When you come inside you take off your shoes. You're seated at these comfortable low intimate tables. I wanted to try everything on the menu.
The cocktails were good with suju, try the Lychee Mojito (sweet) or Purple Lotus Tea Martini. (Not that strong but tasty).
Highly recommend choosing an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The recommendations I asked for from our server were on par. Everything he recommended was 10/10.

I went with my non-vegetarian mom, and we both enjoyed the food! We got the vegetable fritters, black truffle dumplings , pancake platter and Zen Stone Rice Bowl.
I would highly recommend the pancakes and will absolutely get them again! I liked the stone rice bowl a lot too, and the dumplings were a great dish to share.
In terms of vibes, HanGawi is a cool experience. You take off your shoes when you arrive, and the seats are cushions on the ground, with openings under the tables so you can still sit with your legs hanging. The tables are kind of close together and the waitstaff may have to lean over/around you to serve food though.

The absolute finest meal and dining experience we’ve had in NYC! With traditional seating, attentive staff and amazing food, we binged to the point of overeating! Would highly recommend getting reservations well in advance. And do try their stuff mushrooms, as well as their refresher beverage (non alcoholic).

This place was such a great finding! The food was terrific, and filling; the ambience was unparalleled. Overall, excellent value. Each course in the prix fixe a surprise and a delight. The Japanese decoration created perfect harmony and gave me a very relaxing time.

Would highly recommend coming to Hangawi if you get the chance. The ambiance is very pleasant and the service is great.
We ordered the spicy baby dumplings and the rice cakes, which we would recommend getting. The crispy mushrooms were crispy and savory.
We also ordered the plum tea and the shissandra chinesis tea. We both liked the shissandra chinesis tea more, but both were sweet and delightful.
We ordered the noodles with matsutake, they had a very mild flavor and it was a very large quantity. Because we had lots of flavorful food beforehand, we weren't able to taste it. But if I went back and only ordered 1 thing, I would order it again.
We ordered the spicy kimchi and tofu bowl. It was a nice way to end the meal. I would order it if you like kimchi.

Such a treat every time! My third time going here - my friends and I split the pancakes platter, crispy mushrooms, kimchi bibimbap, and spicy rice cakes. They used to have a black sesame cake that was amazing, but the chocolate cake was very good as well. My friends also enjoyed the teas. $50 for each of us split 3 ways. Truly worth it given how much we enjoyed each dish. My personal favorite was the spicy rice cakes (not spicy which may disappoint some, but very tasty). I’d recommend splitting dishes family style, you won’t regret the trip!

I was planning a trip to NYC and on tiktok someone mentioned this korean restaurant, which was vegan and/vegetarian so decided to check it out.
the ambiance was really nice and the service was good in explaining the dishes. the food was incredible
we started with the sushi platter which provided a variety and each had a unique flavor - my friend said it was some of the best sushi they’ve had ever. we then got a salad which was also good and for the mains we got different bibimbap — both of which were plentiful in size and flavor
overall great food and excellent service

My husband and I ate here for the first time recently. The food was amazing, I especially loved the Korean Pancake Platter and my husband really enjoyed the Kimbap sampler. The service was so great—they really anticipated all of our needs. And the whole restaurant was so cozy and comfortable. I can’t wait to come back and try more!

By far one of the best restaurants i have been so far in nyc. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere- everything was just up to the mark. The place was very clean and had a unique concept of sitting similarly to the japanese style of dining. Everything is vegan in this restaurant. Recommend getting a reservation prior visiting this restaurant. I loved the bibimbap and its red beans ice cream. And would definitely recommend the spicy baby dumplings - though it says spicy but it was quite mild.
