried "Backdoor BBQ" ...I'll be comin' back to "Iron Starr".... Yep, the "grass ain't always greener on the other side of the fence".
OK Transplant
A nice twist on BBQ. Very good overall BBQ. The meats are good, but don't stand out in OKC. The sides are where Iron Starr sets itself apart. Be advised the portions are not very large, especially for the price.
Morgan
The food was awesome and the service was just as good. The BBQ club is very good. Everything was nice and spicy. Only down side is the ac doesn't work that well when the place is full, but not a detour ant at all.
Erika
Private Event for Family Reunion. I asked this Iron Starr with like 2 days notice if they could do an event for my Family Reunion. The Event Manager was on the ball and it was the best Family Reunion ever!! Everything was delicious and my family really loved it. The chocolate bread pudding was a hit.
Cheryl Trosper
The ribs were very tender. The pimento cheese burger was amazing and the chicken sandwich and prime rib sandwich were pretty good too. However most of the sides we tried were pretty bland. These would be the sweet potatoes & potato salad. The beans were ok, spicy and the mac n cheese wasn't too bad. Service was slow, we were served 45 minutes after we arrived.
Aaron
Great bbq but is a bit pricey for the portion size.

Different, but good BBQ. Iron Starr is a different take on BBQ, but I enjoyed it. We went for lunch one day, and I got the turkey and brisket. Both meats were very good, and the sauce was excellent. If you're looking for traditional BBQ, this isn't the place, but the food is great!
Brooke
Fantastic!. Just had fantastic lunch with my girlfriends. We were very surprised about the size of the entrees: they were HUGE! We took half our food home for dinner tonight. Our waitress, Veronica, was awesome and recommended the perfect desserts for us. We are all waitresses, so we know good service. Try the bread pudding! Overall, lots of food at a reasonable price and great service! We will be back!

Delicious!. We ordered togo for lunch in our office. I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. AMAZING. The apricot serrano glaze is off the charts good. My lips are burning so good! And sweet and delicious. The chicken portion was huge and the gruyere was melted over the whole thing, it was great. Only downfall, the southwestern slaw. NOT good. I am glad I was filled up with the sandwich. The slaw had almost no flavor, no pop. Not refreshing like slaw is supposed to be. In fact, it was mostly carrots and so it tasted mostly like dirty carrot shreds. I took one bite and I was done.
Erin
Good food plagued by bad service. Simple. I love the food, but the service is rude. My party and I felt like a major inconvenience to everyone from the hostess to the server. Maybe that's just their thing. The food is good though - so kudos to the chefs!
Misty Hopkins (Misty Day)
Great bbq. I always forget about iron starr. I used them for my 10 year class reunion and my class and past teachers loved it. It still shocks me that the sides here are full of soul food flavor. I love the ribs, mac n chesse and the collard greens.
Judi Dunning
The BBQ was excellent! Had the sampler appetizer which met our needs with tender, tasty meats! Beautiful atmosphere and quality wait staff.

Iron Starr worked with our large party (9) to set up a reservation and even called to confirm/remind on the day of. Dinner was great with attentive wait staff.
One Smokin' Okie
This place is great!. I love Iron Starr. Consistently great food for years and years. The owner's are the same group that own's Republic, Cheever's and Red Prime. So you know it's good! I've eaten here many, many times and have never had bad food, bad service or a bad experience.
Joy
9 outof 10. This place is clean has a light atmosphere, good food and great for lunch, the mac and cheese is bomb and the pulled pork is aalmost perfect
The Hamburglar
Food and atmosphere was excellent! We had the deviled eggs to start which were very good. My wife and I both had the pick two. Pulled pork, chopped brisket, half chicken, and ribs. The BBQ sauce was a great balance between sweet and spicey! Definitely recommend this to everyone!
Jeff
Just ate there. Got lucky went on a Friday before OU Texas and it was quieter than usual. Great staff, awesome food. Got two sampler plates for $12 each for three people, tons of food well prepared and excellent sampling of the food. All in all a different BBQ than most places in town but it is excellent and the service was very good. When I want good tender meat falling off the bone I go here. The jalapeno cornbread is also excellent.
Jeff Myers
Awesome upscale BBQ.....the quail appetizer is amazing and the bread pudding is killer......I'll be back
Casey
Wonderful!. This is one of the best BBQ places around. It gives bbq an upscale twist. Love the BBQ Bloody mary.
A Budge
AMAZING service. Great interior and unique beer selection. Love the sandwiches!!!!

Delivery is a no go.. If you read this like me, it says delivery, but you must have a 24 hour notice and it must be a bulk order.

Great every time. I've been probably 20 times and it has ALWAYS been very good. Very good service every time. The ribs, corn pudding (it sounds weird but it's great) and macaroni & cheese is great.

The pimento cheese bacon jalapeño burger was delicious. Burger was cooked just right. Atmosphere was nice. Wait staff was attentive. Highly recommended.

Great Service - Good Food - Ok Prices. We went to Iron Starr Friday evening w/friends - The service was outstanding - Our waitress was very friendly and made our overall experience better - The menu / food it's not what you'd expect from a BBQ place but this isn't an ordinary BBQ place - It's more upscale - The overall quality isn't lost on an upscale attitude but I did kind of miss the wax paper as a plate - Our combo plate was delicious and enough food to fill you up but not give that stuffed feeling - The price was a little higher than some places but I expected that and it wasn't crazy expensive. Overall a very nice time and we will probably come back for another visit.

Pricey, but great!. My co-workers and I went to Iron Starr for lunch yesterday (right in the middle of the lunch rush- 12:15p or so) and were all seated very promptly. The atmosphere is comfortable and enjoyable and the service was great. One of our orders arrived with brisket instead of pulled pork, but they promptly gave us a small dish of the pork to correct the error. The ribs and macaroni and cheese are probably the two best items on the menu in my opinion. I was, however, amazed by the Southwest Slaw and the Seared Green Beans. They don't sound all that exciting compared to the okra and mac and cheese, but they are definitely worth trying. I ordered Mama's Deviled Eggs as an appetizer and thought they were just fine. Frankly I prefer my own mama's deviled eggs! Everything else is hot, fresh, and most certainly worth the visit to try.

Great food!. Went here last night as a family! We all loved everything we had. The burgers, the half chicken, and the mac and cheese was the best I ever tried. Def will suggest to friends!
ILoveFood
Awesome. Husband and I went here a few months back for the first time, I adore the sweet potatoes.

The service was amazing, the waiter kept checking on us and asking questions about our tastes when we were ordering, and recommended us some really great foods.

The ribs fell off the bone like they weren't even attached in the first place. I was so amazed at the flavors of the sauces. The beer selection really made Hubby happy, especially since they carry local brews. We will try and make it out again soon. :)
HapiFoodie
Yumm! Love the Dutch Over Sweet Potatoe. This place is good. The house smoked meat has taste without being too burnt.
I highly recommend this place for those looking for a nice dining experience on a gluten-free diet. Iron Starr has a gluten free menu that is Limited but tasty. I had the gluten free slow cooked St. Louis style ribs and the gluten free meat plate with green beans. VERY GOOD! Try the deviled eggs too...surprisingly delicious! It's a hit or miss at time, the last experience wasn't as tasty as my previous visits. Would still go back one more time.
Rena
Salads and Banana Pudding. I live about 2 blocks from iron Starr and always enjoy visiting. Surprisingly I go when I am in the mood for a good salad. I love their Farmer Salad with a side of their dense, moist cornbread. The only thing I am missing is their Banana Pudding. Sometimes I would sneak in just for that when I was in need for comfort food! Are you listening, iron Starr?? Hubby is a carnivore and he enjoyed the ribs on our visit last night. He ate all of his meal along with a little of mine.

Keep up the good work. I like that the wait staff is friendly and efficient and the place is always clean.
Brit2102k
The sides were very good, but the ribs werent all that great. Ive had more flavorful ribs at Swadleys, but i prefer the sides from here at Iron Starr vs. Swadleys. The tea wasnt very sweet but theres a lot of people who prefer sweet and some non sweet so it kind of met in the middle. I wont be back though....just too much price wise for food lacking flavor.
Wine And Food Lover
I do not eat meat so I was a little intimidated when someone first invited me to this restaurant, but I was VERY impressed!! The selection of sides is wonderful! They even have a Vegetarian Plate for someone like me who would only eat sides. The sweet potatoes are to die for!! One of my go to place for good comfort food!

Nice experience. Went to Iron Starr on a reccomendation, our group of four was seated promptly, the restaraunt was quiet with only about 6 tables occupied. Our server had our drink order and appetizer order in about 10 minutes. Were were all happy to see that Oklahoma breweries were well represented, and that our server could explain what were the charecteristics of the brews we ordered. We shared the deviled egg appeitizer and these were enjoyed by all.

Our entree' orders were the ribs, pulled pork and brisket all were served hot and were in perfect proportions.
Fried okra, coleslaw, green beans and collard greens made it to our tables as sides. The group was very satisfied with the meal. Our overall concensus was that the BBQ was average, sides were tasty and seasoned and prepared properly and the sauce was good.

While this is not what I would call a BBQ joint like Leo's the overall experience was above average, and we all agreed we would put Iron Starr on our list of restaraunts in the OKC area that we would return to

Best ribs ever!
XrayFred1989
Love the Ribs. Would recommend the ribs to everyone, they are always tender and falling off the bone. Read a few reviews of people complaining they are not slow cooked for hours on end. Doesn't matter to me as long as they taste delicous! The sides are great also, but unfortunately they are not always consistent. I would recommend the mac n cheese and fried okra
Vanbarker01
Iron Starr. I had the rib dinner and it was excellent, they were a bit skimpy on the BBQ sauce but promtly brought more when requested. The slaw that came with the dinner was not to my liking but I am sure some would have liked it. The atmosphere was pleasent and the wait staff polite. Service prompt and efficient. I would dine there again.

Just had lunch there not your traditional BBQ but its creative and tasty. Its almost as good as my favorite place, Jo's Famous Pizza there i like to get the Sooner pizza with bbq sauce and jalapeños I will go back.
Don
Great service, ok food was great desserts rocked and sides are different but yummy. Ask for CARISSA she is so fun and helpful best ever

Not a shining star. We have eaten at Iron Star numerous times, The last time Dec 23d.
The good egg group is getting egg on their face, The St, Louis ribs were nothing like we had before.
My ribs were moist, no great smoked flavor, but moist. My wife's s were dried out and charred, not smoky at all. Seems the ribs were just put over a flame and charred broiled. The ribs were also "short ribs" not like the long ribs on my plate,
The collared greens appeared to be made the day before and then kept sitting in steam tray The service was fine but food not worth a return by us,
The Paul's cannot run on past reviews and chefs. Iron Starr is on the slides just as Cheevers, sorry to report. Every day is opening day for a restaurant.
If that work ethic becomes stale then in time there is a closing day

Quail Appetizer. WOW! The smoked quail appetizer is worth the trip to ISUBBQ. Really one of my favorite apps anywhere I travel to.

Well first off, BBQ would not be my first pick of food, but I came to iron starr with my cheer team, and it was delicious!!!!!!!!!!! And second, the staff was awesome. My drink was never empty, they always asked how we were doing, and got out food out fast! And so friendly. I had a great first experience at Iron starr!

The food was great, as always. I had the St. Louis ribs were really good. The Fancy Mac and Cheese and BBQ Baked Beans were really good. The service, however was really bad. It's been bad the past two times we ate here. It was so bad, we decided not to order dessert because it would take so long. Not sure if Iron Starr wants to be known for good food/bad service....

-----10 Dec, 2011-----

The food was great, as it always. I had the St. Louis ribs were really good. Iron Starr for Lunch!. That is often the cry around our office. We love it. There is plenty of room to sit (not the best parking), great atmosphere for conversations, the staff are usually patient and helpful. I love some specfic things so much, I tend to stick with them - don't do that! Every time I venture out of my normal selections I am always pleased I did! The salads are unique and flavorful, the chili is awesome, the meat on whatever I have had is good and the mac-n-cheese is yummy!

Couldn't get a reservation!. Called to get a reservation for 15 people and they wouldn't do more than 8. Are you kidding me! We'll take our business elsewhere.

Usually good, must have been an off night. My husband and sister-in-law went to Iron Starr this past Saturday night and were very happy to see that there were several empty tables so we didn't have to wait. The server was really nice and quickly got our drinks. I usually get the BBQ club sandwich but decided to try the Frito Chili Pie. I should have stuck with the sandwich. There were way too many Fritos and not enough chili. They also much have made my dinner first because 80% of the fritos were mushy from absorbing all the chili.
Our waitress never came by to see how the food was and I didn't feel like making a big deal about it so I just left over 1/2 of it on the plate....hopefully they noticed why I didn't eat it.
I've been here 5 or 6 times and have always loved it, this must have just been an off night. I'll go back but will still to the sandwich and stay away from the chili pie.

Sides!. I agree with the other reviewers. BBQ here is pretty dry and unimpressive. The sides are too good. The cornbread, when fresh is too good. I like the bbq turkey salad too. The chili sausage cheeseburger is delicious but it feels like you just ate 2 years off your life. Good beers is a definite draw. and their bread pudding is "tha bomb"

Service. Food was really good. Kind of disappointed that i got only a few fries. Not even a good amount. Also took forever for someone to greet us. Other than that food was rather good.
Jen
Terrific!. Absolutley LOVED the Mac N Cheese!!! So flavorful! Brisket is good too, but the Mac N Cheese is worth going just for that alone!
Mary
Great BBQ. While visiting in OKC, we decided to check out the Iron Starr Urban BBQ restaurant. To our delight, the atmosphere was great; the food was exceptional, and we had a great server (the one with the whispy blond hair style). It was my birthday, so this was certainly a great place to eat and be merry.
Eric
Is it even BBQ?. Just a fancy smancy yuppy place where all people in suits go. I had their BBD pull pork sandwhich, nachos, BBQ sauce was sour and nasty! Mashed potatoes was weird in taste too. Never been back and will NOT recommend to anyone PERIOD! Better off buying ribs, briskets, etc...from Buy 4 Less! Cheaper and taste like real BBQ! Recommend: Earl's, Jack's BBQ, Sam's pre-packaged briskets.

Great food and good atmosphere. The wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I was in Saturday night and my waitress Christina and helped me order a great tap beer. Food was awesome and came out quickly. I will definitely return
