Solid Korean, with great appetizers. Not as good as I remembered it from years ago

Hidden Gem. Located on the 2nd floor, Seoul Garden has a large sign on the street but little else to direct patrons to their second floor location. Elevators in the building provide direct access to the restaurant as does a quick jaunt up a flight of stairs.

We were promptly seated in the spacious and warm-feeling restaurant. The decor is mostly dark woods which gives an Asian country feeling. We read thru the extensive menu before deciding on Combination Natural Tofu with Beef Short Ribs and Kong-Bi-Ji (Ground Soybean with Pork and Kimchi). The side dishes were excellent - pickled cucumbers, fish cakes, mayonnaise salad, kimchi, bean sprouts and spicy bean sprouts.

The food arrived quickly and piping hot. The Kong-Bi-Ji was so hot that it was bubbling in the bowl!! The dish itself was very interesting - the ground soybean paste flavor dominates the pork and kimchi. However, the dish went quite well over rice and the various side dishes. The Beef Short Ribs were very tasty - slightly sweet with a smoky flavor from the grill. The Combination Natural Tofu with Combination Seafood was very flavorful and filled with various types of seafood.

Overall, very good - when in NYC, I'll try this again.

I love seoul garden. Every time i visit the city i have to get some late night Korean bbq, and this is usually the place i go. time and time again it does not disappoint me. the service is fast but waiters don't talk much (but maybe that's cause they don't speak much english). Can't wait for my next visit.... YUM!!!

Holds Me Over When I Need Korean. We went for a late lunch on a recent Saturday afternoon. Despite the time and rainy weather, there were quite a few tables occupied including several hosting Korean guests. I knew that had to be a good sign when we walked in! I had been a couple of years ago and my experience was not very impressive but this trip was much better for several reasons (mentioned below).

Food: I've eaten Korean food in many different places but all stateside. The first improvement from my earlier visit is the menu. The new one is much easier to understand and even provides pictures for some of the items. I think this would be very helpful to someone learning to appreciate Korean. We ordered the bulgogi dubbab (the staple you need to try at every Korean restaurant) and a Jjigae with seafood (I'm forgetting the exact name but it is a seafood stew).

Bulgogi may be one of my favorite dishes on the planet and it certainly was my mom's. It is slices of marinated beef grilled on a hibachi (think teriyaki but with more of sweet/spicy/smokey flavor). It is usually served with rice and a variety of hibachi-grilled veggies. This version was not served table side on a hibachi which was a disappointment. After it was delivered, I did notice another table did have a hibachi going. Maybe you have to request it served that way? In general, while good, this version was less flavorful than I'm used to. Normally, bulgogi is just so succulently delicious you can't keep stuffing your face with it. I'd order it again but I'd really like the hibachi option which allows you to control how the meal is cooked.

My seafood jjigae was was good but may not be the best choice for everyone's palate. For one thing, it was HUGE with a significant amount of spiciness. I tossed in a few more gobs of spicy chili paste to ratchet it up even more. The seafood consisted primarily of squid pieces with some mussels thrown in as well. Given the chewiness and texture of squid, I wouldn't recommend it right out of the gate. There are plenty of other more "traditional" soups/stews to try without having to risk this one.

The ubiquitous banchan, little side dishes/appetizers, were solid with choices of kimchi (not hot), onions, egg plant etc. If you've never had banchan, dig in! You are welcome to more.

Service: The wait staff was top-notch. There were two servers on and they were both very friendly, helpful and entertaining. Despite being pretty busy, they did an excellent job keep up with things. And boxed our take-homes -- I always appreciate that touch. I distinctly recall being completely underwhelmed by the service during my past visit.

Value: Our meal was about $25 for both dishes and green tea. This probably a bit higher than you'd pay at many Korean restaurants but the portion sizes are on the large side. So, all in all it was fine.

Atmosphere: This is another BIG improvement. They have really spruced the place up and its very nice now. It's clean and modern with comfortable seating areas.

Great food. The food here is great! i LOVE the pork belly for the bbq. the one thing that annoyed me was that all the meat came in such big pieces that they required cutting. it just gets so greasy and too much work for dinner! i also always order kimchi jigae (spl?) when i go to korean restaurants and this one's is average.

will definitely go back for the great bbq meat

Cloudy with NO chance of Meatballs today, just icy cold rain... It's real yucky outside, and one the the best remedies for warming a day like today was the Beef and Seafood SoonTofu from Seoul Garden. So I braved the wind and rain, under

Open 24 hours and always filled with Koreans and others alike, this Korean BBQ is actually better known for its "natural tofu." About half the crowd here will be barbecuing, but I suggest the $9.95 soon tofus, the kimchi being my favorite. Spicy actually
