Last week, we were looking for a French restaurant and ended up at Gentleman Farmer on the Lower East Side. This small 20 seat place is unnoticeable, but, to my surprise, served some delicious food crafted by Chef Karim Nounouh. There, the Chef serves seasonal dishes inspired by French cuisine.

Tiny place even for NYC standards. It felt like a hallway that can about 20 people snuggly. There's a long banquette with chairs on the opposing side then one table for two that's sort of in the aisle. A larger person would likely feel claustrophobic or would have a tough time getting around.

It is an intimate, darkly lit with candle lights though depending on the crowd can be noisy too.

This place excels in the appetizers. Pheasant Pâté toasted brie, truffle oil served when toast ($12). Excellent dish that's flavour in the pate and has the decadent goey Brie on it.

Another hit is the Bison Tartar ($17) béarnaise mousse, capers, quail egg. Fantastic tartar that's tangy and savoury.

The entrees are very reasonably priced relative to those portion size. Though ours were a bit heavy on the salt for both dishes.

Rack of Lamb ($30) chanterelle mushrooms, broccoli tips and mashed potatoes. Four genome sized lamb pieces though a tad tough as it was likely an older lamb.

Smoked Duck Breast ($30) kale, cauliflower, asparagus, gastrique raspberry. Duck was cooked perfectly and paired well with the gastrique.

Our server was an absolute gem. She was great at pairing my meal with a glass of wine and just overall great to chat with.

This LES place is kind of hidden as the signage is not obvious.

Heavenly. One of the best meals I've ever eaten. The blend of flavors thoughtfully crafted in each course make each bit an otherworldly experience. The tuna tartare and stuffed quail were highlights of the meal. The wine list covers both ends of the spectrum and the knowledgeable staff helped guide us to the perfect bottle selection. Hands down a top choice. I would buy out the restaurant for a special occasion.

Really great hole-in-the-wall French spot! The interior is romantic and cozy. Good selection of wine (although I was disappointed that more bottles weren't French). It's amazing how expensive the menu is with one person working front of house and two in the tiny kitchen. Everything we ate was good to delicious. I'd go again!

WOW! Every dish was full of flavor in this intimate restaurant. The restaurant itself only seats about 12-16 people in a narrow space, but if you don’t mind sacrificing some personal space - this is your go to for some great food and a candle lit dinner.

An absolute gem!!! We went there for date night yesterday and had a truly amazing time. The service was absolutely exceptional. The food extremely tasty - probably one of the best value in the city. The setting is super cozy and cute with excellent music. We’ll be coming back!

Came here for an early dinner before a concert. Ordered 3 apps and an entree. The host was very nice, but not very descriptive of wine/alcohol selection. We had an Oregon Pinot noir which in my option wasn’t worth the $$. (Mid $60’s) For apps we had curry snails (so much flavor and different then any other 🐌 I’ve had !) Bison tartare, really on point flavors The beef tongue, which was cooked prefect but needs a Demi/sauce and a crunch aspect And then the rabbit cassoulet, great flavors once again, and a nice amount of 🐰 in it.

The bison tartare and curry snails were absolutely delicious! I wish they had more vegetable dishes/sides on the menu. Really lovely small place, service was excellent.
