This Peruvian place was a shocker. The food was so amazing. Primarily meats and potatoes but ohh some seriously tasty grilled fare. Packed to the hat and snappy service. It was simply an amazing New York experience.

I’m from a small town in Ohio. I have never had Peruvian food before and I’m sorry that I hadn’t. The food was amazing. The drinks were delicious!! Staff was helpful! Probably some of the best food I’ve had all year!
Visited this establishment on our trip to NY. With so many restaurants to choose from, we never had peruvian before so we decided to give it a try. Place entrance was not immediately noticeable and we walked right past it only to turn around and see the sign. Lol. But the inside is spacious, with bar area, seating and downstairs seatings. We had juanitas chicken half which was great and flavorful but they served only the chicken with nothing else.. cebiche mixto (raw seafood with lime and dressings), fresh and sour a tad too sour to our likings but not too bad. And we had lomo saltado which was the bomb. We had their sangria. Overall pleasant dining experience, server was attentive and quick. Recommend!
I really loved the vibe in this restaurant even though we went there for lunch. They have an inventive cocktail menu. I ordered the empanadas; i've had them from a lot of South American countries and this was definitely one of the best. It was stuff with a stewed shredded chicken that had great flavours. And they are large! I shared the roasted chicken with fresh fries with my son. When a picky eater says that the chicken is tasty, you know the food is great. The chicken fell off the bone and was seasoned to perfection. Great portions, great service.. i definitely recommend this restaurant.
Never tried Peruvian food before, but after trying Pio Pio 8 - I will try it again! I got the peruvian rellano appetizer - so good! Got the Tacu Tacu for an appetizer, and again - just really good. Nothing super-fancy, but great flavor and just yummy! Friend got the chicken - a whole chicken in fact - and it looked awesome. Friends that took us go there often and said they always have a great experience & good food. The restaurant looks like a typical small NYC restaurant when you walk in, but then you go downstairs and its HUGE. Great lighting, beautiful decor - was just a really nice dinner and would definitely go back!!!
I love this place.... from the outside its so unassuming but once you enter the design is amazing! Quite crowded but the food is very good. Inexpensive and delicious. This is my go to place when entertaining guests. The set up is quite cramp but it adds to the restaurants great vibe. The staff are patient considering its almost always full. I would go back here again and again. They dont have an elaborate menu but everything in it seems like their specialty

I'd stick with the rotisserie chicken which is super flavorful, the empanadas are also good
Some of the entrees are a little bland to me, but I like a good amount of spice in my dishes which isn't necessarily common in Peruvian cuisine
Awesome place for Peruvian food. Only downside about our experience was that we were seated at a small table by the bar and there just wasn't enough space to put our food so our dining space was a bit crammed. We ordered the ceviche and Matador combo which came with a lot of food for $40 - included a whole chicken, fries and frankfurters, rice and beans, tomato and avocado salad and tostones. The combo can feed probably 4 people and there was just the 2 of us so you can imagine how much food was left over. Chicken was nice and juicy..super delicious. Wish we had known about the lunch special though. For $10 you can get quarter of a chicken and a side with salad. That would have been plenty. Sangria is the bomb..full of wine and fruity flavours. Cebiche was refreshing. Overall delicious food!
Two words: Matador Combo. Pio Pio's Matador Combo provides a sublime meal for two, consisting of a succulent roasted chicken, a refreshing avocado salad, a generous serving of fries and hot dog bites, rice and beans, and tostones....all for just $35. I recommend substituting plantains for the tostones, but every other aspect of the Matador Combo satiates the appetite and soothes the soul.
In addition to the tasty Peruvian dishes, Pio Pio offers dazzling decor and a vibrant atmosphere. The downstairs area in particular bustles with energy. Because of its ambience and culinary excellence, Pio Pio makes for a perfect date night destination. If you do decide to visit this Hell's Kitchen gem during peak hours, though, make sure you make a reservation. The place is always busy on the weekends, so those without a reservation might be in for a long wait before they are seated.
This was my first time eating Peruvian food, and I very much enjoyed it. When I went to Pio Pio the place was crowded to the brim, but it wasn't too loud nor chaotic. All the servers seemed to keep their composure really well even on a busy night which made the whole time very enjoyable. The service was fast too, which was surprising. My friend and I shared a cebiche and the papa a la huancaina, which are cold sliced potatoes in a cheese sauce (AMAZING ON A SUMMER NIGHT). Their cocktails are also really well made. Not to mention the walls on the lower floor are covered in what looks like twigs/tree branches so it felt like I was dining inside a really big tree! But still very romantic, with the lighting and music. The upper floor has the bar and sets a slightly different mood, which is nice if you feel like dancing/socializing after your dinner. Overall it was great and I'd go back again.
We first discovered Pio Pio 8 years ago and coincidentally ended up back here on the exact same day without realizing. If you are looking for a delicious Peruvian restaurant in Manhattan, this is it. The added bonus is the beautiful atmosphere which seems to be an underground setting with beautiful design. The ambiance is sophisticated and the manager working today was very attentive and accommodating. Highly recommend this place.
Food is SO good and fresh. Service is also really good (what a rarity in Ny these days). People are super friendly and they really recommend dishes that are yummy. I will be back!
I have not been back to this Pio Pio in a while, but it still is one of my favorite places to go! We must have been hungry because we got a lot of food....Everything was so good!!! Make sure you try the green sauce...you'll want to put that $hìt on everything (yes that's Franks red hot sauce slogan) lol . Great food, great service and a great place to go with the family. Oh, and I recommend Red Sangria :)
Love this place and I am addicted to their green sauce! Chicken is always so flavorful and juicy! Sides are very large and definitely feeds two people. It's one of my go to places! Also the Tres Leches cake is amazing
Great spot for food. I enjoyed the meals and felt like the service was great. There is a really nice atmosphere in the restaurant and you have the option to sit up in a balcony or down on the ground floor. I believe they were opened later at night for dining in which was a plus as well. I would recommend for a tasty meal to visit Pio Pio!
Great place… I literally went there on my last day in Manhattan. the service offer by Thomas was great and really appreciated it, food delicious first time trying Peruvian food. I want to give extra thanks for Thomas great waiter. Sadly i have a terrible headache and I have to get the rest of the food to go but even though I asked to hold it (the to go bag) because i needed to get some pain killers or something. And came back and I forgot to buy a bottle of water or something 🤣 i had a terrible headache but Thomas went above and beyond with his service that offered me some water just went I was about to leave. So a got overall a great experience I will definitely be back. Thanks Pio Pio for having such a nice people working here the ladies at the front desk also were so nice. Delicious food and great taste… if you meet Thomas you will be definitely get a great service but I’m sure that all the staff would be great as well. Thanks!
I like the place, very spacious, service was excellent, food was delicious and the drinks too. I spent a total of $128 for 2. The atmosphere was ok, noisy. Your competing with the music, people talking and the sound of plates crashing into a bin. didn’t like the bathroom appearance or the high tables by the bar. They weren’t very comfortable to sit in for the kind of meal we were consuming and the “C” grade on the outside window was a little off putting. We took a chance and we were assuming the “C” grade is coming from a few violations which the restaurant is working on fixing. I see the menu changed to include allergy warning and the bathroom is getting fixed as well to meet code. I would definitely go back, hopefully the grade will change in the next months.
Wonderful place to dine. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and amazing food. The staff was not only courteous but super fast. Ordered several dishes and drinks, served in what appeared to be less than 3 minutes, amazing service.
The Ceviche Mexito was good - great quality fish. It was a bit tangy and sour so if that’s not your favourite flavour I would say skip it - and go for the other ceviches on the menu. Overall, I enjoyed the food. The staff was very attentive and checked in on me frequently. Thanks for having me.
