Absolutely had the best time trying and sharing lots of new foods with my family at the restaurant. We all left full and excited about coming back. Great service from all the staff.
Absolutely amazing. Beautiful and funky interior. And the food is truly unique and eclectic for the area. The fried chicken in particular is fantastic. Not your normal Deep South, deep fried bird but juicy and full of flavor. Will definitely be back again.
We were in Japan not long ago for a few weeks and missing the izakaya scene upon return to Nashville. Bar Otaku is not like a true Japanese izakaya with drunk salarymen and smoke everywhere, but it still has a wonderful atmosphere and own charm. Note: The website does advise Bar Otaku is an American izakaya.
The food was great! We ate so many different menu items (see pics); however, the mixed drinks were only okay (I tried the chuhai and yuzuhai). The service here was good. Food was brought out promptly. I really reccomended the matcha icecream! The lotus root chips clear up the sinuses and are perfect to accompany a beer!
We ended up staying over an hour. Ordering drinks. Getting more foods to accompany the drinks. The atmosphere is hip and the lighting is on the dark side. We felt at home. Anime murals. Good music playing. You can even follow their spotify playlist month-to-month.
We will definitely be back here again soon.
Came for dinner with a friend and had a great experience. Very friendly service. I had a nice hot sake with our meal. The food came out fairly quickly. My favorites were the green beans, wagyu beef yakitori, and blue crab hand roll. The salmon tataki was also nice. Come with a group of friends so you can try lots of their small plates. Pro tip: Happy hour deals on Tues & Wed from 5-7pm.
Five stars for the ambience, food, and service. Perfect date night spot. We got the edamame to split, each of us got an onigiri, salmon for me and tuna for her. She got the gyoza dumpling dish, and I had the pork dish. The food was excellent. We were full and satisfied, any more food and we probably wouldn’t have eaten it all. Love this place. Will definitely go back.
Let me preface this by saying I gave it an extra star because there so little competition for this in Nashville and I'm thankful they create a really cool atmosphere with some good Japanese style food! And I'll reiterate that the food is dope, no easy points there, they're doing it well. Sadly the drinks are not even close with the others you'd get in town at a similar price point. Considering this is the "Bar" variant of the concept, the drinks were pretty disappointing and why I'd take it down a star.
Mannnn Bar Otaku really checks all the boxes for me. Amazing menu, amazing atmosphere, amazing service! I lived in Japan for a while growing up, and the food here takes me right back to eating sticky onigiri rice balls as a seven year old (except now I’m having cocktails with traditional Japanese spirits instead of juice). This is one of those places that makes me so glad I live in Nashville-- we have such a great food scene! Definitely splurge on the chef’s tasting menu! (My pictures don’t do it justice.)
Excellent Japanese bar food. Well worth what you pay for it. Only place in the US I’ve found with hitachino nest beer on draft too which is excellent. Highly recommend the pork gyoza and hamachi sashimi. For being in a landlocked city, the sashimi was great. Definitely a fun, worth visiting place!
Bar Otaku has a wide selection on their menu! I never thought a canned jelly shot would be so goood! If you like peach give this a try from their drink menu. Their staff are also super friendly and happy to answer questions.

I went there with a friend for her b'day, it was lit fam. I had taco rice and some soprano beer. The soprano beer was better than I expected, taco rice is exactly what you expect.
If you're looking for a good bar to hang out with your nerdy friends, this is it. They were playing anime on the TV, had some cool paintings, and nice scene.
I wish I could have brought my corgi inside. If the owner is reading this comment, how much do you want for the spike painting?
This place was so much fun. It was late night, so only a portion of their menu is available. So much more interesting than pizza or burgers as a late night option! The cucumbers are really fresh.
