A few hours later: My husband and I both felt awful after eating the chicken (stomachaches and a lot of gas). It COULD be a one time occurrence, but be forewarned. UPDATE: I stayed a while with my laptop to do some work and eventually ordered some G-pie strips with medium spiciness. I loved the Chinese pun on 'ji-pai,' which originally means chicken steak. For those familiar with Asian cafe fare, the strips are basically your 'popcorn chicken.' And it was excellent! Nice and crispy, with good flavor, and the portion size was HEAPING!!! <3 You can't tell from my pic because I ate so many in its deliciousness before I remembered to photograph it, haha. Medium on AVERAGE (the pieces differed in how covered in the powder they were) isn't that spicy but has a good heat to it. I might go one level spicier next time, or use the self-serve counter to sprinkle some more powder over the pieces on top. The order cost $6.81 with tax, and is flavored with Thai basil and garlic strips. It also comes with a little container of sweet sauce you can dip the chicken in, but I personally didn't need it. (4-star chicken, were it not for feeling sick a few hours after.) Original review: I got a large taro milk tea with boba. The tea flavor was okay- decently sweet and strong even at half sugar levels. The restaurant was cute, they were blasting both Asian and Western pop music, and the employees were really loud and friendly. Unfortunately, the presence of some unidentifiable hard bits in my boba milk tea really brought my enjoyment of this little place down. I think it's severely undercooked tapioca from the pearls/boba but I can't be sure. :( The boba was pretty unpleasantly hard-chewy to begin with, but the unmistakably solid crunch of these bits is really unacceptable. There is free Wi-Fi here- the name is just a typical 'ATT#'. I didn't see any outlets around for we who are traveling laptoppers. 1 restroom in the back, which is okay-clean. Parking somewhat hard to find, but that's just the streets of Oakland.

Came here on a warm day and got myself a milk tea drink along with the calamari. The milk tea was refreshing and not too sweet like many other places, but the calamari was a different story. The rings of the calamari were perfectly lovely, well shaped and fried a rich golden color but they shredded easily when bitten into, which was a quality I have tasted before in well packaged frozen calamari rings. Just to clarify, I did not expect them to be fresh, but even as frozen calamari rings are concerned these were a little too processed to taste anything like actual squid. Stick to the drinks I suppose. That was tasty!

Their chicken is good but the taste is really heavy. You'll feel thirsty for sure after eating. I think they marinated the chicken and also add a lot of spices afterwards. Although it's still not prefect like the ones in Taiwan, which are super juicy, it's still a better choices comparing to other Taiwanese style chicken places I have tried in US. Their tea needs improvement though. Somehow I don't taste any tea nor sugar in their milk tea but there is heavy longan taste... Maybe I ordered wrong tea?

The chicken breast is served in a big wrapper. Spicy is just right and it is cooked to order. It's a little bit expensive for street food but worth the splurge. Plus if you go here, you won't feel the need to get the family bucket and overeat! The boba tea is good.

The flavored milk tea I had was very sweet, despite asking for it to only be at 30℅ sweetness. I assume some sort of syrup was used for it because it had a thick residue at the end. The chicken rice plate, however, was very tasty! Will go back for the chicken for sure.

Great fried chicken, Taiwanese style street food a bit Americanized. It is perfectly fried, not greasy, and on rice with salad...simple and filling and yummy. Boba tea is ok. Owner is friendly and gregarious. Nice spot

They have great popcorn chicken (called chicken strips). Their boba is also delicious. Their chicken plate is quite large also. Plenty of food.

Milk tea with boba was great, I'll definitely be back. Next time I want to try the Gpie.
