Tokyo Japanese Steak House

Pros: Our server Victoria was absolutely amazing. The chef was quick, funny and cooked our food exactly how we wanted. The food was delicious Cons: The hostess (owner perhaps), was very rushed and quite obnoxious. Details: This restaurant is right in front of our hotel which was very convenient for us so we walked here for our dinner tonight. There was no one at the hostess station when we arrived. After waiting for about 5 minutes, my husband went to the bar and flagged down a server. He pointed us to the bartender, who was the hostess and perhaps also the owner. We waited for another 5 minutes after that. She came rushing to the hostess stand, didn’t even bother greeting us. Muttered something and took a party to their table. Then she came back for us and sat us in a table where the people seated there, were already finishing up their soup and salad course. We wanted to order drinks and appetizers, and didn’t want to be rushed so we asked the hostess if she could sit us in a new table as we wanted to enjoy our evening. She informed us that they didn’t have enough chefs and if we wanted to wait it would be over 30 minutes. She brought the sushi chef out to repeat what she said. He told us we could sit in the dining room and they will bring hibachi food out to us. We said we wanted our toddler to enjoy the hibachi ambience so we let go of the drinks and appetizers and just sat in our original seats. Not even 5 minutes later they brought a new group to the table next to us!!! Oh well. If it was just based on the owners, this review would have received 1 star but our server, Victoria and the hibachi chef turned our experience around hence the 4 stars. Victoria was such a calming presence to this restaurant compared to the harried and obnoxious hostess. She was so kind and caring and took such good care of us. She told me she was also a brand new mom like me to her four month old. She looked fabulous by the way. She took our orders and brought our soups and salads. While we were working on our soups and salads, the chef came. I wish I had gotten the chef’s name but unfortunately I didn’t. He was funny, and very entertaining. My toddler really enjoyed watching him. I had requested my salmon be cooked rare, and he cooked it absolutely perfect, just the way I wanted it. Very often in hibachi restaurants, the shrimp is overcooked, not this time with this wonderful chef cooking it. It was cooked to perfection. The vegetables were crunchy and tasty and the fried rice was delicious. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would really like to commend Victoria and the Hibachi Chef for taking such good care of us.

Had a rough week and needed some sushi but didn't want to go far. Ended up at Tokyo and honestly wasnt expecting much. Well, best date I've had in a long time. There was someone on the piano, service was very friendly and attentive as soon as we walked in AND the sushi was on point. I had gone to another establishment the week before and dropped 120 dollars on the worst sushi I've ever had and literally threw the to go box in the trash on the way out. Tokyo was a pleasant surprise and I can't wait to make this my regular Friday night spot. Try the sushi!
