Let me just say the hostess was the best! She was very helpful when I called in with questions. She greeted us warmly and did a great job checking in while we waited on our server. She even followed up after the meal to see how everything went. The food was good. Pictured below is the chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and duck enchiladas. I had the shrimp and grits. They were tasty, but not necessarily the best I had. The biscuit that came with it was amazing! If the wait wasn't so long from being seated to actually getting our food, I would have given 5 stars.
John Bottone
The food was great, especially their soup. I got the chicken and waffles and was satisfied but overly enthusiastic. Good bloody Mary's but its front end was ran by college kids and at times they seemed more enthusiastic about anything but service to the customer.

Fantastic menu with some really great specialty drinks and exceptional service. Chef Mike's gumbo is top notch!

Really amazing meal. It was a quiet Monday night so just a few guests as they have recently reopened post-COVID with new menu. Bartender / waiter was very attentive and made me an AMAZING Brand old fashioned.
The menu is mostly New Orleans local. All made from scratch and it tastes that way. They had an Indian feature (Butter Chicken) which was quite possibly the best Butter Chicken I have ever eaten. The kind of sauce that makes you put your fingers in the bowl to get the last drops.
Crab cakes were perfectly pan fried with a tremendous sauce served with a light touch beneath them.
And salad with really tasty fresh grilled shrimp rounded out our meal.
Chef came out to visit and we discussed Indian food and his background. Looking forward to more Indian features on the menu!
We will be back!

We really enjoyed the
food and atmosphere.Its
wonderful to be able
hear each when chatting.
It was the best veal piccata!and my husband loved gumbo.
They were very kind when my vegetarian kids Mis read the menu and were able to substitute with salads.
All was good...highly recommend.

My wife and I had a later evening meal here. The restaurant was not busy so we were seated right away. The staff was very polite. The food was satisfying but we both agreed that it could have had more flavor/seasoning. We ordered a Mexican style entree. My wife ordered shrimp, and I ordered beef. We would come back and eat if we were in the area again, but nothing really stood out to make us want to go out of our way to eat here again.

5 stars for Kara our Bartender/server for 2 days in a row for breakfast. She went out of her way to take great care of us make a specialty pear mimosa for my best friend on her birthday and was just super kind. The lobster crepe was phenomenal, the geaux grits were really awesome And everyone there was super nice we really enjoyed it. Bloody Mary's arwgreat

I had the Chef's Choice. Great food, great service!
Roger Smith
I have been eating here for quiet some time, this guy is a great chef, nothing here is an afterthought. The service could be zipped up a little tighter especially when busy, it's just part of the place. Everyone is very courteous. We love eating here!
Michael Cundiff
By far my best place I have eaten in New Orleans, lovely wait staff. Steven King said; " life is two short to read a book twice" such is true with New Orleans eateries with so many places to dine, but I shall be here every trip from here on out! Love love this place!!
Lydia Steele
The best brunch in New Orleans! Fresh and delicious foods, fantastic choices on menu, clean, relaxing atmosphere, owner and staff go beyond the call of duty. I highly recommend visiting and coming back!
Mike L (Nfltex)
Had a great breakfast here during our stay in NOLA. Crawfish hash was awesome and we enjoyed the Mexican breakfast as well. Service was as also good. Would return.
Cheri' Ben-Iesau
Food is excellent, service can be slow so don't be in a hurry. I love the steak & kale salad. They are passionate about their food and like to buy local. Watch the receipt- they tack on the tip.
Matthew Payne
This place is magnificent! The service was very friendly and the wait staff had a thorough knowledge of menu when I asked for suggestions. I highly recommend you add this to places for you to frequent, especially on Saturday and Sunday for brunch! Order the chicken and waffles Benedict with bacon š!!!

When I say EVERYTHING on the menu is good, Iām not exaggerating. From lobster crepes to migas to gluten-free waffles to an AMAZING juice bar (have virgin or a shot of whatever). Something for everyone here, consistently great, including the service from their attentive, professional and warm staff. Love my local brunch place xxxxx

My family and I were in town for our son's basketball tournament and happened to find this little bistro and it was Awesome! Our kids enjoyed their food and so did my husband and I. I had the Canal Street Omelette. It's to die for ļæ½ļæ½. I would recommend everyone to visit Canal Street Bistro. Great atmosphere!!!ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½. Thank you to our awesome waiter Catrois! Nice guy!

Absolutely amazing restaurant. My family and I are locals and we came across this place by random for Sunday brunch and decided to go in. Let me tell you, we are SO glad that we did. We had such an amazing experience..I hardly know where to start. The gorgeous, quaint setting in mid city with the large open windows to watch the street cars pass by and great jazz music playing to start off brunch were the first things we noticed. Then, our server was the most inviting, welcoming, enthusiastic person we could've asked for. I believe her name was Cathy and she should get all the credit she deserves. Now, the FOOD! OUT OF THIS WORLD. Oh my goodness, we ordered a bit of a variety and ended up sharing all of our food because it was all SO phenomenal. This place really knows how to create an outstanding, diverse menu and execute their dishes to absolute perfection. And to top it all off, one of the owners (or the owner's daughter, I believe?), came and checked on us and then proceeded to talk to us for a while about the background of the restaurant and our entire experience. That is the kind of personal touch that you just can't put a price on. If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would. This place was so great to us that we made such great memories here that we've already declared it an official tradition for us to return here whenever we all get together again.
Jana Shead
Loved this place and only went from the reviews on yelp!!!! Great chicken and waffles, waitress suggested steak fries, and we ordered extra sausage. A little pricey but sooooo worth it! Def one of my spots now! Staff was friendly and food came out pretty fast.
James Wygant
We just wanted drinks and maybe a snack, and we ended up spending hours! The food was so good, and the drinks so fresh; I cannot over-recommend this bistro!
Becky Prosen
Our server was very knowledgeable about gluten free options. The GF chicken and waffles was outstanding!
Scott Dutch Vanderbrook
One of our ALL-TIME favorite places to eat, especially Sunday brunch!! We stumbled upon this gem 2 years ago and itās now our GO-TO. Exceptional quality ingredients, unique dishes, very friendly staff, amazing overall!!

My favorite place! Love the food, and they have an amazing staff!
Michael Cundiff
Lovely place! Great family history as told by the wonderful waitress! Clean and fresh! Outside seating so one can watch the streetcars go by! Oh by the way I loved this place!!!
Jewel Harden Barrios
Friendly staff. We dined with kiddos and they loved their fresh juices and kids breakfast. The adults enjoyed the eye-opening sangria, chicken & waffles and crabmeat omelete. We split the two entrees and had leftovers. The portions are generous and of course delicious.
Lauren McLennan
De-LICIOUS breakfast and wonderfully friendly staff. Crawfish pupusasāwhaaattt?!?! So amazing. Donāt be dumb. Go here.

I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant! Besides the FANTASTIC food and atmosphere, everyone who works there is wonderful! Theyāre always so kind to us and our two children. Today, they treated my daughter to a pumpkin cupcake!
Leslea Tapia-Parker
Chefs mole sauce was impeccable over the duck enchiladas.
Chip Fornaris
Went with my wife and daughter and I had the Mediterranean Omlette while they chose lunch items. The food was incredible! The coffee bar adds a really nice touch with Liz whipping up the lattes or smoothies! Home run ! Great location as well... The owner, Michael, was very attentive to make sure we were happy with everything.
Lawrence
Their Breakfast menu was extensive and the food is really good. the service was also excellent. I will definitely be back.

Wow! Finally a place that makes a real cuban sandwich, btw, the best i've had in a long time. Black beans were delicious. Pork carnitas were cooked to perfection!
Marykat803
Shrimp & grits. This meal is soooooo delicious I can't
wait to go there and eat it again !!!!!!
Lauren
High quality ingredients and inventive fare one of the few vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurants in the city. The chef's father is German and his mother is Mexican and the menu reflects this union. A seemingly odd combination, but here, it works. German pancakes? Excellent (be sure to top with blueberries). Huevos rancheros to write home about? Yes, please. The juice menu was the best I've seen in a while-try the Runner's blend.
Jlyh
This place is great for breakfast, brunch, or lunch!! They have wonderful gluten free and vegan options, but they have fantastic regular options also!! The Homemade gluten free muffins (carrot and banana but today) are delicious! Not to mention the many in house, fresh juices and coffee drinks! Great food, nice New Orleans atmosphere!!!! Also, their staff is very knowledgable and friendly!!
Roxylouvier
Atmosphere good. Food not so great. Portions very small and not worth the $$. $27.00 too much for 2 panini and 7 fries and less than 1/2 cup potatoes salad with water! Not tasty either! Won't return!

Would not recommend.. I visited Canal Street Bistro for lunch today. The service was friendly but very slow, and the server had no problem taking a full plate of food from me without asking whether anything was wrong with it. I ordered the chile con carne and received carne without chile that was so dry, tough, and flavorless that it was inedible. The beef came with corn tortillas, rice, and beans - the beans had cheese on them (which the menu doesn't state - I can't eat cheese), so I ended up eating the tortillas and the rice, leaving the meat and the beans. I would've sent it back if it hadn't taken so long for it to come out (it took the server forever to take our order). A co-diner remarked that their chicken mole was not very good, though the Cuban sandwich and curry chicken sandwich received good reviews. I would not recommend this restaurant.
MFL
Love the juices, food is well prepared, service is attentive. Have tried omelette and also the huevos rancheros. Both were good. Servers meed to work on communicating special requests to kitchen better, two occasions had to get meals recooked for having something that was asked to not be included. But otherwise, their breakfasts are trusted, tried and true.

Insulting to New Orleans. My friend wanted to eat here and I agreed to give it another chance. We waited twenty minuted before being greeted at the door, took an hour for our food to come out, the food was cold, portions were smaller than before, overpriced, server couldn't have cared less that we were unhappy, and we waited over twenty minutes for our check. This place is a joke and most likely will close soon. Ruby Slipper is still great.
Dan ā¢ The Ardent Chef
Great Cuban sandwich!!!! Try it!

Not worth your time.. I have visited canal street bistro three times over the last few months. The menu is unique, and the food is good, but nothing else is. This morning I spent over an hour there for chicken and waffles with white gravy. It took over forty minutes for my food to arrive. It was good, but there was no reason for it to take that long for this dish. The chicken was boneless and cut in small pieces, this should have been quick to cook. The server was just plain bad at his job, he should consider another career choice. I had to ask for a refill twice, and after I finished my meal I waited over 10 minutes for a check that he never brought. I went to the bar to pay so I could leave and was told that the computer system was messing up. I found a menu added up the cost of the food I ordered and gave the waiter cash. Truly he didn't deserve a tip, but I really felt sorry for him. A waiter should be able to do his job without the help of a machine, it's a great tool but do basic math! If there is a problem, don't try and hide it because of your embarrassment inform your guest quickly and work through it. It was clear that the management has not taught this staff how to work in a restaurant! There are too many other good restaurants in New Orleans. This one doesn't deserve your time or business. It should close.

Consistent. The food is consistently decent and the service is consistently terrible. We have been here 3 times. All 3 times we enjoyed the food when; it finally came. On each of our 3 visits we've had a different server, each worse than the last. This most recent shining star was by far the worst. It was as if she was aggravated that we even showed up. The food was late, wrong, pretty much thrown at us, and then after we had finally received our food she vanished like a thief in the night. Not only was her lack of professionalism/competence getting on my nerves, it was affecting the other employees. They were becoming increasingly rude and unprofessional due to the lack of performance by their coworker. I was having to ask the other servers, who were obviously busy doing their own job, for refills, table settings, the right food, and finally our check. Our server was either hanging out behind the bar or no where to be seen. It was immediately apparent from the attitude of the other servers that this was something they had been dealing with for a while. We will not be back. Who ever hires and "trains", or more accurately does not train their wait staff should be banished to Denny's or IHOP.
Bill
Great meal. Had dinner for six tonight at Canal Street Bistro; food was excellent, some of the best I've had recently in New Orleans. The service matched the food. Highly recommend.
Amber Griffith
The food was ok, but not worth the wait. The service left a lot to be desired. The best thing this restaurant offers is fresh juices, and unique juice cocktails. However, considering The Ruby Slipper, and Blue Dot Doughnuts are within a few blocks, I don't think I will be back
Ashley Rougeou
Incredible find! Gorgeous place with even better food. We enjoyed the Bloody Good juice (fresh beet, apple, carrot and orange) before the delicious Migas and Mediterranean omelet. Excellent service. Can't wait to come back!
Katie
A singular experience. Canal Street Bistro provided myself and my three friends an experience we'll remember for years to come. We sat at the bar, and let Sam the Bartender fix us signature drinks as yet unnamed (thank you, Sam, for the Mariposa Cristal), while he regaled us with snarky stories of his wayward youth. And what a treat to meet Guillermo, the chef, at the end of the night. His personal interest in our experience gave the whole evening a personal flavor. But the most wonderful thing was the food... And the food plus the drinks. We highly recommend the chipotle steak, the diver scallops, the wilted spinach, the ceviche... The butternut tres leches dessert... And, well, pretty much everything.
Williamevans2002
Are you kidding?. We had read a review that turned out to be misleading. We thought we were going to a restaurant with some new and different food. German/ Mexican influenced. It was just a vegan/vegetarian place with the typical attitude but uninspired food. And they had the nerve to charge $9 for house wine!
Heather
Utter mediocrity. The food is either overly flavored (the asian slaw is so peanut-butter heavy that is the only thing you can taste) or not flavored at all (the black beans that come with the quesadilla are straight-from-the-can bland). Service was slow and confused. Prices are high for the quality and was overcharged on top of the inflated prices. Will not be going back.

Different place. I have not eaten at Canal Street Bistro, but some my be confused by older reviews, which are for Eco Cafe that used to be at this address, sometime in late 2011 or early 2012 Eco Cafe closed, and Canal Steet Bistro took over the place. Different owners and chef, so I'm not sure how, but it seems old reviews for Eco Cafe have been combined with those for the new Canal Steet Bistro, Which dosnt seem fair to the new owners.
Stephanie Darden
Charming and delicious. I have eaten there twice so far and love it. The staff is friendly and extremely attentive. The food is fresh, tasty and absolutely delicious. I also really love their fresh juices and the variety available on the menu. The Chicken and waffle sandwich blew my mind but the curry chicken salad sandwich was equally amazing.

Wow! Wow! Wow!. The last time my taste buds jumped up and down and said thank you daddy was a few years ago at Amah on NYC's mid-eastside--a new Indian restaurant at the time which dazzled not so much with heat as with firing new synapses. This bistro did it again for me tonight: I'm not in the least bit jaded about dining out but it's rare that everyone at the table says "Wow!" and, again, it's not the heat but the freshness and masterful combination of powerful and subtle flavors, and top end ingredients, which made for an adventure in dining. This is a wonderful and welcome contrast to our beloved dining museums. The menu tilts to south of the border with gulf fish (red snapper tonight) prepared 4 ways from fiery to cream saucy. Oddly, the jaeger schnitzel would do any German restaurant proud. They don't call it world cuisine for nothing, but that sounds scattershot and this cooking is anything but that. It is masterful cooking, and the service was very nearly as accomplished.

Very good! The Quesadilla Diablo was excellent, and the accompanying pico de gallo was some of the tastiest that I've ever had. The service and atmosphere were very good. A welcome addition for breakfast in Mid-City!
Nolajoe57
It's a great place. The curried chicken sandwich on a croissant is addictive. Service was quick and friendly. They have a new chef who's changing the menu. I had scallops with a cream sauce. The scallops were fresh, large and the best I've ever had.

We love it. I have been to this bistro sporadically over the last year and I love it more and more. The breakfast is unique and delicious. I have also attended 2 of the dinners with friends and we loved the atmosphere as well as the cuisine.
Ecocafe Hater
This place can't last long !!!!!. I can't believe this establishment will last long. I so wanted to like this place being that it is just 2 block from my work, but what a horrible experience! We sat down and knew what we wanted to get but unfortunately we had to wait over 15 minutes just to place the order. We ordered a crabmeat and brie panini and the carribean panini. After about 10 minutes, the waitress came to the table and said the food would be right out. At 20 minutes, the same waitress came by and said the kitchen was backed-up, but it would be right out. At 25 minutes, the weird manager came by and explained to use that paninis take longer??? but he assured us that they would be right out. After waiting 45 minutes, we were finally able to get our food. The food was pretty bad, the crab didn't smell right and there was no brie to speak of, and it was room temperature. The carribean panini was mediocre and fairly tasteless. I swear I will never eat there again, and I urge everyone to boycott this restaurant!!!

Loved it!. Fresh veggie/fruit juices are wonderful. also had an omelet with mushrooms, swiss, tomatoes and chorizo and it was excellent. Great service, our waitress was so nice and helpful. Will definitely go back soon!
Lisa
This place has, bar none, the best fruit cup in town. Overflowing with beautiful fruit, cut fresh to order every time. And the rest of the menu is great, too. Highly recommemded.

Menu has been updated since last month. Second visit for us for breakfast. They've done some minor remodeling, updated the menu, and seem to have more staff since we were here a month ago. I really would like to try their fresh juices, but getting my dose of coffee is more important. They had cafe con leche on the menu last time, but that's no longer available. Latte was great though. Huevos Mexicanos was very good, but the bacon we had ordered was bad. Service was pleasant and quick. Overall, not our top pick for breakfast in the city, but will likely go back.
Loux
Green choices. Bright, homely and friendly service. Quarterly clock tones invoked nostalgia. The frothy soy chai latte was just the right start. Though the side of potato was good, the price should be lowered. Liked the homemade not-overly-sweet raspberry and blueberry preserve on the buttery croissant, with the blueberry coming out top. Generally, I prefer less salt but the breakfast quesadilla was seasoning-challenged. Chorizo suffered the same fate. The beans were the saving grace.

Returnability rating : 3 boomerangs

Beh. I really want to like this place... I like what they're about... but... first time is not a success. I did not have an entree but I did have a small take out experience so here goes:
First of all, their online menu says "vegetarian" next to the caesar salad, but when I called and said I wanted the vegetarian caesar, I was told it's not vegetarian (but at least they TOLD me!)... when I said that it says "vegetarian" next to it on the online menu, she acted as though I must be mistaken. But... I was looking right at it....
Anyway, moving on to soups then I asked about the red pepper soup... the menu says it's creamy, and she said it's creamy... and extremely oh-so good. So I went with a cup of that and a side of potato salad.
The soup is terrible. It takes like burnt, pureed peppers... and there is nothing "creamy" about it. Nothing. It's vegetable and oil. There is a little sprinkle of feta on top but you wouldn't know it once you mix it in... nothing can shine out of that burnt pepper taste.
The potato salad is just fine, you won't be grossed out and you won't be blown away. It's just fine.
The servers were very nice. The decor is trying to appeal to young people who want to be hip.
Eventually I'll go back and try an entree/sandwich... I really like that they use recyclable and recycled materials and want to support them if I can find something there worth it...

Great place, went for breakfast had huevos rancheros, and the spanish breakfast. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and the food was cooked perfectly, going to go back in the near future!

AWESOME BRUNCH. My family and I went to Eco Cafe this past Sunday and had a wonderful experience. I have lived in the New Orleans area for about 10 years now and love new places that are trying new concepts in New Orleans. From the looks of things they were really busy. I could tell from the fresh flowers on the table to the fresh coffee being grind that this was going to be a truly unique and different dining option in New Orleans.

My family and I were seated in about 10 minutes. Our server was a young man that said he was new to the area but loved working at Eco Cafe. We were impress that they freshly squeeze all their juices per order!!! We were also told that it may take a few minutes for a freshly squeeze juices to come out. Though it did take a few minutes for the juices to come out, I was much impressed with my strawberry lemonade mimosa served over ice. Champagne will NEVER be the same for me again -- AMAZING!!! My husband ordered a drink called the Ginger Hop or Popper and it was truly the most refreshing mixture of fruits and vegetables.

By the time our food came out - I had Huevos Rancheos my husband the Eco breakfast - we were in food heaven!! Everything tasted so fresh, so unique, so different from anything else in the city and truly well worth the price.

Though the place seem a little busy and a little chaotic at times, I truly believe Eco Cafe is well on their way an making their mark on New Orleans dining scene.

We will be back again and thank you to all the wonderful staff!!

This place is phenomenal.... I ate there twice in one day first for lunch... Th crab and brie panini is delicious... Then me and my friends went back that night for their tapas and wine.... We tried many of the different tapas and loved every one of them. The staff was great very nice... Quite frankly it was the only meals I had in my entire week in new Orleans that I felt was worth every penny of the price! I wish there was one closer to me

Disaster! Stay Away! The first time I went, it was amazing BUT the service/management is subpar. I've eaten there 5 times and each time something went wrong. The food always takes 20-30 minutes, ive complained about being overcharged 3 times, and I once waited for a menu for 20 minutes. They've gotta do better.
Bob Amoss
Our second visit. First one was a disaster. Saturday brunch was GREAT ! What a difference. I had the Spanish breakfast that included a cup of great blackbeans. My wife had a made to order omelet. Fast and friendly service. We're coming back!
Wispa
I have been to Eco Cafe twice. The second time I walked out because I was there almost twenty minutes waiting for a server. The service was terrible on the first visit as well. The first visit the food was not overly impressive and pricey for what you got on the plate. If the service does not get better the place will never make it in mid city. Thankfully they are not the only breakfast place around.
Holly Johnston
I love this place!! I stop in regurarly for the best iced mocha, and white mocha, i've ever had!! The place is still real new and is working through the kinks. But the owner is a sweetheart!! So if you stop in make sure you have the time to take in the beautiful renovation and a tasty meal!!
Mike
This place sucks. Don't waste your money on this overpriced and underflavored food. There is nothing "green" about the place and it is run by a bunch of morons.

-----30 Jul, 2010-----

Awful. This place is a joke. I waited over 15 minutes for anyone to speak to me, then i watched the lady(who I later found out was the owner) chat with a friend while she ignored making our drinks and ignored some other new customers. When she finally came she was rather rude and when I inquired as to what made the cafe "eco-friendly" she was unable to give me a straight answer. Then the $13 sandwich arrived and it was dry and very small accompanied by some potatoes that looked like they had been scraped off the floor. We then had to wait 10 minutes for the check and another 10 for our change. I will never set foot in here again. Don't waste your time.
StephRanieR
Tasty breakfast, convenient location. I wish that there was a little more information about what eco-friendly practices are used by the restaurant, because i'd find it interesting. breakfast was good- breakfast sandwiches and coffee, nothing too elaborate, but the jalapeno bagel i had was a great sandwich for the egg and cheese. looking forward to going back, as it's very near to carrollton and canal, so either street car line can access it.
Miranda Williams
The WORST Restraunt I've ever been to. After going to find menus, it took 15+minutes for someone to take our order. Then it took another 10 minutes to get a glass of water and iced mocha and place our food order. After placing the food order no one ever stopped back by to check on us for anything. We ordered a crossant and breakfast platter, so it wasn't a difficult order. We even heard the waitress tell another table they were out of crossants, but we never heard anything. So after waiting for about an hour with no food and no more drink, we left $ on the table and left. This was the worst dining experience ever!!!

Overall my visit to the Canal Street Bistro was a pleasant one. The ambiance is nice and the service was very friendly, although a little slow at times. If youāve not tried this place, nowās the time.
