Cafe Amrita

There is a short, dark haired, miserable older woman that works behind the counter who should be fired. I've been to Cafe Amrita enough times before writing this review because I wanted to give multiple chances to this establishment. Sadly, I have had my last straw because of the poor customer service of that discourteous woman. On my very first visit, when I walked in I initially stood at the front waiting to be seated. There was no greeting, she was absolutely ill mannered and left me with an unfriendly experience. Each time I have gone to this place after that, the impertinent woman has maintained the same demeanor and energy. During my last visit, I was with my niece who is a toddler. I gave her a small snack to have with her sippy cup of water & the insolent woman approached us and said that outside food and drink was not allowed. I myself already ordered and was eating a sandwich and drink from Cafe Amrita and I didn't want my niece to just sit there staring at me eat. The no outside food or drink rule for a toddler? Really?

I am not one to complain and this is my first review ever but i can’t help but feel so un welcomed in this cafe. The woman serving me wasn’t very nice at all. I said please and thank you as I always do and nothing from her. She was cold and made me feel like I was annoying her. This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced this from her. I’ve been to the cafe a handful of times and she has an attitude every time. They are lucky that they’re the only cafe around and that’s why I tolerated her but I’ve had enough and will never go back!

When I first walked in I greeted one of the servers who did not respond, looked back at me, and kept walking (should've left right then). I decided to stay as I didn't want one person to ruin my experience but all around the customer service was DISGUSTING. Woman behind the register acted as if I was inconveniencing her! The only nice person was the older man who served us or meal. Only reason I am giving two stars is because the food and mimosa was actually really good. Have been looking forward to trying this place and was truly disappointed by the service, will NOT be returning.

This was my first visit here, it's always busy so I assumed it was great! We had waffles and blueberry pancakes with a chai tea and "flat white". The coffee was awful, I had one sip and left it. This is not a place to come for cafe style coffee. The chai was fine because it was just a store bought concentrate mixed with milk, hard to make that bad. The food took about 25 mins and the pancakes were burnt, like black. Unfortunately, we won't be back, there are so many great places to eat or get coffee in the area. The service was average at best.

Trash service - for a place that’s near a major university, the barista took the time to come around the bar and say that no computers were allowed on weekends. If they don’t want business or discriminate against students, they can say so. Coffee was terrible too. Plenty of places in New York to get decent coffee, and this is not one of them.

Upon arrival the French Toast was burnt on both sides receiving a very bad presentation. The bread tasted like watered down cornbread. Very bland. The service was just very disappointing. I had barely touched the toast and asked could It be traded for a waffle (of equal price). The owner told me she would not do it because it was nothing wrong with it. She then gave me a togo box because I “could give it to the homeless” .Overall a very bad experience I would not recommend.
