I wanted to find a really special place for my last evening meal in the city. And I already knew that I wanted tapas. I randomly asked a few friends for their advice and they resoundingly mentioned Baru. And just as the last reply was texted to me, I drove by it on Magazine! Serendipity! I knew at first glance of the menu that Ostras Fritas and the Mango/Avocado Ensalada would pair nicely and I finished the meal with the most delightful Passion Fruit Creme Brulee! I was solo dining and my outside seating at sunset was my preferred setting. My server was so attentive and made me feel very comfortable in spite of my table for one. It was a very memorable meal. I enjoyed 3 of my leftover oysters for breakfast on Sunday. I'll be back and would highly recommend! Thanks, Baru Bistro.

Amazing! Every single plate we ordered was so good. I lived in Peru for a few years and always get excited to see any type of Maracuyá cocktail on the menu and Baru perfected it!!!! Will be back and will bring friends and visitors too!

Great location on Magazine Street. Get the guacabello appetizer. You won’t be sorry. Tartare is also great. Wait staff is pleasant and knowledgeable

Really enjoyed sharing some tapas here with friends, the food was so delicious!!!! Drinks were tasty too, happy hour dining and a $75 bill for four people, sharing food and having a drink.

I can't wait until this time of the year. Warm weather outside is the perfect time to enjoy that signature Guacabello. I also love the fact that its BYOB and it has such an intimate setting either sitting inside or watching the cars pass outdoors. Definitely in my top 5 eateries in the city!!!!

After the last few years wanting to try this place but never being able to at the right time, my husband and I landed here last Saturday night after driving around aimlessly looking for a restaurant that wasn't packed out the door on a Saturday night. I remembered this place and since it's a little farther down from the busier restaurant/bar section of Magazine, it's a little quieter and in a neighborhood section of Magazine.

The restaurant was almost full when we arrived around 9 pm but they could accommodate us. All I can say is....wow. From the atmosphere to the people to the food...this restaurant is authentic and top notch.

In a city known for its excellent food, this place stands out. You can see and taste the care that is put into the recipes. Absolutely delicious....and that's an understatement. Authentic....fresh...recipes you won't find anywhere else in this city. The chef's dedication and care taken in creating outstanding dishes and the quality of ingredients shows. The people who work at and run the restaurant are friendly and make you feel like family. Our waitress Valerie recommended the perfect wine, explained the dishes and answered all of our questions. By the time we left we felt like we had known her for years.

There was no one dish that we liked better than the other....everything was off the charts. We eat out often and are very picky about our food. Baru not only met but surpassed all of our expectations. The quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, and the cozy atmosphere make Baru over and above the norm. They definitely have two new regulars.

What is referred as "Mexican" food in this part of the country can only be modified and recreated in so many ways when you are limited to a relatively short list of essential ingredients. I was craving something other than the standard taco-related cuisine which seems to be such commonplace these days. Fortunately, the Big Easy offers a number on non-Mexican establishments which serve lesser-known Central American and South American food. This was my first experience with Columbian food, and I can safely say that I am hooked! Oh where have you been all my life, dear arepas?

Maïs Arepas might get all of the love from New Orleans Columbian cuisine enthusiasts, but this place can't be far behind, if at all. Plus, THEY ARE ACTUALLY OPEN ON A HOLIDAY WEEKEND. Yes, I'm looking at you Maïs Arepas and your extended closures for each and every holiday. But I digress.

The restaurant is a little cramped, but usually it's a good sign when each table is full when you walk into a restaurant. Our party of six was directed to a large, private table in the back room with half of the seating comprised of a long, padded bench equipped with pillows for back support. It was also slightly dim and therefore a little romantic.

The service was a bit inconsistent but I will forgive them because we were in the midst of the lunch rush and we did have six people at our table. My girlfriend and I each ordered a glass of sangria, one white and one red (I admittedly was unaware of the existence of white sangria). Each glass was adorned with an assortment of fresh fruits floating in the wine-based beverage. The white sangria was a little dry for my taste, but my girlfriend very much enjoyed it. Meanwhile, the red sangria was delicious, but doesn't quite measure up to the best in the city. There was also a bit too much ice in the glass, but the amount of fruit present was again a pleasant surprise.

We ordered an assortment of dishes including the quinoa ensalada, a desmechada and a pepeada arepa, the jerk chicken burrito, and the pepito sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their food immensely. Regardless if it was pork, chicken, or beef, all of the meat was tender and flavorful. The maize flatbread for the arepas was delicious and the braised flank steak in the desmechada was particularly noteworthy. I can't recall the name of one of the tapas, but be sure to order the one with skirt steak. Everyone was both full and satisfied by the meal's end.

My one complaint was that the arepas were much smaller than I assumed based on pictures I had seen at other restaurants. However, the price wasn't outrageous and the quality made up for the lack of quantity.

This would be a perfect lunch option if you are in the area. I will definitely be returning for dinner in the near future.

Ate from the tapas menu. Absolutely delicious. The arepas were like tiny sliders. Quinoa salad was tangy and bright. Portions were generous for tapas. Mojito was crowded.

Cute place. The beef skirt skewers were really good. Lovely atmosphere, we sat outside on the patio. Service does not meet expectation for the price but the flavored make up for it. The ava ado and mushrooms were amazing. Cuarto Leches dessert was also very light and delicious. I would go back if I was nearby but not driving that far again.

First time eating at Baru. We had the Atun A La Plancha (a rare sliced tuna dish), Jerk Chicken, and Shrimp & Mango Salad. All were delicious, and were recommended. A great variety of tastes that were much enjoyed. It's no wonder that their chef has the "Best Chef" awards that he has achieved. A bit pricey, and the service was a little slow, but this was a birthday celebration for us so we had a good time and I expect that we will be back.

This was a pleasant surprise. The food was top-notch. Flavorful and great presentation. Our server, who was also our bartender hands down, made the best drinks. 👍🏾👍🏾 I do mean the best. Well balanced, and the presentation was on point. Great service for this gem.

Absolutely incredible meal here. We tried a good number of dishes and each one was better than the one before. The mushroom and avocado small plate was a surprise hit, I think my favorite must be the steak skewers also on the small plates menu. The sauce for the shrimp dish was so good i was dipping other things in it 😂. 10/10 have already recommended to others and will be back!

Went there for the first time with my friend and we were blown away by the atmosphere and ambience. The food was amazing and even had some left overs. Jerk chicken was great. Great drink selection. Friendly and prompt service.

A very unassuming but excellent place off the tourists beaten path. Place is a bit tight inside but very accommodating and friendly staff make sure you are comfortable. Food is quite excellent with the ceviche, octopus and skewered meats being particular standouts! Patatas bravas are a bit unusual compared to what one might expect, but still good. The flan is a standout among desserts mainly because they take the caramel to just the pre burnt stage adding complexity to the dish. Cocktails are pretty ehn and lack a punch but the wine list while small is quite good.

One of the best overall food experiences I have had ever - delicious food - from the corn fried oysters to the skirt steak skewers to the Brussels sprouts and the lamb sliders - wow! For desert, rum soaked plantains with vanilla ice cream. Just fantastic! You owe it to yourself to give this spot a try on Magazine St. - it does not disappoint!!!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans! I’ve tried more than half of the menu and have never been disappointed. I love the environment of the restaurant. They have indoor and outdoor seating, upstairs and downstairs and I’d say it’s nice and cozy. The cocktails are great, but I keep coming back for the food, specifically the churrasco. It’s PHENOMENAL and my favorite steak in the city. I think the chimichurri and aji sauce are what makes it! The only thing I’d say is to not plan to eat there in a hurry because the service is a little on the slower side, but I like it. Highly recommend eating here!!

I am Puerto Rican and Nicaragua. Originally from long Island NY. I have been a missionary in Colombia. This restaurant made me feel like I was in two places at once. Carolina served us well and very sweet and kind. I loved spending my bday dinner here. Food was delicious. Ambiance was beautiful!
