Uncle Mario's

Linked account (just to explain my name lol) First time ever in NYC and the first thing I wanted to do was try authentic NYC pizza and this place was right around the corner from our hotel so my wife and I just tried it on a whim. OMG the Tony Roni pizza was phenomenal and my wife had the Uncle Mario pizza which was also incredibly good. Huge portion size for a “personal” pizza. I’ve learned from other comments the older Italian waitress is name Carmela and some are saying she’s rude, and honestly I would have agreed with this initially, had I not actually talked to her. Spend just a little time with her and you’ll see it’s simply her personality and she’s actually a very sweet woman and is very engaging, if not a little much at first glance lol. My hopes were very high and this place still blew me away. Nothing like this where I live. Excellent from top to bottom.

We wanted real New York Pizza so we asked a local Italian guy where we should go and he told us emphatically, "UNCLE MARIO'S!"... and we were NOT disappointed. I can't compare it to any other NYC pizza, but if it was in our hometown it would be the best in town by far. The cheese is generous, the crust delicious and the sauce quite fantastic! Garlic bread was very good too.

I thought this place was going to be your typical N.Y. pizza tourist trap, and some ways it is. Don't let that stop you from enjoying it's authentic charm. The pizza here is shockingly good. I ordered the Mac and cheese pizza which I would normally avoid. I've had more than one terrible Mac and cheese pizzas. It was so tasty I couldn't put it down. There is an Italian woman hosting and yelling at people where to sit and what to order. She's that combination of sweet, too honest, and loud that I can't get enough of. Definitely stop in for a bite and beer or a glass of wine. Prices are extremely fair as well.
